The house closing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon. I am switching the insurance to my long-time agent, who can only come take photos Thursday AM, so that is cutting it close. I was thinking I could just keep the current insurance going, but looks like not. I am not very savvy about this stuff. I have a lot of vague anxiety. It bothers me more TO have it than the actual anxiety, if that makes ANY sense. I've been here 16 months. It's the house I grew up in. Finalizes some things, like the long drive for lessons and concerts, or to friends mostly in the nearby city or its' immediate suburbs. I don't have to stay here forever, but I knew I wasn't at all ready to look at yet something else. It's time to settle Dad's affairs and stop living on the good (and not so good) graces of my siblings, too. I feel like some other things in my life may steady down and I'll get going on some things I've put off. I feel like I live out of a big suitcase Maybe I'll move IN now, and some of those feelings, even though intermittent, of malaise, disorientation and such will go away?

Not much news here.Since our friend is still at the "special"in the hospital it's such a joy to visit my friend without his temper tantrums and abusive behavior. She is so much happier without him there.Decorated the room and door for Valentine, that made her happy .
The down side ,we still have lots of running to do to get the long term insurance and all the bank stuff taken care of.Seems to take forever and their bills need to be paid.
Had our sick granddaughter here yesterday.Hope we don't catch what she has.So, since all 3 have been sick I hope we are over it.
Been working on getting Valentine pkg's mailed to some friends. I think no matter how old you are it's still nice to get surprises.

GMB - Prayers of healing & comfort for you! You are one tough lady!!

Homesteader - That solar oven sounds very interesting. Kudos to you for putting one together like that.
*******

After having GERD issues last night - which I'm pretty sure was from the homemade guacamole I finished off - I finally just got up and slept in the DH's lounger. I had taken anti-acid meds and even drank a bit of baking soda water. I think the BS-water finally helped some, but I didn't want to lay down again. I slept pretty good in the lounger and felt rested this morning.
I dropped by McD's and got a mango-pineapple smoothie and a breakfast parfait. The pineapple in the smoothie helps my tummy when I'm having problems like that.

It's supposed to be cold and rainy later today. I need to go to Walmart at lunch for a few things and see if they have the 12v battery for the Power Wheels car I bought for the girls at Goodwill last week. I think I can get the battery & charger for less than $90. It's supposed to be in the 70s this weekend and the girls are looking forward to playing in their new car.

Well, I best get some things done before lunch. Have a great day everyone and stay warm!!

Friday night Bill came home and could barely walk because of his back. Had to help him up every time. Got his back brace on and he was doing much better by yesterday. Saturday it rained all day long, a good soaking rain, which we desperately needed. Got at least an inch. Then it changed over to snow during the night and we were only suppose to get an inch of snow but we got 4". A wet, heavy snow. Cancelled church as it was "crazier" up there, (pastor's words).

More snow today, it just started snowing about 30 minutes ago. Calling for 1"-3", with heavier amounts to the north (which is us!). Then by Friday and the weekend it will be in the 50's and 60's and be a wet sloppy mud pit around here.

Pretty fatigued now, so after I get home every day from my treatments I usually just sit and crochet or surf the web. Can get the house picked up first thing when I get up, doesn't take but 15 minutes or so and it is all good.

Oh, forgot, on Monday evening Bill got home from his class about 9:30pm and I happened to be upstairs and saw a figure walking down the driveway and knew it was him, just figured he could not get up the driveway because it had turned to ice already. Nope!! The car slid backwards off the road into the ditch. So we had to get the chains out, and I pulled him out and all the way up the driveway. He has class again tonight so who knows?? I may have to pull him out again depending on how much snow we get today.

Oh wow, Billie! You guys got the brunt of the storm moving through.
They had predicted a trace of snow or even more rain for us, but we never rec'd more than a gentle mist last night. We're just fortunate we we didn't get icy weather.
Prayers for you and Bill both!!
**************

My allergies were bothering me yesterday, so I took a benadryl last night and then later took a mild muscle relaxer, since I was tensed up and afraid I wouldn't sleep. Well I slept alright! I fell asleep before the Thunder game ended, finally went to bed about 10:30 and slept soundly until about 5:45 this morning. I feel better today, but I was so groggy I had to drink two strong cups of coffee just to thaw my brain!

