Loved blockbuster ours closed years ago so we found all our favorite movies and tv shows and bought them at really low prices. $2 a movie and $10 a season.

All of the Blockbusters near us closed many years ago. And this was well before Netflix!

... TBH, I don't miss it one bit; their prices were outrageous!

I was a bit surprised to see a new video store open a few months ago in the shell of the old Blockbuster in Chelsea, MI.

Who would want to open a bricks and mortar video store these days? It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts.

I didn't know that there were any left. They were nice stores. I carried a card for a few years but only ever rented one movie and I don't remember what it was.

I just keep watching Michael over and over. There is something new each time.

Wasn't someone thinking about opening something similar for mammogram screenings?

It would be quite a squeeze to get much of anything through that little slot.

The kiosk had one of those one way mirrors women pushed their breasts up against. I think the guy is in a Florida prison now.

Responding to an old post: Chances are, they offer other goods and services too, like the way Family Video now has pizza.

There was an independent video and gaming store in my old town that did quite well, but it was also a case of location cubed; it was across the street from the high school.

I am surprised by how quickly it ran the course. From locally owned VHS rental outlets then Blockbuster putting them on the skids, then poof . . . gone. Technology listed as the cause of death. It certainly seems to have been a short cycle.

Same with retail music via CDs. We had a good one here. They managed to hang on for a long time due an extensive catalog of classical and jazz, now gone. Unable to compete with downloads.

It is going to get worse. All sorts of electronic toys will be outdated quickly. All sorts of jobs will go to Rossum's Universal Robots.

This is a fun thread.

I remember in the days before the Xs were hidden in a special room. We never used to go to the video store, but one Thanksgiving my aunt and uncle lugged their Betamax to our house. We were so excited to be able to go rent a movie!

After we had gone and looked and chosen one (I think it was Clash of the Titans), I asked my mom who Seka was. She just gave me 'the look'.

LOL! Someone needs to make an animated GIF and the words 'THE LOOK' Everyone has seen a mother do it, and the intensity and terror inspired can be pretty funny.

The comic strip "Stone Soup" had several strips about this a while back, and Val, the widowed mom of two tweens, perfected it to the point where 13-year-old Holly was drawn as squiggly lines, and said, "Mom, whatever it was that I did, I'm really, really sorry."

The last Blockbuster building in our area, which closed in the spring, has been purchased by the Metropolitan Community Church.

Yes, we still have a video store in the village and they have a tanning salon in the back.

IDK about the new one in Chelsea, I'll take a look next time I'm down there.
