LOL what older generation do you think the clerk was talking with? Id bet it those born between 1930 and 1948. 81 to 62 year olds those that have enjoyed the progress and better life brought on after WWII but a bit old for the hippies.

This gets me too. We have a BUNCH of lib friends. NONE re-cycle, ALL use harsh chemicals on their lawns, ALL drive gas guzzlers-except one couple actually practices it all & never lectures.
I know this is my study of 12 but I hear it from other CONSERVATIVES who are actually CONSERVATIVE as well.

Will that be gas or electric? Now what do you suppose will happen to all those used up toxic car batteries? Or what about those mercury-laden CFL bulbs?

Ha Ha Ha... Greenies, you sure got it going on. We just never knew how wasteful we really were...

Not to mention ol' GE has the corner on the market of those bulbs. Created lots of jobs there! Over in CHINA.

I've read the OP several times in the past few months and I always enjoy it.

I use them because they are AWESOME!!!
They are cheap, compared to most things you can buy these days. (99 cents)
You can fit a ton of groceries into them, about 3 plastic bags worth.
And I can throw them over my shoulder, even when they are full, making for fewer trips to the house.
I hang one on the hook by the door and stuff the rest into that one and carry one bag back to the car.

But Olivehill said it best.. the thing about no one getting anywhere by pointing fingers. Way to go, Olive!!
I don't mind other people using them. I just don't use them for that purpose, and it's the whole marketing thing and attitude about it that puts me off.

When I was in college in the early 1990s, I had one roommate who thought it was odd that I always had my groceries bagged in paper. "But plastic's easier to carry!" "Plastic doesn't biodegrade." She asked if I would be offended that she preferred plastic, and I replied, "Of course not! They're your groceries."

p.s. I consider myself a liberal and voted not so much for Obama as against Sarah Palin. It was the first time since 1984, when I was first eligible to vote in a presidential election, that I selected the winner.

A perfect example of a waste of electricity. Take a reasonably humourous, innoculous post and turn it into a carping, foolish, finger wagging argument between a few people whose recreation must be trying to be irritating. Round and round the same rutted track.
I enjoyed reading the OP but couldn't finish working my way through the rest..

Yep, I remember that story... it was a classic example of intellectualism at its best! Rated right up there with the guys on some campus a while back circulating the petition to outlaw dihydrogenmonoxide aka dihydrogen hydroxide....due to its toxic nature to the planet. (the main ingredient in acid rain, along with its horrible erosion issues) What was worse..... they were getting signatures!!

For those who missed the original story, you can learn more about DHMO here

I guess the Democratic Disinformation Campaign worked on you, then. This may come as a bit of a shock, but Sarah Palin wasn't running for president.

Interesting... that was about three years ago now, with a heart rate around 60 beats per minute.... that 3600 per hour... 24 hours a day,,, 365 days a year.... I would say your estimation was a bit off. Nearly as far off as your estimation of her leadership capabilities had something actually happened to McCain.

On the flipside,, do you really have a lot of confidence in Biden? After all, Obama is "getting up there", he was supposedly born in 61, that put him at about 47 back in 08, and the life expectancy of a Kenyan male at that time was only around 55.. maybe 56.

Who is old? My dad (a very young 68) was at my place last year. He stood in the yard and looked around at the chickens and the garden and the trees and said "it's a good thing you and your family are taking such good care of your part of the planet since my generation dirtied it up so thoroughly." If it matters, most of you would consider both him and me "liberals". Not sure how that even came in to the conversation. I thought the OP was bringing up a very interesting and good point about perspective and understanding the experiences of other people. Mmmm.

I was talking to my dad the other day about this topic, and he told me that my grampa did his part to conserve energy... he pulled the old model T truck over in the fence row and parked it to save fuel! He didnt drive a motor vehicle again for over ten years.

LOL yes. Everyone wants to come to our house to see our "petting zoo" of chickens, rabbits, goats and a blind calf. They are just horrified when I say I can't wait to send these Cornish X to freezer camp And I'm pretty sure Ray Charles(the blind calf) will taste better than anything in the store!

No snot-nosed dumb-xxx clerk had ever better talk to me in that fashion or he will have his nose between his legs. I am one of those born during the depression. I lived for several years with one trip to town every two weeks, living off the land and using everything until there was no more of it. Beggars came to our door and shared our food (fortunately we were among those who had cows, pigs and chickens and garden; dad farmed until the crops failed.) Clothes were hand-me-downs and patched until there was nothing to patch. Not until after WWII did we have any sort of prosperity and plenty.