I'm treating a coworker to lunch today. Her birthday was last week, but we were both busy. She offered to pick me up, since she works further south of Campus and doesn't have parking issues when she leaves for lunch. I jumped at that. It will be a nice break to have a leisurely lunch and chat with her.

I found the 12v battery and charger I needed for the girls Power Wheels car. Tonight I need to stop at the store on the way home and get a few groceries. That way I can go get the girls tomorrow evening w/o having to go shopping first. I'm trying to plan out my weekend so I don't make any unnecessary trips to the store and such.
DH has this Sunday off, so I need to figure out what I'll make for dinner. Maybe stew. I can just pop everything into the crockpot that way.

Have a great day, everyone and stay warm!

The house closing went off without a hitch, except my checkbook is a lot lighter. I can't say I'm excited, but I've been living here for a long time already. Better to resolve things that I can, though, and having this as mine and settling Dad's estate is a good step. I'm starting with some upgrades to electric and plumbing soon. It's mostly OK, but it's not great. Shut-offs that don't. Outlets or switches needed in places they'e not. I'm going to enlist my brother so some plans and dates get organized for the sisters to come take their stuff. He's ready to apply some leverage regards issuing $$ still in Dad's estate.. The bits he's claimed may stay a good long time, though, with him working out of state and renting a small place, and his family here. I'm OK with that. His wife is a tosser, so I'd rather the things he is happy to keep stay with me till he's ready to move them to wherever he ends up. The wintery weather is persisting here. A lot of snow, 14 or so inches, and then twice we've had another few inches over that. May be -20 or lower windchill tomorrow PM. That's COLD. Blackie the cat hangs out at the top of the enclosed stair out back a lot. Glad.

Wow UseLess, the snow. Oh my, I won't even tell you the weather here. Glad your house closing is done. It will be nice for you when things are all settled out and you can move on in that regard!

I'm happy exhausted. 20 pints of applesauce made today. I have to buy them, got them at Walmart, some Granny Smiths, Fuji and Galas for the mix. I know they won't get cheaper as the Spring approaches, so I went for it. Yummy good! The last 4 jars are in the water bath right now.

Still have to make dinner - easy though just a couple pork chops that I will throw some sauce over, with our chard. Applesauce too of course, had that last pint be just 2 inches shy of full enough to can it so we'll have it in the fridge. It was about 30 pounds of apples.

Whoop!

Homesteader, I absolutely love pork chops and applesauce! One of my favorite main dishes, especially with homemade applesauce. Cook those chops in mushroom gravy, add mashed potatoes and a veg, and it's a feast.
Use Less, congrats on the house finally being yours...One less piece of your life in limbo.

No snow here, but plenty of rain and now wind to go with it. I'm exercising inside the next few days, I think. I'm such a wimp.

I have an announcement! My older dd finally married her SO yesterday! They went to the courthouse and had a quiet ceremony, but it's official...they've been together half their lives and have 2 kids, so it's not like they rushed into it. I guess now I have to learn to like my new son in law, lol. Due to his drug use in the past, there are some trust issues, but it's getting better.

My littlest dgd, Guppy, turned 3 on Tuesday, and my oldest dgd, Fred (18) is planning a July wedding. Lots of changes in my family lately!

