“Why is it okay for pop stars and rappers who pour their filth into the minds of our youth, to live in luxury homes and have nice things, but a pastor is supposed to live like a pauper?” asked Elevation member Lori Carpenter on Facebook.
Indeed! I mean, remember the fine mansion Jesus lived in?

Oh, wait ...

My mansion is in heaven and it's being prepared for me by Jesus. (John 14)

Some of the "heroes of the faith" mentioned in scripture were very wealthy.

It is not your money that makes you stumble....it is your love of money.

And guess what? One who has very little money, but loves it much, is more at risk of stumbling over money than the one who has much money, but sees it merely as a tool to be used for good.

No small surprise Jesus talked about money as much as He did. Nothing new under the sun...

Technically, a swindler or scammer is not a christian, not even if they claim to be.
The only qualification to be a Christian, as far as I can tell, is believing that Christ is the son of God and died for mankind's sins.

I think it would be totally possible to believe that, yet remain (or become) a swindler or scammer.

No, WG< the only qualification is to claim you are one. It's not like claiming you are a doctor or an engineer and can be thrown in jail for making a phoney claim.

Pretty pointless, in my opinion, trying to decide if somebody ELSE is or is not a Christian. Hard enough to keep track of myself.

At age 13, a preacher babtised me and asked me two questions:

"Dost thou love and serve God?"
"Is thy heart right, as mine is with thine?"

When I answered "yes" to both questions;

"It is enough. I give thee the right hand of fellowship."

That meant I was a Christian and a Methodist. I am no longer a Methodist by denomonation, but the two questions still serve me as a means of judging my own actions and worthyness to bear the name "Christian". How any of us bear up under that self-judgement is nobody's business but our own and God's.....Joe

Satan know this too. There is a world of difference between knowing something in your head and fully trusting something totally in your heart. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who think they are Christians but they do not fully trust it in their hearts.

Willow, I think that much of the problem you have with Christianity is the actions of those who claim they are Christians. I am really sorry that such people put such a bad taste in your mouth. While my behavior does not reflect Christ, my heart is not like those who claim to be Christians but do not behave like one. These types of people have always been around. Christ spoke a lot about the Pharisees and their hypocritical behavior and way of thinking.

Matthew 25:1-13 talks about ten virgins who were waiting for their bridegroom. Five had prepared for his coming while five were not. When the unprepared tried to go to the bridegroom, he told them he didn't even know them. You see, all the virgins thought they knew him but only some of them did.

Matthew 23:13-15 talks about how hypocritical behavior behavior "shut(s) the kingdom of heaven in people's faces." These verses say that such people won't go to heaven. People like this turn off people like you, Willow. That saddens me to no end. I am praying for you.
