GMB - what is the extension on the file you received? I received a spread sheet from my cousins with a comprehensive list of addresses and can't open it using Microsoft Office.

PM me if you want to send the complete file name. Also what operating system, version and what MS Office version you are using.

I worked on the changing table and I finished it!! Of course, I forgot to get a picture. Yesterday, started out normal. I was going to finish the table early, take it too my daughters, early enough to eat supper. Her husband is going to put the finish on it. At 2 PM yesterday, the wife tells me to come listen to the answering machine. My sister left a message, DAD HAS BEEN IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT. So, I head to the hospital. He is fine, just sore. Air bag punched him. It appears, a Mexican man, ran a redlight and hit dad. The mexican had no insurance. Dad's truck is pretty messed up. So, I got back home. Had 30 minutes of work to do on the table. Got it done, and then I loaded it up and took it to my daughters house. I wanted to beat the rain and I have to work this weekend day shift, my three days. My daughter is due the end of this month, so I had to give son in law enough time to get it done. There is overtime for my off days, but I am going to try and only work one of the days. I have a doctors appointment, my annual, to refill my medicine. Well,my coffee is cold, you all stay warm. It is warm here today in Louisiana. It is going to be 24 degrees in a couple of nights. No wonder everyone is sick!! OH, as soon as the table is finished, I will post a pic of it.

Travis hope your Dad is feeling better real soon. What a scary phone call to receive!

Vicki - also hoping your DH dodged the ice!

GMB- from now on I am cooking roasts that are frozen. So much better, thanks for the info!

Got a lot accomplished yesterday. Christmas decorations are put away. Made good progress on the stocking I am making for the baby shower. Laundry, cleaning and a basic budget for 2015.

We have some frigid weather heading our way. The high on Monday will be -5, the low -25. I'll be doing some baking!

Stay warm everyone! And safe!

Selena- MS Office 2010. I will have to look up the other stuff. Haven't been able to get into the garden. Get up, have 2 cups tea, read the paper and it's almost noon.
GFB had a little spell last night and it scared the tar out of me. We went to Panera Bread after the movie & he was almost thru with his sub when he turned pale & popped out in a sweat. I felt helpless without my bp cuff & stethoscope, especially as whenever I'd discreetly tried to take his pulse he'd pull away. He insisted we pick up the milk we needed before going home but I insisted on driving. He refused to go to the ER. He'd cut back on his metoprolol from twice to once a day, so I asked him to take a half pill when we got back to the cabin. He went to bed and to sleep & I was awake till after midnight, listening to his breathing. I have a dr appt Tuesday and intend to ask him for a cardiology referral for GFB.
Today he did 2 loads of laundry and the dishes but I suggested we both stretch out and take it easy, so that is where I am heading now

Waiting on the snow to begin. We are in the 2"-4" band. Bill has been outside getting the blade on our little lawn tractor. Our driveway is uphill, curvy, then downhill and curvy again. No getting out unless it is plowed.

Looks like I am starting my radiation early. They called yesterday and want me there on Monday morning.

Homesteader, I will try and answer your question. Surgically speaking, I am free of cancer. Tumor removed and area around the tumor is free. She actually went around it twice. Four sentinel nodes taken out were all negative, too. The reason for the radiation is because, of the possibility, that there is one naughty little cancer cell that decided to break away, be sneaky and hide. I, also, have several areas of what they call calsifications. Those areas can turn in to cancer, as well. The radiation should take care of all that. I, also, have positive hormone receptors so taking the pill for 5 years blocks that. Doing all this, the chances of this type of cancer reoccurring is very, very low.

Holy Cow, Travis & GMB!!
Travis - I'm glad your Dad is okay!

GMB - I hope you can get GFB to the Dr. - that would have petrified me. I can certainly understand your staying up to monitor him!

Billie - Praise the Lord the Dr. got it all. I've had a few friends who had to take chemo as a precaution. Hang in there, prayers for you!

The ice storm missed us! I think it ended up in the panhandle of TX, panhandle of OK and part of KS.
All we had here was a cold rain, thank goodness. We need the moisture. I don't mind rain and snow, just not the ice. I'm very thankful it didn't hit us.

