Cooper's coming out was actually very understated and classy. He was responding to an email from his friend Andrew Sullivan, who then published Cooper's very eloquent letter. If you cared to read the letter you would find that Cooper also found his sexuality irrelevant to his job, but did not want his silence to unwittingly cause negative repercussions, perhaps in others thinking that he is ashamed of his sexuality.
