I see this as a good thing, especially for preppers that have things like diabetes. I have a friend that has been concerned about getting enough insulin for her DH in case of a melt down. I also think it would bring the prices down on these meds because it will open up competition. Get insurance out of the picture and the sellers will have to make it affordable for the normal person to purchase of they won't sell be able to sell certain things like bp meds. I know that if I had to buy mine, they better make it affordable or I just won't take it. Insulin of course, is another story, since it has to be taken, but still, I think even insulin will go down in price because customers will shop around for the best prices.

I don't think insulin is included in this but I agree with you that it should be. In the case of something like insulin I'd suggest people would still need to see a Dr, but then they'd be able to get it as needed all year.

Where does it say that if this passes YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE A DR. I see it as as option and thoses willing to do a bit of work (reseach) and have confience in themself they can be indepenant in this area. Those who enjoy others who someone telling them what to do can still have their cake and eat it too. Or will they complain that it will cost them more than those who provide for themselves?

You're right. I went back and re-read it. Don't know why I thought insulin was on it.

This could be why:

In a move that could help the government trim its burgeoning health care costs, the Food and Drug Administration may soon permit Americans to obtain some drugs used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes without obtaining a prescription.

BFF, you have over 15% of the posts on this thread and not one off the 42 "Likes".

You are moving farther to the left every day. There is only one thing in the world that Obama can do to make you and your mindless right wing cohorts into leftists and he has figured out what it is.

Do you know that my mom's diabetes TEST strips cost over 70.00 per month and are NOT covered by her insurance? Oh yea..that bites. And then she has to purchase her insulin..and so what does she do? Uhm she won't use the test strips but every other day..
yep..to save money..
I think charging that much for strips is highway robbery, but the drug mfg. know she has to have the strips so they give her the meter for free. I paid for her strips two months in a row so she would use them every day..and now her insulin is going up in price..

yea I am all for selling strips and insulin over the counter..I bet Wally World would offer them cheaper as one of their "common" drugs. Once a person gets the diabetes diagnosis and has been on the same meds for years, why should you have to have a script for the SAME meds you have taken in the SAME amounts for the past five years? Most diabetics know that you have to see the doc regularly anyway for monitoring.

I personally think there is no problem with selling OTC a diabetic strip or meter or insulin if the person has been diagnosed, perhaps an initial script to prove that the person has been diagnosed would be ok and from then on, it's over the counter. Maybe once every year you have to produce something from the doc to say that you are still allowed OTC meds. would be enough.

Thank you. So, do you think insulin will be on the list? If so, it's good news for several of my friends and family members who are insulin dependent.

Well, I never thought about it that way. If Obamacare is upheld by the Supreme Court, we will lose our right to order meds from across the border along with a lot of other rights.