It's around 40 today, drizzling and chilly, but not bad at all. I went to church this morning and stopped by to see my cousin on the way back home, but they weren't there. So, I stopped to get some groceries and then drove in to see my neighbor, as I picked up the mail down the road.
I sat and chatted with him over an hour. He's retired and I try to pop in and catch up when I see him outside sometimes.

I put a pot of beans on before I left for church. I'm going to fix some fried (microwave) potatoes & onions and some cornbread this evening to round out dinner. It smells heavenly in the house.

Have a wonderful evening, everyone. Stay safe & warm!

My sister & I were feeling very blue; our brother left for job in FL yesterday. We had breakfast out, early, and then ended up having lunch, too. She had a Groupon, and by unanticipated coincidence, she, her daughter, her son, his girlfriend and I were all in the general area of the pizza place at 1PM. I did a few errands. Took longer than planned, don't they seem to always lately? It is either rain or grappel here right now. Won't stick. They were saying high in the 50s tomorrow. Not looking forward to midweek, when Wednesday may be a high of 17. My lesson schedule is now really full. 330-8PM two days, and 330-700PM one day. I don't want to fill that last hour, since sometimes I need to move someone around for various reasons of illness, appointments, sports meets or parents' work. After all that restaurant food, I am going to be very careful about what I eat for dinner. Veg and fruit only, maybe. I stick to my calories. Feel a little salted. Half a headache, but could be the weather or "stuff". Usually only drink decaf tea by this hour, but may go with regular.

Went shopping yesterday and got a haircut. I was so tired when I got home yesterday I went to bed at 8:00pm and read a book. I can go full speed for a good while then I crash!

Today we went to Megan's house for Wesley's 2nd Birthday Party. She had really good food and had her house fixed up very nicely. They just moved in four weeks ago. I am thinking about staying up to watch the Steelers wild-card game. Not sure if I can make it until 11:00pm, and of course it will probably run over!

We always take a photo of all the kids at the Birthday party. Here is Madilyn, Cassidy, Wesley and Sydney -she is not feeling well, has a cold.

My brother ended up stopping at a hotel short of his destination when they ran into traffic. Makes sense not to try to move into an apartment in the middle of the night, both for their sakes and the neighbor's. When he hit the FL state line and texted 300 miles to go, it really came home, again, how far away he is. It was good to get out & around yesterday. I like my down time and some time alone, but I can start to wallow in it if I don't watch out. Productivity and enjoyment both slump at an almost-predictable point. This week will be busy. Back to work Monday; lunch with my former colleagues Thursday; all-day fiddle workshop next weekend. I need to do some thinking & planning today for this week's lessons. Rally the troops as it were. I take notes for myself as well as write things in a spiral I give each kid. Better than trying to remember 22 plans It isn't that different to make assignments, assessments, corrections and choose materials one at a time than it is to do that for a classful. I'm not sure folks who don't teach understand that. Last night's blowing rain came through the sunporch roof. Put out half-a-dozen bowls under the drips. Not much water in the end. We know it needs something, though it takes exact conditions to leak. On the upside, nothing into the front cellar, where there was a problem before I worked on the gutters.

Melissa - those grandbabies are adorable! I love the cakes, very cute idea!!

The sun is out today - YAY!!
I'm enjoying solar energy streaming through the windows. It's extremely cold outside today - in the 20s - but the horse and farm dogs seem to be enjoying the sun anyway. They are all laying out in the pasture.

I stayed up late last night finishing a book I started about a month ago. Today is my last day of vacation. Back to work tomorrow. I'm going to work on the house and take some breaks in between. I've really enjoyed these few weeks off.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!

Melissa, I love 2 cakes for a 2 year old! You have adorable grands - NEARLY as cute as mine, lol.
Travis, glad to hear your dad is okay.
GMB, why are men so stubborn? Never mind, rhetorical question.
Michelle, any word on the job yet?
wormlady, WELCOME!
Everyone else, I'm not ignoring anyone, just too many posts to answer everyone individually!

I've been having trouble with SAD this winter, as well as chronic back pain, and it's really affected me. Today, I finally woke up with energy and drive to actually get something done. I'm doing laundry, including sheets, and I've taken down all the Christmas decorations except the valances. Don't have anything really put away yet, but I'm getting there. I'm starting to feel my back already, but I'm determined to at least get my bedroom totally cleaned and organized, the laundry done and put away, and get my tax info organized and ready to file as soon as I can get my W-2 from my former employer.

