We've had frog strangling rain with occasional power outages the last few nights, and our kitties don't like it one bit. We took GFBs coffee and my tea down to the dock with a half loaf of stlae bread and fed the fishes and the turtle that comes to visit. We put a batch of brad bits on the dock- call it our "kittycam" as the jays, starlings, crows and grackles come to chatter and dash nearer and nearer to get it. The kitties never leap at the birds- just watch. The morning at 6:30 was nice and cool with a gentle breeze but by 7:30 I was breaking a sweat so we closed up the house. It was a very productive morning as GFB scuffle hoed huge amounts of water weeds and hauled tem to the burn pile and I hauled huge amounts of detritus to our compost to lay over the newspaper layer I put down for "browns" (carbon) Got a little shaky by noon so we called it quits.
We saw Transformers: Age of Extinction last night 3D. A very interesting movie. A nice brief homage to Marvel Comics "New Mutants" from the mid 80s-one of the 'bots looked like Warlock from the 2nd incarnation of the comic. Lots of shoot em ups and robots of mass destruction. Lots of fun.Edited to say- and Dinosaurs too !! What could be better than giant transforming robots and dinosaurs??

Going to shower and nap now.

Nothing doing here. Donut fryer has put in his notice, and he is the one we really have faith in, so now I'm going to be training again! Going to be doing a contintuin training session with the new guy we still have. Hoping he sticks with it.

The guy that didn't want to learn cutting is on suspension, so now that messes up our originally planned couple weeks. He sucks bad though. I walked in and he tells me "Welcome to Hell, I had to deliver fifteen dozen donuts"...and that is a light thing compared to when we have the college account up and running! So he got wrote up once, then today he took till 8am, five hours, to do what takes me three...and proceeded to screw up a lady's order for white cake donuts...dipped ALL of the cake donuts in chocolate...then he redipped some in white and called that filling the order. The lady was upset and demanded her donuts be made right, so I had to make a five pound batch of cake donuts and hand deliver them to the square, which I was happy to do in great weather, and we gave her the entire purchase she made for free!

I had to get out of there at 1145 because we are not allowed to have overtime, so I made the prep list and iced everything and left the rest for the closer. She will have an eight hour day today and I don't care. Going in at five in the morning!

My newest seeds have sprouted!

Sorry about the employee, Michelle. Seems like people don't have the work ethic they used to, at least some of them don't. Hope you get a good one next time that will stay!

So last evening I get a text from my boss saying that the closer called and left two voice messages saying that I left her biting the bullet...no...you have to work here! You are scheduled for a reason. This is not optional. So I went in with my boss and helped her. The girl did maybe a third to half of her work and left the rest. We are tired of her and she is only scheduled for one day per week, because she is way slow. She complained of having money problems, but we gave her an opportunity to work and she walked out. Left the boss a voice mail saying she needs to be with people that love her. She was crying all day. I think she is mental. Anyway. We got there and all of the break was just as I had left it. She had packaged all of the bars and the other things liek that. Left the bread to sit and didn't do prep. So the boss and I tag teamed it and took two hours to get it all done, including a little bit of prep. She could have hustled and stayed another our hours. She stayed five as it was, moved very very slow. We are hoping to unload her for job abandonment.

Going to get hay today, not enough to last a year, but maybe the rest of the summer. It's so expensive this year, and the budget is tight, so we just get it as we can.

Belldandy, the garden looks wonderful! Whether it is a full acre of something or a pot on a patio, growing something makes you feel proud you can produce some of your food. I need to find a way to be more productive here. Might need a miner's helmet and do it in the dark when everyone is sleeping tho.

Thanks.

Hope Mama's doing okay.