I am at work tonight, for my two night run. Had school the last two days, but got out early both days. Usually, the company will buy lunches when we go to school, but they claim money is tight. Yet, you see the bosses going out to eat all the time. At least our instructor brought donuts both days!! This morning I went and got my metal from where I bought it. The wife and I were going to go to town to do some light shopping and eat out. I phoned her on the way home from the metal place and told her to be ready. We were going to see the youngest daughter and her new baby. While there, we ordered lunch for us all and I went to pick it up. We could not stay but a few hours. I had to get back home, so I could get ready for work. While on our way to the daughters house, we past a tree cutting truck. The wife said, it is probably going to our house. Sure enough, when we got home, they were still there. The tree is down. I talked to one of the guys about cutting another tree down. He does it on the side. The tree cut today was paid for by the power company. The other tree I want cut, will come out of my pocket. So, I got his number. Well, I am tired and I have nearly five more hours to go. Sounds like NAP time to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So nice to hear about all of your goings-on, y'all! Very Spring-like weather here, and I am hoping that the fruit trees don't break dormancy. The last of the new trees that I ordered are here, so will have a busy weekend. The pasture is seeded (Thank you Dallas and Dean!) and looking forward to moving the geese out of the front yard and into the orchard, but I also need to dig and line a small pond for them. They have a metal stock tank now, and D built a ramp and diving platform that they finally figured out, but are not thrilled with. Hoping for Toulouse goslings this Spring! I would love to get the big pasture subdivided with fencing, but it is so hard to find good help here. The main fence was a disaster (long story), and every other project has fared as well. Well, will head to work early again.. My office is getting the star treatment with new shelving and a stand-up desk, plants and aquarium, as well as a little Bose receiver - if they can figure out how it works! - which is sorely needed since I spend most of my life there. Trying to decide if I want a small futon or a recliner, since the on-call room is three locked doors away and I frequently need to work on my charts if I am up in the middle of the night. Hope all of you have a wonderful Friday and weekend. Take care and God bless!

Glad you have the closing done, UseLess That has to be a big relief!

*******

I'm glad it's Friday. I have a spreadsheet to finish at work today - it's been tedious, but the update will be nice to get done.

Time to run errands at lunch again today. My dogs are well fed, that 40# only seems to last two weeks. The big pup is a hearty eater!

DH seemed to be in a pretty good mood last night. When work goes well, he is a much happier camper at home.
I'm headed over to p/u the granddaughters this evening. The weather here is warming up. It should be a nice day.

Have a beautiful day, everyone!

Morning all! Westexas so glad to see you post. I know people get busy and fall away, like I really miss brendafawn's posts. Hope all the missings are just too busy homesteading to post!

Whew according to my DH 30 pounds of apples into 20 pints canned is a lot of work. I told him how I couldn't believe how long it took, and it took ALL day to get it done. Gracious. He made me feel better saying it was a lot to do. It was delicious with our pork chops. I did my new go-to sauce MGM, 1 cup ketchup, 1 cup water, one packet Lipton onion soup/dip mix. Man it's good.

Have laundry going today and I need to clean out the barn. We do the deep litter system and it's time. DH brought home one bale of straw to lay in there. But I'm so so sore from yesterday's processing and canning I don't know that I'm up to it. We might have our gd out this weekend and that's not something I would do with her here, so if I don't do it today, it'll just get postponed again. Getting older is not for wussies I tell ya'.

Got the applesauce jars all cleaned, rings in the oven to dry quick (this works so good, plop them on a cookie sheet, turn oven on to 300F or so, for like 2 minutes, put them in, turn it off. Dry in no time.) I did have 100% seal rate - used my Tattlers on all but one. Every time I use them I am so glad I took the plunge and bought when they had that 1/2 off sale. What a relief to be able to use them over and over and ...........over....

Light hazy clouds right now so not a good day for solar baking. If it clears off later though.....then again, I should be too tired if I go do the barn.

Ok, go do the barn. It's time, no more procrastinating.

Oh, I got a pound of pea seeds! DH and I decided on 500 plants. I truly hope this won't be me come harvest time:

Can I get a "Whoop" of encouragement? Came in with a basket of laundry, I REALLY needed this for cleaning the barn:

Got the sleeping apartment DONE. This new bale of straw is the most compacted I have ever had! I had to almost stand on the end to get a flake to come off.