No word yet, I figure I will call this morning since he said by this week and today counts. I really hope I get it. I have had last night off and tonight off. Spent tonight lazing around achy, trying to rest up from having worked a thirteen hour shift friday night. That really takes a toll on me, plus I need new shoes and am not going to get any until I hear from this new job, cuz if I get the new job I'm getting better shoes, otherwise forget it I will have to get whatever for the uniform. I don't think Dollar General has a uniform, so I will be able to look nicer there.

The cold has arrived overnight with a brisk wind. In the teens now, though going up some today. A high of 17' predicted for Wednesday. We'll see if schools close. Some do, especially those with many or all walkers when the windchill is very low. Also, the buses won't always start since the oil binds up. I didn't get on to thinking through this week's lessons yesterday, I was just blue. It'll be OK. My pre-teen and teen students won't all have practiced that much, though I hope they played for fun Many have a school playing exam coming up. I involve myself because they want help & feedback. Sometimes that collides with what I think is best for their overall progress. I'll at least get out my notes and review for today's lessons. I have AM time each day since I start at the end of the school day. When I retired 7.5 years ago (yikes!), I realize now I hadn't made a plan. I was old enough, but a young retiree, schools were changing in ways I wasn't crazy about, a pile of my long-time colleagues were all leaving. I decided at the last minute to join them. I know I wasn't thinking I'd end up with a part-time job corollary to my long career. Some of my old colleagues look at me with crossed eyes, but I enjoy what I'm doing. Some of them continue to substitute a lot, and one or two did something similar to how I've gone. In many ways, this is the way I think I was meant to teach, and a lot of that school job was either preparatory or "a job". My brother's e-mail last night sounded blue and a little overwhelmed. I don't see how he can't be. He starts work today. I think he doesn't really know what he'll do with himself outside of work. He's used to a big, old house that needs stuff done, owns a rent house, has two kids who are in sports & music. Sigh. A little more coffee for me, the paper, and then to work.

22 below zero here this morning. High of 5 below zero.

Schools are cancelled across the region. No need to go anywhere today - hunkering down, doing some stitching, some Bible study, some paper work and some baking.

Stay warm everyone!

So I called and the answer was he hadn't made a decision yet and planned to do so later this week. At least it wasn't a "heck no!"

wormlady - Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

It was cold here this morning, but not below zero!
I got in the car and it said 13 degrees. It's supposed to be cold like this all week, but a high in the 30s a few days. If the wind doesn't blow, it's not bad.

I'm doing the best I can to keep the outside critters warm. The farm dogs and cat can get under the house and it's pretty warm, after I insulated around the crawl space this year. I've, also, been adding a lot of fat to their diet and they scarf it down. I've found a good joint supplement at the farm store in the form of a dog treat and the Blue Buffalo Senior food has glucosamine-chondroitin added to it. My old dog is getting around a lot better lately, since I switched over and started doing this.
He used to come in the house at night, but after we got the chihuahuas, he refused to come in. It's pretty funny that 5 lb dog rules the roost over a huge farm dog!

I'm back at work today. I loved my time off. It was a little disappointing having to come back after such a nice vacation, but I do have more mental energy today, than before Winter Break started.
I can say though, I am definitely ready for retirement!

Have a wonderful day, all!!

Brr for most of you, while it's warmed up in my neck of the woods. Thermometer is reading 53* outside. We barely need a fire in the stove today. Of course, it came with Pineapple Express rain...rained pretty hard here all day yesterday and overnight, but not nearly as much rain as the coast got. Aberdeen and Hoquiam are underwater, and I'm sure many other areas that I haven't heard from yet. Seems like I get an awfully lot of my local news from facebook anymore!

I spent the morning wrapping birthday and Christmas gifts for the grandkids. I'm glad to have that job off my list for the month. I dragged the tote for the tree out and hope to have all the decorations put away by tonight.

I've been working on my knitting again...it's getting easier again (relearning after my lesson with my sister), but I'm still having trouble with my tension. I'll get there - I'm very determined to master simple knitting this year!

Thawed out another rotisserie chicken yesterday and had legs and thighs for dinner (and breakfast today). I have the bones simmering for broth, and I think maybe tonight's dinner will be chicken fricassee and biscuits or cornbread to spoon it over. It feels like a comfort food kind of day, with the skies so gloomy.
