Before I die
I expect most of you are like me. You have this one thing you want to do before you die. Maybe you have dreamed about it your whole life. Maybe you will realize the dream, or maybe you will not, but the dream is still alive in your heart and mind.
What is your dream? |
I will start it off.
I have worked for someone (other than my father) since I was 12 years old. I went to college for the expressed reason of getting a good job. I did. For the most part I have loved what I do. I have been in corporate America for almost 35 years now. Made pretty good money, raised my kids and they can fly around on their own now. My dream is to wake up on my farm and my day is my own. No more city bustle. No more meetings. No more ego maniacs. No more jerks. If I don’t like who I am with, I walk away. I awake when I want. I go to sleep when I want. I read when I want. I eat when I want. Basically I own my daily schedule more than I have since being a kid during summer vacation. It is a simple dream. It is my dream. |
Thats a great dream, and I have achieved a lot of those things, but I am married so that last part is not likely to become a reality.
|
Easy - just retire - no more nuthin' unless you want to do it.

Really, I can't think of any thing, right now. I have lived and enjoyed many of my Dreams..........
I have traveled around this Beautiful Country of ours. I've stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon, with tears in my eyes at the awesomeness of it. I have looked into the depth of the Meteor Crater, in AZ. I've seen the bubbling hot pools, in Yellowstone National Park. And I have sat beside cold mountain streams, in Utah. I have seen Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower and the Skyscrapers of our Eastern Cities. We've crossed the Rocky Mountains, the Great Divide and the Smoky Mountains. I have walked in the Bluegrass of Kentucky, the hills of Tennessee, the desert of Arizona and the fields of Indiana. I've seen the Southern Border with Mexico, and our Northern Border with Canada. I have 5 children, all grown, good upstanding individuals. I have 16 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. I have left a Legacy and made my mark. I'm married to a woman I dearly love, who loves me. Right now, I'm living out on 13 wooded acres, by a State Park, enjoying my well earned retirement. I do and enjoy enough hobbies & things around the house that I'll never be bored. It couldn't get much better |
I usually avoid personal subjects. This time you piqued my interest. This subject is intensely interesting to me. When I was a small boy I yearned to go around the world, live in the South Seas, see the Forbidden City, stand on the Great Wall and ride the trans Siberian Express from Moscow to Vladivostok. The Good Lord has made it possible for me to do everything except ride the trans Siberian Express. One day soon I hope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTymtAbaG08

I am married too, going on 35+ years. We run together sometimes... |
A dream is just a fantasy if you do not set a time line. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. If you have a clear idea of what you want you just have to work towards it but with a set goal - whether it be in money or time.
As one of those with an expiry date all I know is that you best do what you want now or asap. If you can't do it at least you can be working towards it. Until I was in my 30s I did pretty much what was expected of me, did my duty and never made a fuss. But then I changed and since then I do not suffer fools gladly. It is actually quite easy to do. My final ambition is to leave my family financially secure and in a few months I will have achieved that. |

I love America and would love to see her 4 corners and everything in between ... but I so want to see the world
|
My wife and son went to Stonehenge. They had it roped off and they couldn't get close. Some Druid festival or such.
I have traveled some. Seeing America is grand. Europe has its appeal too. If I had the money i'd never stop seeing the world. That falls in that fantasy category mentioned earlier. I hope you see it all my friend. Be a seeker and ye shall find. |
I am with JTM, although my biggest desire is even simpler. I would like to see the pyramids, walk through them, lay my hands on them. I have wanted this since I was a tiny child. I love all things Egyptian. It looks as though I will never see my dream come true now. Perhaps one day things will be settled enough politically that my DD can go in my place. SHe has picked up on my love of ancient Egypt.

