While it has been hot and muggy here, we have not had any days in the upper 90s or higher, which is unusual.

With the unseasonably cool temps around here I've lost my excuse for only working til 11am. It seems there's a down side to everything. That's okay though, the place has never looked better.

I foresee some kind of extreme weather. It seems that weather extremes have become commonplace, at least here in SC. Last summer we hit an all-time record high of 107. A couple days ago, the high was 68 degrees- a record for the date. The rain has been well above average all year. July set a new record for rainfall. We're way ahead of average for rain- some 20" or so. Fields that have been burnt to a crisp in recent years are now under water.

What will the extreme be? Who knows? Hot? Cold? Wet? Snowy? I have no idea, but I expect something. We've had a couple mild winters, so it seems like it will turn cold sooner or later.

I've seen about a dozen mature Chinese Mantises this week. We usually don't see the mature ones until September.

Anyone else see 'signs' of an unusual forecast in/around your area?
...........I was just going to postulate , that , RV'ers are just as reliable a predictor of 'Bad Winters' as any Goose or Geese ! LOL , fordy

East Tennessee here. It has been unseasonably cool here. The poison ivy is turning red and some of the other leaves have started to drop. Lots of of geese flocking here too. Other birds are starting to form large flocks as well. I too am hustling on firewood. I need at least four more cords. Not a sign of the fuzzy woolies yet. I also feel we are going to have a harsh winter.

I'm predicting a mild, wet winter for my area.

Just talked to a farmer today (deep south) who said we were in for a hard, long winter. He says his hens stopped laying a few weeks ago and are starting to molt. He's never seen that happen this early. He is putting up as much hay as possible and will seed his fields with rye grass for winter grazing in order to prepare.