Its been HOT and HUMID and showers wait till DUSK which doesn't give us that cool down in the middle of the day.
Drove back to the city last night to pack for a trip to my moms- DS and family will be there on the 2nd, 3d, and 4th-they want to go to Busch Gardens and my mom is very conveniently located for that. GFB and I turned down their invitation to go with them- all those theme parks are excruciatingly hot in the summer- like walking around in an oven- but we will see them in the mornings and evenings. My mother has been really very angry and manipulative with me- complaining that she gets to see her favorite niece more than me. She has ordered us to stay with her at the house- along with DS and DDIL, DGS and DGD (17 and 12) and bring our 3 cats along. This where we have found DDIL going thru my purse several years back to steal pain pills, and my mother had come up missing some of her medicines after their last visit. Not to mention the money we have missed when staying at their place. This is one reason why we always stay in a motel when going to see them ( or a kamping kabin) There is a LaQuinta only 1/2 mile away- pet friendly chain- we will have to just try staying at my mothers, with all that hockle-bockle- and see what happens. We can go to the motel if things don't work out with us all in 1 house. GFB is not flexible at the best of times and I am upset with myself for not having the gumption to stand up to my mother and say we are going to a motel and that's it.
I got finally!! all packed for the DC trip too. My little carryon is 19x14(?) smaller than most marketed carryons- not only the shaving kit but also 3 outfits and the nightwear and flip flops to wear instead of slippers - also instant cold packs to carry on the days we hike the National Mall (for treating heat exhaustion), Yahtzee pads and dice, a travel Scrabble in an apple shaped case, I need to get some Bungee cords to attach my travel pillow and throw to the carryon and probably will pack some snacks, drinks, and books in a backpack. On Friday GFB took me to the mall and I got 2 more outfits in parachute cloth, a very lightweight and packable fabric.
Michelle sounds like your work is VERY dependent on you! Start drafting your case now for a promotion and raise, pointing out all the training you hve done and how you willingly worked extra when co workers didn't pull their own weight. But don't ask for that promotion till they have gotten rid of the slackers, you don't want TPTB to put you over the slackers and then blaming you for not transforming them.

Michelle - You are amazing! You've put up with so much at that job.
I admire food workers. It's such a transient field of work and it's hard to rely on people. I was a food worker back during my teen years and I loathed it, thus, I found another line of work. It's a tough job - I'm glad there are people out there like you, that enjoy it and are dependable!!

Jan - I'm sorry your Mom isn't doing well. Prayers for you both!
******

The weekend was good. I attended a wine & jelly making workshop on Saturday for Sand Plums. It rained buckets that afternoon, so it was a nice cool day.

I had energy yesterday, so I started cleaning and got lots done.
Around 3 pm my chihuahuas were raising cane looking out the front window. DH was mowing and I noticed a strange dog was following him around on the mower. I could tell he wasn't sure what it was going to do, it had just appeared out of the woods. It didn't look mean, it was a medium sized collie mix, so I walked outside and it came right up to me. It's a girl and she looks like a young dog, maybe 6 months old. She's covered in ticks and stickers.
So, I fed her and she was definitely thirsty. I've noticed twice in the past week someone dumped puppies off on one of our rural roads. It's so irritating - many of them end up getting hit, or they end up being killed by coyotes or other dogs.
Anyway, since she just appeared out of the woods and she's so friendly, I took that as a sign that she's probably meant to be with us. So I fed her and she was really thirsty. I told DH, if she still here in the next few days I'm going to make an appointment to get her shots and all at the Vets office and we'll keep her. She's a good dog, very sweet.

Later, while DH was mowing, I noticed a truck outside and didn't recognize the man talking to him. I soon found out it's our neighbor's Dad and he'd asked to come over and harvest sand plums. DH told him okay w/o even asking me!!!!
Needless to say I was pretty mad. After spending a whole day on Saturday learning how to make wine & jelly, I asked DH "Why do you think I took that workshop? I'm planning to use that fruit!!!"
I told him last night, he better let the man know I don't mind if he fills a plastic bag with some fruit - I don't mind sharing some - but if he comes over and raids my whole thicket, I'm going to be PO'd!!!
I think I got my point across, then he took me out to dinner!

I was not ready to come back to work this morning, but here I am anyway. Lots to do today, so I better get with it.
Have a great day, everyone!!

OUVicki- you have my sympathies with finding out your harvest has been given away!
Jan- My packing skills were honed in Boy Scouts. In 1990 I packed a large suitcase for summer camp and found that there was no cargo truck to haul luggage to the campsites. To quote Rev Johnson from Blazing Saddles "You're on your own". Then we started doing our backpacking trips (FTA already knew me as a minimal packer) and then traing for the High Adventure trips, where we were allowed ONLY the gear we could fit in a 5 gallon bucket, including sleeping bag and airmattress! That was for a 14 to 24 day trip too!You couldn't cheat because we were 3 scouts to a canoe, and all 3 had their personal gear stuffed in 1 15 gallon Duluth pak! !scout portsged the Duluth pak, one the foodpak and 1 the canoe.
Gotta go-leaving for the lake now!
