Speaking from my viewpoint and my experience - not a good idea.
They are not going to pay taxes. The employers like having them work on a contractual basis. They do not have to do anything more than keep up with the amount of monies they get and mail out a 1099 at the end of the year.
They do not have to pay any fees for unemployment, match any SS taxes, worry about being hurt on the job (taxpayers pay for any injuries), etc.
In short, if you show up, flash a SS#, you have a job for as long as you show up. You get a check - for the full amount - no responsibility for the employer whatsoever.
The employer doesn't want it any differently.
Now, supposing they should actually be put on the 'payroll' and have taxes withheld. They will get back more in Unearned Income Tax Credit than they pay in - and continue to get welfare.
Since many of them have more than one set of documents, and work more than one job, I can see them getting plenty back from the government. These people know how to use our system - and with the help of the government - they do use it.
The only thing that will help the American people and America is to tell them to go home - and now.
They will go home, healthier (unless they have eaten too much of our chemical laden foods), wealthier (illegals send back to Mexico tons of money each year - making it the 1st or 2nd national income for Mexico), and wiser (thanks to the education system in America. It's not the greatest, but they are making the most of it.)
