We have been on a lot of cruises and also several all inclusive resorts in Mexico and Barbados. I would suggest an all inclusive in Mexico, Cozumel or Cancun or somewhere nearby on that side of the Yucatan. Those are safe places and they really do have good food and service at a reasonable cost. I would check the ratings online on Trip Advisor before I chose one of them. I don't think they would steer you wrong. Good luck to the happy couple!

My son and DIL went to a wedding for friends last year at an all inclusive in Cancun and they had a wonderful time with great food and service.

America has so many places to go! I'm a HUGE fan of foreign travel, I would love to spend my honeymoon at Sun-Moon lake Taiwan, ride a motor scooter around the island, or maybe in Kyoto Japan, Hong Kong China, or in Israel!!

I was never a fan of cruise ships or PLANNED tours, I say load up a bank account and some bucks and take off in a direction, that way you are free to do and see what you want with no time constraints randomly finding motels/hotels on your way with NO plans.

+1 On the Cruise idea.

Yes, you do have to pay for tips (at the end of the cruise). But you get lots of room service, for free, and when you're on your honeymoon that's a very useful feature to have (not being crass, just being honest). Sometimes you want to roam the ship and do fun things, sometimes you want to stay in and enjoy each others company. You get a few different ports-of-call to get out and so on.

Just my .02 cents

Never been on Princess Cruisline, the smoking would really irritate me as well.

Great point about hurricane season!

Coming from Iowa also, I wonder if they would rather take their honeymoon in the late winter or early spring. My son got married this past fall and he went to Jamaica (Sandals Montego Bay), but he told me he wishes they would have waited till spring and would have appreciated it even more getting away from the cold weather. Also, if the budget is around a $1,000 for a week, Cancun is probably only place I can think of for all-inclusive for that price range. It is hard to find good flights out of Iowa that are reasonably priced.

There’s no more unique way to enjoy a Mississippi river cruise and experience the history, heritage and culture of America’s heartland than a voyage aboard a genuine steamboat like the American Queen. Stroll through charming towns and vibrant Mississippi river cities. Explore historic ports of call like New Orleans, Natchez, Mark Twain’s Hannibal, Chattanooga and Pittsburgh, just to name a few. Along the way, you’ll learn about the great events and people that have contributed to America’s history and culture. Your American Queen Steamboating river cruise on the Mississippi, Ohio and Tennessee rivers awaits you, so book now.
