Raw materials are shipped to China and they make the steel
China makes the machine parts
China imports the cotton and makes the clothes
India makes the shoes
China makes the motors that make power from hydroelectric dams

Think about that.. If those things listed above could no longer be imported the US would come to a full stop. Unless and until the US creates the capacity to produce those things domestically, the nation will be at the mercy of others.

Business's are in business to make a profit they are not a charity. Business was choked domestically with government regulations and labor issues which made it expensive to operate. The worker DEMANDED higher pay. Of course they went elsewhere to produce their products. The consumer (who is the worker remember that) wouldn't pay the higher price and DEMANDED a cheaper product when they went shopping.

How does one expect to be paid at level that produces a widget costing $20 and then expect to buy that widget for $10?

The economy as we knew it will never exist again. The US is at a crossroads... the direction taken now will pave the way for the next 100 years. How hard that road is to travel... that's up to you and me.

Well said. Self sufficiancy and prosperity cannot come from selling insurance, doggie daycare, and coffee to one another.

Nowadays, Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products 'Made in China', so they don't show from which country it is made.

However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits are: 690-695 then it is Made in China.