Sprinkled sunflower seeds over the tops of the flakes, to let the girls do the work of "fluffing" it - why not? They have nothing better to do!

Ok, I have about 1/10th of the "hallway" part done, need to go back to it, just needed some Whoop to keep going!

If I didn't love the creatures so much.........

Bleeding over. I worked outside less than an hour, came in to lie down so as not to wind up with a backache exacerbation. GFB's sister's exFIL viewing tonight is back in the city. I don't think I can ride there and back without being bedfast for a day with the back pain. I had wanted to go to the county fair tonight- opening night. But it's damp and cold and windy. Something is definitely going on with my body. Used to thrive in these temperatures.

It has been cold, but clear and even sunny today. Tend to feel better when it's bright in winter. I spread out more boxes of stuff and took pics. Now if all the sisters would reply promptly... They throw fits (at my brother), but sure drag their feet. This stopped being fun a long while ago. I want to be able to use at least one more room now that I own the house. I have a friend who would like to come to some gigs over here, but I don't have a place to put her up Yep, keep plugging. In a couple weeks I can stipulate that things be removed by ??? Nobody's coming from out-of-state in this weather, anyway, and I'd just as soon they don't track the snow and salt in, and heat the whole outdoors. I was thinking of getting Chinese take-out, but I think protein would be a better idea, so into the freezer I go.

Awwww, thanks for a triple Whoop~! I deserve it. And thanks ldc!!

Barn DONE. Happy happy hens. I also removed the old cracking no-good plastic utility sink and got that wrangled into the dumpster. We have a faucet in the barn, and used to just use a hose from that into the sink for cleaning and filling waterers. DH put some large pvc to drain it outside. But in our heat, those plastic sinks don't last long. I have been using a faucet that sits just outside the barn when it wasn't frozen.

Then, one by one, I removed these four pavers, that the sink had set on (sat on?), and under each, were bugs and oh my the gals went nuts. I would take one out, let them all eat up the bugs, go back in. They were very skittish you see because I was in there with a snow shovel and this was new to them (the chickens of course). So I had to stay out of the barn for all of them to get some buggies!

Well I'm so afraid to stop moving cuz I know I'll be so sore, so I confirmed our dgd is coming tomorrow (yes!), so I vacuumed, mopped the kitchen floor, did some hand watering outside as it's - wait for it - 77F out there right now. And it's laundry day so that is ongoing.

Kind of out of stuff to do so I think I'll take something to stave off the pain and watch utube videos of other homesteaders doing work Finished off that pint of applesauce with my lunch. Ohhhhhh so good.

See ya's!

Sounds like everyone has been so busy!! I hope all of you in the areas that have been pounded by the snow have much better weather soon! It was a sunny day here today - in the low 40's. Tomorrow it is supposed to be warmer, I hope so as we are going to an auction and I hope to be the high bidder on some Victorian furniture for the upstairs apartment. My new order of chicks should be here early next week, 63 new peepers. I am down to 18 chickens, 4 guineas and 5 turkeys and need to get the numbers back up. Most of the chickens are layers but I did order 10 Freedom Rangers for meat.

My DS and DBIL will be here next Thursday to visit for a few days, can't wait to see them. I need to finish the quilt I am making for their first Grandbaby which is due in March. Then I can start on the receiving blankets and quilt for my DB and DSIL's first Grandbaby. Those babies will be spoiled rotten!!!

Back at work tonight, but it is FRIDAY!!! After I wake up Sat afternoon, I have a tree to clean up out of the front yard, a cabinet to finish painting, and to install also. I got trim molding to put around a buffet top, the edging. Hopefully get the lumber for the lean-to build. Monday, my truck goes into the chevy dealership for all the recalls. Says it will take all day. I hope to be able to get a car to use, but I am doubting it, since I did not buy the truck there. If one of my brothers are home, I will have him come get me. My wife may have the sick grandchild to watch. I will know more Sunday. So, I got PLENTY to do. You all stay warm, and remember SPRING is coming!!!!
