Hey ShyAnne that looks just like what I had to do to Shelly's tail. After I had to cut the branch out it was all scraggly so I trimmed it straight across, I think it looks pretty darn good!
And by next spring ..........

My girlfriends won't let me near my horses with scissors I don't know why, they are MY horses... I'm inclined to just hack off manes and blunt cut tails just like you did... (I think roached manes look neat on some horses and it is entirely functional on my drafts). Anyway, my riding gelding's tail gets so long it will drag. Gets full of mud, burrs and he steps on it when backing up. They taught me that if you twist the tail tightly before cutting the ends, you don't get that straight-across look. They clearly care more than I do when it comes to manes and tails so I humor them when it comes to my riding horse. The drafts still get roached and their tails are docked (I bought them that way - I wouldn't have a horse's tail docked unless completely necessary for show or another reason)

Hey, Thanks! Thats one reason I had to cut her tail, she rubbed her hind end across the fence and ripped a lot of her tail out, It looked terrible and this was much better.
I personally like horses tails cut blunt, they appear so much thicker.
I prefer her tail a bit longer, although believe it or not I could have cut it even shorter! She has a stumpy lil tail....

Of course come fly season there is always spray or fake tails...so you can have the best of both worlds LOL.

I'm sorry, but it looks to me as though she's asking, "Does this tail cut make my butt look big?"

Tiempo, is there any chance that you've been moonlighting as a stylist in the trendy Marda Loop district in Calgary? I swear my last haircut cost me $80 and it looks pretty much like Tucker's tail.

ford major, I think Chianne figured I was indigent because she kept asking me if farm people get free clothes when they buy equipment. When she handed me a mirror to prove that while contrary to what Chianne thinks, a razor blade is not essential to creating a symmetrical bob and I was wearing the bright pink JD hoodie that the test pilot bought me the last time he and I had a disagreement abouut room temperature

My saddlebred gets his tail put up in crochet braids. It is taken down for shows and once before winter. Down his tail drags the ground 2 ft, up it is barely below his hocks. Being a saddlebred person, I am sucker for long tails! Here is a website where I learned the braid. http://www3.telus.net/sherrisstable/HorseTails.htm

Ya Snicker's tail is now touching the ground, was thinking about trimming it...might try a braid. Her mane is awful, she came that way was told she rubbed it off on a cattle hay feeder. How long does it take for a mane to grow back?

the only thing we have ever been given by a dealer was hats!!! first one was in 1975 when dad bought a new haybine, the dealer gave me a hat and a barlow knife!! still have the knife!! even a 350 hp tractor rates a hat!! if you buy or lease your whole fleet they give you a jacket!!! and that is up in the millions!! as you state, you can however buy the item!! room temp!! after suffering in the Sahara all day (furnace proving/test lab!!) was nice too get out in the cool of the day!!

You know, you can use wd-40 or silicone based grooming products to work branches and all kinds of things out of tails without chopping them off.
I've used wd-40 on a tail that was a solid mass of burrs and just took a while to work them all out.
