Put God and Prayer and Punishment back in the schools and you would be amazed at how good things would get.

Schools in TN still beat kids with paddles and it hasn't solved their discipline problems or even lessened them. In fact, their problems grow every day. Praying at school would have no meaning unless there is some connection made at home.
I think many kids don't understand education. It is something totally separate from their lives. Why do they need to learn to read? What does this math stuff has to do with me? They don't have a means to apply it to their lives so it's rather meaningless. They don't understand what school is supposed to be doing for them....therefore, all
Discipline problems in schools have always been and will always be a parenting problem. Rare is the child that behaves at home and acts out often at school. Rare is the child that acts out continuously at school supported at home. There are a few, but they are not the normal discipline problem. I think we get way off base when we blame the schools for the kids' behaviors. I think the schools do everything they can do to help these kids for the most part. But what they can do is so limited without parental support. Many parents do not help their own children. Is it the kids with parent(s) at home that have family activities, read together, eat meals together, teach their kids responsible behaviors, etc, that are the problem in the schools? Usually not.
There is not fix to inner city school troubles without a LOT of PAIN. And Americans don't seem to want to do the hard thing. Perhaps there was a time when just not allowing them in school was the fix. But that would be a lot of kids on the streets causing trouble -perhaps we would eventually educate them in jail? Until we end welfare or greatly reduce it, some folks are just not going to have a reason to make sure their kids are educated. We've given our people a way out of working for their futures and unfortunately, many are weak enough to take it. We have people that PLAN on living on welfare. And unfortunately, once on that wagon, it's very hard to get off. We have done this to these people. It becomes a vicious cycle. They live in the inner cities. They can't get out - so their kids are raised in that environment with it's attitudes and traditions.
There is more reason to be educated than just to get a job. Education opens up understanding - understanding of people and the world around us. No matter what your job - we can all use as much of that understanding as possible.
