I'm sure Detroit will recover, but not quickly. I haven't been there in at least 5 years, but there were nice areas of the city back then...and they were expensive! The cheap houses are in terrible neighborhoods.
Flint may never recover. You get what you pay for when you buy a cheap house there (except when it comes to taxes...you get much less than you pay for). Property values in Flint aren't just a matter of the market fluctuating/crashing like in the case of your house that you sold and then bought. Flint is cheap because it's a crime-infested dump. There are probably some nicer areas there too but I'm sure they're not cheap. As for Arizona I don't know the town you mentioned, but I'm guessing the weather is a huge advantage there. I've liked Michigan when I've visited family there, but the older I get the less I can tolerate the weather. Cold doesn't bother me, but cold and wet or hot and humid are almost unbearable. |

The auto industry destroyed Flint back in the 80s. If they haven't figured out something else to do in the 25 or so years since, they might not ever.

The court has spoken. The bankruptcy will go ahead.

GOOD let it

This won't make any difference to the people who live in Detroit. They'll still have police & fire protection, the water will keep flowing, and the trash will still be picked up. The bankruptcy is all about getting relief from contracts. It's the retirement beneficiaries who will suffer.