I want to have a fortune filled life. 20 straight years of great crops, great prices. My goal is to have no financial worries, because my dream is to go to the third world, specifically central america, and work for christian organizations on building projects and other missions work.
I want most to give back freely what I have been blessed with. It is not ours after all IMO. I wish for the freedom to do this. |
I want to know the truth and final details about Amelia Earhart's life and flight. I want to stand next to a giant living Woolly Mammoth and feel his breath through his trunk in the palm of my hand and feel his woolly hair gripped in my fingers.
Of course I want to watch my little descendants discover things constantly until I can't see and know anything. |
I am living my dream with my soulmate. If I were to die today, I would die a happy, fulfilled man. If there is one thing I could wish for before I die, it would be to die before my sweetheart passes. I could not live without her.
|
I had three things on my "bucket" list and one I'll never be able to do.
1. Fly in an open cockpit biplane like a Stearman 2. Fly in the Concorde 3. See the pyramids (arriving on camelback of course) |
My dream is to enjoy the rest of my life with my Sweetie. We are retired and enjoy traveling around Oregon. With a cabin at the coast, cabin at Wallowa Lake, off grid cabin and the farm to enjoy a little piece of it. We lived in the cottage for the last 2 years and now will call the off grid cabin home for as long as we can. We would like to make a loop up to the Washington sound on to the Palouse, Rushmore, Badlands, Black hills, Yellowstone, Lake Tahoe, The Redwoods, Yosemite, Golden Gate. Next Year....James

I have the same dream as HD rider, and I am living it now. I farm/homestead full time, I wake when I want ( which is usually early ), I work alone or with my gal. I can read when I am done hoeing, shearing, mucking, cutting wood, plowing, planting, fertilizing, trimming, harvesting, haying, fixing, feeding, and watering. When I get it all ( or mostly ) done I sit down, relax and enjoy the peace of a well - run homestead.
I don't see myself ever working for anyone else again...at least not full-time, permanent. |

I don't want to die having never been a mother. I am of an age, now, that I know that will likely never come true.
|
Before I die:
*I would like the honor of dancing at my children's weddings...... *Holding grandchildren *Having a self-sustaining homestead, to teach the grands about gardening, goats, chickens, etc. *Go hunting, and field dress a deer, process it, and make some deer jerky (even better? Elk) |
i want to live in a number of different cities/states around the country for 6 mos. to a year ... just to see the sights and live like a local. dh had a job that can be moved to anywhere that gets high speed internet

geeish I was gonna say have a date with Norman Reedus and Brad Pitt but I suppose this is more suited to how I wanna live my life- LOL- it isn't a bucket list is it? |
If I died today, I'd be satisfied with the life I've lived. I can't think of anything I've wanted that I haven't had.
Dream small, get there sooner?! :pound: |

I've always said I'd rather be underestimated than overestimated ... :teehee:

I guess I'm very fortunate. I've learned that everything I need I already have. There are some things I want, but I don't need. Although, hair and a neck would be nice.
|
I'd like to be able to confidently drive a pony and carriage. My first horse hated to pull a carriage so I sold him. My second horse was a great driving horse but refused to get in my trailer. My present horse wrecked my carriage twice and broke my bones.
So I have a nice set of harness, a wrecked carriage and no driveable pony. |
I would like to build, with my own two hands, a log cabin on a remote piece of property in the rockies somewhere (Wyoming or Montana). With a trout stream and a 100 mile view. Did I mention, no neighbors.
|
I had a dream but the DNR destroyed it. Now I'm trying to build a picture in my mind of my final big dream.

I'd like to see the stars from the Southern Hemisphere, and I want to build a .32-.36 Pennsylvania rifle with a cherry wood stock :)
|
I want to see the mountains.
I've wanted to see them since I was about 13 years old. Almost 40 years later, I might get the chance. DD is planning to get married in CA this fall :) |

Shoot! I'm livin' the dream every day! Married to the man of my dreams, livin' in a camper down by the river, retired and doing what I want-when I want. 5 great kids and 9 beautiful grandchildren. In my garden every day. What more could you ask for!!

I have an old octagon barrel curly maple rifle given to me by my gramma after my grammpa died. She said that he wanted me to have it because I was the only one that asked to get it down to hold once in a while. It is very long and heavy. When he acquired it, he had it inspected, and fired once, many years ago. Someday, I would like to have a replica that I can shoot and play with. I hope you have started. |
I really want a kitchen. Yeah, I can feed folks but though it may look fun cooking on a woodstove and having crates instead of cabinets it is a PAIN. I want my son not to need me for anything. I want to see him totally free and able to live out his goals.
