I can hear (read) that this hit you like a gut punch. Dunno how old your mom is. But take a deep breath. Then look up chronic and wait to see exactly what type of CLL your mom has.

DH's husband has had CML (a bit different but similar course to low-risk CLL except that treatment- $100 a day treatment- is needed) for several years now. When we found out it turned out DH's uncle (his mom's BIL) has also had it for a few years before that- total 12 years now. Of course they were in their 60s and now in their 70s so we know we will lose them to something in the next few decades. We take it for granted (FIL- we hardly ever see uncle) except when he leaves $1000s worth of pills on the table at a restaurant or has forgotten to take his daily pill. It wears him out but even before we knew about it he was tired and we just thought it was his sleep apnea.

Let's hope in a few years- and for many years after that- that you are also able to take this diagnosis for granted.

Very sorry to hear about your mom, I know the news is awful, and yes it can be treated, but it is still awful. Any news we get about our loved ones that has that word cancer in it is awful. There is hope for better news though per all the posts above and I am praying that you will find good news when the diagnosis is finally made.

Thinking of you and your mom!
