What Nugent did was reprehensible and shameful, and he has said as much himself. His words and deeds since then show a sincere appreciation for our military men and women, part of which he says is to help make up for his "shameful actions" during the Vietnam War.

By his words and actions I believe he is genuinely sorry he did that. I have done things in the past I am not particularly proud of now and I am grateful that people and God are willing to forgive me. I am willing to give him the same consideration regardless of his political leanings.

wow! (wink )

this may or may not clear some things up in the knee jerk judger dept

http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/nugent.asp

And this is purely anecdotal(I mean, I was there), but at his concert he honors vets and enlisted, has them stand up and the crowd goes bonkers(in a good way), and it's not just a passing mention either. The love going between was def there. Far as I'm concerned he has done real well "repenting" and using his gifts to chaplain the troops.

Yeah I get accused of being a Ted groupie(so bite me!), but I gotta say, I have learned a lot of good things from him, "mystical flight of the arrow" and all that. All of us are messed up. Do we own it and try to make good, or try to hide it and be all righteous and frankly, everybody can still smell it.

The best preachers are the ones who know they are sinners. And I'll even add they did their sinning with their best effort...

ehhh, it is as relevant as yours is, so I guess it is irrelevant.

Then again, if it is all irrelevant in it's irrelevancy what is relevant?

I seen Ted open for Aro -smith maybe a dz times in the 70s. I 'v always like Teds note choices on guitar , but it was Derek St. Holmes that made me a fan . Derek wrote some of Teds most memorable lyrics .Strangle hold , Just what the dr. ordered , Hey baby ( my fav .) , Turn it up and I think snake skinned cowboy .I never got to meet Derek

Derek in 2011 -God I love youtube -

Let's see.....he was 18 years old....pursuing dreams of fame and fortune....the peace and love era was phasing over into drugs, sex and rock n roll....how harshly you wanna judge an 18 year old kid for their actions during some pretty turbulent times? If he owns it now and admits he was wrong, I can get over it.

...when it's said and done I'll have my fun, I can chew anything I bite......

If that's the way you feel, you are welcome to feel that way. I've had to be forgiven much, so I have a tendency to return the favor.

You know what would be funny? If you said that and you voted for Bill Clinton... wouldn't that be funny?

I have voted for several draft dodgers but they are still draft dodgers. What does my vote have to do with them being a draft dodger?

What did Ted need to be forgiven for exactly?

That must be high character trait that you like then! Good on you! I assume you like Ted for being a draft dodger then.

You sometimes have to make a choice between the lessor of two evils when you vote.Sadly the draft dodger sometimes wins.

Funny how that works, isn't it...

They have to go into the past to find dirt on someone not running for office, but refuse to look at the evidence of a criminal in office.

There is enough dirt on Obama with his known association with Ayers the bomber, yet that is alright..
Or his known association with devout communists, yet that is alright.

They have to dig in the past of Ted and bring up what many of us knew already.. They fail to see that he "made amends" and has gone above and beyond to correct the mistakes of his youth..

Unlike the Hanoi whore...
