camping out at walmart

Yep they are fighting for a spot for camping out until noon tomrow when the playstation 3 comes to the store the ones at the front of the line said have been there for 2 days now it costs about $600.00 that would give my kids a nice christmas this year with things they could use. I dont know why they are not making them camp outside of store but in the middle of it with lawn chairs ice coolers and all what crazy people.

I heard about that on the news.

$600 would buy a lot of karate lessons, a kid's dirtbike, a shetland pony (in some areas)...kids could have a lot of *real* action in their lives instead of simulated action with that kind of money.

They asked some of the people in line locally & about 3/4 of them said that was exactly what they were going to do.

Give my kids the good old fashioned toys. Tinker Toys, Legos, Lincoln Logs, Jacks, Marbles, Dominos. They love that stuff. We had a Play Station once. Finally got rid of it. They play a few games on the computer once in awhile, but not usually.

Do ya think it's just a marketing strategy to make "only" 1 million? I saw on the news this morning the chaos and fighting over these games. Seems like every year this happens with a hot item...no thank you.

It's pretty amazing what people my age and younger can get passionate about! Now I admit that growing up, I spent A LOT of time playing video games, something I do not plan to allow if God blesses me with children. However, to spend that much time and money on something that will likely lose its appeal for most buyers within a short amount of time is just irrational. I think a lot of it has less to do with the actual PS3, and more to do with being one of the ones that got one (like the Xbox 360, the original Tickle-Me-Elmos, and various other products that were introduced with a lot of hype and an induced shortgage). Me, I'd rather have a small, cheap gift that a person put a lot of thought into rather than something expensive that's the latest craze.

I'm in agreement with you all. I can only wish we as kids hadn't been raised with TV in our home. It really does waste a child's natural imagination. There isn't anything wrong with going outside to play, or creating your own fun, without the idiot box blaring in your face. I'm ready to chuck the TV myslef. I"m so disgusted with our culture. I tend to stick with the "artsy fartsy" stuff anymore. Need more time in our natural environment. Maybe I'll be like Thorough(sp?). LOL!!!

My eleventh grade son tells me that an aquaintance of his has missed two days of school so far. He is being paid #7.50/hr, 24 hours a day to wait in line, by some nut that wants one of these things. Sad.

So now I know why a bunch of kids were sitting outside Target wrapped in comforters yesterday....Well all I can say is I am sure there was complaining about some of every adults teenage years. The olders always think theres something bad about what teens like or do. Remember rock and roll? Elvis? Mini skirts? I could go on....Yes Its a lot of money for a toy but if it keeps them out of trouble or off drugs then I say go for it. I hear its great for there hand and eye skills and brain connectors...Also what adult male doesnt still have toys of one sort or another? They NEVER grow up.....

There were lines starting OUTSIDE our local Walmart and Target. At least the weather was a little better last night then it has been, but there is still no way I would do that, even if I could double my money on ebay. The local Target was only expecting to get 6 of them - and there were already more people than that in-line. Going to be some really ticked off people who waited for nothing.

We went to town last night and there were at least 200 people in line at the WalMart there. Tents, sleeping bags and lawn chairs all over the place. Unbelievable the stupidity of some folks.

When the rain rolled in they all scrambled for the tents....LOL! And yes it rained all night long in our area too. What a way to spend the night.

I watched an segment about that on the local news last night - what was news worthy I guess was that one of the area Wal-Mart's were not letting the people campout in the store and it was freezing overnight? I failed in my attempts to be understanding and had the thought that the kids in the shot would make a perfect poster as to a strong reason there are so many obesed kids in America. Forgive me, I know there are also obesed kids who can not afford $600 video game players

Hugs
Marlene

Why would someone spend that insane amount of money for a TOY for a child? Is it at least educational???? (I bet it isn't.) makes me wonder.

Ain't no way I would spend that kind of money, but my 18 yo son just spent 30 hours in line and came home with one. It's being listed on ebay asap. He needs the money for college expenses. Hey, if people want to spend that kind of money.....

It's educational all right; one of the most popular titles is "Grand Theft Auto". You can guess what the point of that game is...
