WARNING! ! ! Winter has arrived here.....

Hate to be the bearer of such tragic news, but happened to look up while doing the chores this morning
and saw a few scattered "white" things coming down out of the sky.......whatever could they be???:grit::nono:

This is the EARLIEST that I can recall that snow has fallen
in this part of southern Michigan......global warming....yeah right!

I think this is going to be a cold, hard and LONG winter.

jadedhkr 11/05/10 01:01 PM

Meh, we've already had a blizzard out here. lol

FiddleKat 11/05/10 01:06 PM

We got some snow here in the mountains today. Maybe tomorrow morning have some here in the valley.

Tiempo 11/05/10 01:19 PM

Haven't seen any yet here in SE Ingham county.

Fine by me :)

bluesky 11/05/10 01:42 PM

We had thunder and lightning with rain and hail yesterday and heavy flurries this morning! Brrrrrrr!

farmmom 11/05/10 01:53 PM

We had our first heavy frost this morning. Now, it's raining.

ThunderSnow!

LOl.. My son who had just recently became a meteorologist called me early spring last year and said that we were forecasted for "thundersnow"...Me and dh looked at each other...I said thanks and hung up... when I got off the phone we both just laughed.. what in the world was snow doing here in spring in Louisiana and what in the world was thunder snow.. well we got the thunder.. and it was cold but no snow.. to this day we always joke with him when he calls to give us our personal forecast...now I can tell him about your thundersnow..lol

Callieslamb 11/05/10 03:03 PM

It's been snowing here all day - too wet to accumulate though. It's just making slush everywhere. I'd rather have piles of snow. We can't be expecting a bad winter THIS year...I thought we had on LAST year. I thought we had a TON of snow last year - but then, we weren't used to any snow.

Oggie 11/05/10 03:06 PM

Early this morning, I turned a sprinkler on in the garden to try to stave off the frost.

I don't think that it worked.

My MIL called our RV this morning, waking me up, to ask me what I thought about how cold it was. Here in central Florida it was in the 40's this morning. Had to call my neighbor, who is house sitting for us while we're away, and tell her to bring my patio trees in and cover my banana tree. Suppose to be 32 tonight at home.

Our Little Farm 11/05/10 03:49 PM

Yep, winter is here. Fire is lit, and I'm snuggled up beside it with a good book.

I call it hibernation. :D

Kmac15 11/05/10 05:04 PM

You mean I may not have to run the AC on Thanksgiving? (calling for 30 tonight)

Txrider 11/05/10 05:17 PM

What are these white things you speak of?

Riverdale 11/05/10 05:38 PM

Copperkid, you must be around Benton Harbor ;)

Here in the middle of the Mitten, it is just some flakes.

Up in Boyne Country (where I am from) there is a bit on the ground.

Bill Steffens (WOOD-TV8 ) out of Grand Rapids predicts more snow (sorry Callieslamb) but not as cold.

chickenista 11/05/10 06:21 PM

It snowed here tday too! I couldn't believe it.
I left the house in short sleeves and 20 minutes later the temperature had plummeted and it was raining/snowing and dropping huge wet slush balls from the black sky. I couldn't believe it.

tinknal 11/05/10 06:29 PM

19 years ago we had 30 inches by now. Not a flake here, like early spring. Winter doesn't happen until you can drive on your favorite lake......

copperkid3 11/05/10 06:38 PM

Not even close Riverdale......

North side of Jackson county and when I went up to the feed mill in Leslie (south side of
Ingham county) this afternoon, it came down a bit more than what was reported earlier.
Enough so that we could actually see it BEFORE it melted on the windshield!!!
Not quite enough to start making snowballs or snowmen (or snowwomen) or ice forts......
though there might be by Thanksgiving if things continue as they are.

Growing up here in the south-central portion of the state, you could usually figure
that the first snowfall of the year would occur within a week (either side) of Thanksgiving.
The kids would eat their portion of the turkey, fixings and dessert, then head
outside to play touch football with the cousins.

I actually remember only TWO occasions that it was snowing on Thanksgiving
and it was the wet, slushy kind that makes great muddy messes .......
We would literally get covered in goo and muck and then the howling,
wailing and the knashing of teeth would begin as the various mothers
would bemoan THEIR fate of having to clean up little johnny or sally,
as they attempted to TRY and go inside to get warm and get that stuff
out of their eyes, ears, nose, etc.......

Having to ride home in the backseat WITHOUT getting it on the car's upholstery
was a skill all in itself; sometimes large sheets of cardboard were pressed into service
to keep the car looking semi-decent!!! :hysterical::smiley:thumb:

Texasdirtdigger 11/05/10 06:45 PM

Sorry 'bout them maters, Oggie! Such a waste. Such a shame!

georger 11/05/10 07:31 PM

Heck, we had a light coating of snow up here 3 weeks ago, and I had to drive through snow to and from work today!

beccachow 11/05/10 07:40 PM

Not SNOW. Our forecaster threatened us with it as well...hoping they are just tying to keep the minions under control.

Canning Girl 11/05/10 08:09 PM

No white stuff here on the front range of CO yet, and that is just fine with me!

rzrubek 11/07/10 10:19 AM

We had our first freeze at our place last night, although we were not home to enjoy it. We have been in Savanna GA for a friends wedding all week.

tyusclan 11/07/10 10:33 AM

We had a light frost in some low areas and housetops night before last, and a heavy frost last night. Earliest we've had frost in a while.

Patt 11/07/10 11:29 AM

We were actually normal here for once! We got our first real frost last week. It has been sunny and in the 60s and 70's here during the day.

Now if we could just get some rain, the drought is killing us! I'd even take some "thundersnow"! :)

Debbie in Wa 11/08/10 04:58 PM

It's been rain, rain, rain here for the last past week and now this week. Very heavy frost this morning, but according to the almanac the PNW is suppose to have warmer temps. this winter so I take it not much snow. If it is anything like last year, we didn't even have to break out the snow tires!

Roadking 11/08/10 05:50 PM

Getting flurries and a little sleet right now. First of the season...
Matt

Aye, warm enough I rekon; talk is that it will be in the 60's again today, and tomorrow. This global climate change thing sure makes life easy on the wood pile, but it plays havoc on the deer hunting; here it is, up in November, and the deer have to wait for night to fall before it's cool enough for them to move around.

I understand the Minnesota moose population is in decline due to these last several warm summers and winters; it seems it has to be cooler for their large bodies, and this global climate change has made it so warm they can't thrive here in balmy northern Minnesota.

copperkid3 11/09/10 11:39 AM

"IF" it is this 'global warming thing'......then it is a BIG

"if" to try and explain why there is a BOOM in the moose populations of Oregon, Idaho,
Utah and Wyoming........not so 'global' after all I'm thinking. Perhaps if 'science' took a good,
hard look at the 'evidence', they'd come to the equal conclusion that the moose in northern Minnesota are
dying to get away from the liberal-minded socialists who inhabit their land and seem h*llbent
on 'proving' that 'global warming' is man-made and can simply be done away with by banning
commercial enterprises wherever they happen to find them??? ANYTHING that makes
a profit must be bad; simply tag it with a global warming 'tax' and all will be well with the MN moose population!!!

One supposes conservative scientists could "prove" such a thing, but then, conservative scientists can "prove" anything conservatives want to hear, for enough money.
