Not a wedding per say, but a political move. Can anyone say " Mama run's for Pres in 2012"?

The biggest joke (outside of the "wedding" itself) is of them borrowing a jet and not inviting the owner to the "most expensive social event of the year"....

Aintlifegrand 07/29/10 12:25 PM

Good for them... it is nice that people can celebrate their wedding as they choose...

My oldest DD went just the opposite.. I was all ready to do the big thing for her..but she had something different in mind.. her and her Dh had the most fun, romantic simple wedding I had ever seen... it was just them and a few of us at an early september morning back yard wedding with a JP... The groom barbqued and they spent the day with all of us family on the deck... there was a poker game that lasted until late..then for their wedding night they finished with them and about 6 of their very closest friends out on the town dancing and having fun...

It was truly a beautiful wedding...of course my youngest son who loves all things orderly and "done right" called it the "Bumpkin Wedding"

Dr. Mom 07/29/10 02:21 PM

Prince Charles and Lady Di got married on this day in 1981. That marriage was such a tragedy. I truly hope Chelsea's marriage turns out well and lasts for a long time.

I have to say, while I am not a big wedding type of person, well, it IS the most magical day of a young lady's life, and if you got it to spend, more power to you.

My DH and I got married in an Elk's lodge...had open bar and pit beef, had the ceremony right there in the hall, spent less than $20 per person per plate for all you can eat, good grub! I hate going to a wedding where there is foo-foo food, like a sliver of chicken with a sidewalk weed on top and two glazed carrot slices with a cream of vomit sauce. You just KNOW you are going to stop at McD's on the way home to fill up, and you know that poor couple spent $50 a plate on that stuff. I had to entertain almost an entire fire department...they drink hard, eat hard, and play hard. It has been 8 years and people still talk about how much they enjoyed our wedding. My "wedding dress" was a floor length antique-white sleeveless cocktail dress I got from Chadwick's, on sale for $50. The money we were given via presents paid for the wedding itself.

Like others have said, good luck and best wishes to her. Growing up in the public eye and under the scrutiny of the press is very difficult, and she did a great job flying under the radar. She also went from awkward to beautiful, didn't she?

Besides, I'm sure that a lot of the cost is security. Can you imagine how many dignitaries are coming and what it takes to provide security for all of them?

One would not go to a friends daughters wedding and tell them that they had an ugly daughter either. But it might be so.

I wonder if the poor girl has a can opener.:run:

Someone should tell the folks over at Brides Magazine....

Our wedding and honeymoon cost less than $400, total.

Jokarva 07/29/10 09:45 PM

I'd never spend that kind of money, but that's me. I'm cheap!

I was about 3 ft from Chelsea at a Hilary Clinton rally in DC in 2008. She was talking with some of the younger people around us and she is so smart, well-spoken and really gorgeous in person. She'll make a beautiful bride.

I wish her and her intended all the best!

Common Tator 07/29/10 10:48 PM

All that money is helping the economy there, and I am sure the locals could use it.

I wish the young couple happiness.

Those who "sell themselves" to get some attention
It would sound more familiar with slightly different wording

Sometimes referred to as "media _ _ _ _ _ '_"

Ah I get it now, I read it wrong. I didn't read it as a noun, I took it as a calling, like "Attention, all prostitutes........."

That's the thing you see, she IS royalty. She is "American Royalty" and is being referred to that way on the media here and in many other places that are discussing her in a very flattering way. Daughter of a father who is past President and a mother who is currently a Secretary of State, watched by the public all during her growing years in the White House - she is America's darling and rightly so, she is someone for the nation to be proud of. I think it's wonderful for her and I'm delighted to hear about her wedding. The guest list at her wedding is astounding, all of America's elite and nobility.

Chelsea didn't get to pick her circumstances and from what I've seen, she's a daughter to make anyone proud. If her mother can just sell a few more cattle futures I really think the cost of this wedding is none of anyone's bees wax.
I congratulate Chelsea the same way I congratulated Rush on his wedding - and it sure sounds like Rush spent at least the same amount.
I love the freedom that wealth brings and the worlds it can open.

Gercarson - Kudos to you for this post, yours is a generous and understanding attitude and shows your American pride. :thumb:

First off, I don't care about the wedding. Mom and Pop want spend big bucks on their kid? Fine. The master stroke, the thing I do care about, the thing that makes me actually smile over something either one of the Clintons did for the first time ever (they are SUCH scum!) is snubbing The King and Queen of America! Not inviting the Obamas is such a clear message, a master stroke of political chess.

I didn't know that I'd thought of that, just assumed that the O's would be there. I find this very funny.

Good luck Chelsea and the groom. (He's brave gettting this close to the national media attention. They've actually done pretty good keeping this as a private matter until the wedding was announced.)

Amen! Its their money and they are spending it in the good ol US of A which will stimulate the economy and create or at least allow some people to keep their jobs.
My last: wedding, reception and honeymoon (my 2nd marriage, her first) cost us under $1000 and we're at 12 years now and still going strong (ok, she works for a travel agency and got us some amazing deals on the honeymoon, but had we had to pay full price we would have cut back).

Glad you caught the drift ;)

And by the Attention W's, I means Brides magazine, not the Clinton's :D

Since it is Hill and Bill's cash, they can spend it all for what I care.

Good fortune Chelsea, may the wind be at your back, and always a safe harbor.

Oggie 07/30/10 03:32 PM

If the bridemaids wear blue, and the father of the bride dances with them, it might take a lot of that money just to get the stains out of their dresses.

POST OF THE DAY AWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banana02:

I also hate the "elegant" food - first off, I'm a BIG eater. I don't want a little slice of meat, with a couple of vegetables - give me a REAL meal! One that will actually FILL me! Besides, most of the time the "elegant" food tastes no better than the REAL meal.

who cares its their money and they stimulated the economy in the area with the wedding .
Im sure the little town enjoyed the 3 million influx .
Notice a dem is helping the economy .
George married his daughter off at the ranch and didnt put much into crawford coffers

I looked at photos of it today. Seems that it was not a huge wedding (400 guest, the link said), and I did like the dress on her. And from the smiles, they seem so happy. I wish that happiness for always for them.

From what I picked up on the Canadian tv news reports and videos of it up here, apparently the media that were there were by invitation, they were bussed in and had a special press area assigned to them. Security was very tight. Maybe they didn't want a lot of American media or papparazzi there because they thought they would be indiscreet and would trash her wedding and turn it into another political debacle? I think they just wanted privacy for the wedding and the guests. In any case, the media that was there spoke highly of her as a lady for the nation to be proud of and they took flattering pictures. I thought she looked just lovely, like an ugly duckling turned into a swan.

.

Dr. Mom 08/02/10 02:17 PM

I can see their point, Naturelover. If they chose one US media company to cover the wedding, then the others would be angry because they weren't chosen. Not that the Clintons worry too much about hurting others feelings, though.

It still seems like a slap in the face to Americans for the Clintons to not have local media coverage. After all, Hillary is the Sec of State.

There was some local coverage, not all American media were excluded, but not all were invited - msn was there:
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/385001...oday_weddings/

You are right about some media being angry. If you google "American media coverage of Chelsey Clinton's wedding" you will find reports from politically biased media that were not invited and you'll see that they are indeed trashing her and her family. I suspect if they'd been invited the trashing would have been even worse.

I think the media everywhere is becoming FUBAR'ed. :stars:
