Corn Huskers Lotion...LOL...when I was working on this dairy farm we had it sitting on the shelf of all the meds and treatment stuff. One of my Spanish-only speaking coworkers asked me what it was for, and made the motion of drinking it. He thought it was cold medicine (said that's what another coworker told him). I had to explain it was for hands. I get a chuckle every time I remember the look on his face.

*shameless plug time* I make a solid lotion bar that's great for healing rough patches. Here's a link to the plain one (unscented), but I think I have a Lavender one and a Lemongrass one that aren't listed.

You can also just use plain oils on your hands...like coconut oil.

Something I do now and then is soak my hands in warm water (or after a shower or bath), then dry them mostly, but not all the way. When they're still damp, just rub rub rub the skin (with your other hand) and it helps take off any old dead built up skin off.

Since I've gone back to work where I'm expected (and happy) to wear make up (waitressing) - I've started taking my makeup off with coconut oil and I LOVE it! I didn't want to spend the money on the fancy stuff I used to buy and I read about using coconut oil as a moisturizer so I gave it a whirl as a makeup remover. It works SO well -even for eye makeup- without leaving a greasy feel or leaving my face too dry. I'm hooked as far as that goes but think that using it as a moisturizer might be too much. I'll try it though-we have tons of it!

I became a convert to Amlactin lotion after my dermatologist told me about it. I love my soft and uncallused feet! You might try it on your hands...it's incredible. I use it all over and my skin has never been better.

Neutrogena hand cream works quite well, particularly if you wash your hands frequently. My friend's dad is a physician and highly recommends it.

I use Africa's Best Herbal Oil from head to toe. I love this stuff!

http://www.amazon.com/Africas-Best-H...est+herbal+oil

I was getting it at Dollar General, but they are not carrying it at my local store any longer, so when I run out I will have to order it online.

I've been using something called Bee Bar Lotion although it is not really a lotion. It looks like a bar of soap and has beeswax, almond oil, shea butter, lanolin, jojoba, cocoa butter and vitamin E. You warm the bar a couple seconds in your hands (because beeswax is a solid) and rub it into your skin. It works wonders on my cracked, rough heels and I rub the extra I get on my hands from using it all over my hands and it works so well. It is made by a company in Washington state. I got it from Amazon but I'm sure you can get it other places too. By the way, it smells great to - kind of honey-beewaxy if you know what I mean. I like the vanilla scented one. A bar lasts for a long time and comes in a nice tin.

I was going to suggest coconut oil. I have been using it a year now every night after my shower and in the morning I put it on my face. With scrubbing my hands and the coconut oil, they look pretty good. Now my feet, the only thing that works is Aquafor and socks every night.

Pink Dawn hand renewal for dishes, and diluted with water in liquid soap dispensers works to heal my hands when they crack and bleed.

I'm curious about this one, too.

When I'm lazy I end up with calluses and broken nails (which is 90% of the time lol)
On the other hand (hehe), when I'm diligent about ALWAYS wearing gloves, doing Satin Hands-type hand treatments, going to bed with beeswax hand cream, etc. I have "girly" hands.
From my experience it has nothing whatsoever to do with how hard I work my hands but rather how carefully I treat them.

Mink oil.Nothing better for rough dry cracked skin.I milked cows for years,constantly wet hands,trapping in my spare time.I'd rub my hands on the mink pelts as they were drying and found some mink oil made for softening leather.I had hands as soft and smooth as a baby's butt.And I'm definitely not a girl.

I need to take better care of my hands, too. I actually try to hide them when we take Mom to bingo and sit near ladies with nicely manicured hands. I'm sure they go home saying 'Did you see her hands??' I do know that for cracks that occur on your finger tips, the easiest and fastest way to cure them and ease the pain is to use Ch..stick lip balm. Not just lipbalm, but for some reason this smeared into the cracks helps them heal right up. Used to show this to the chemo patients in the clinic where I worked. Nothing that was prescribed worked, but this did. I keep one tube just for this in my bathroom. Bet it would work for those cracks in heels, too.

I also swear by Amlactin but also use A & D diaper rash ointment. It really helps on my feet. I put a towel down on the bedsheet on the nights I use the A & D on my feet.

I work my hands doing a diversity of tasks daily and have natural long nails, too. Although I appreciate having very strong hands that others find attractive (I was just looking at them wondering what is so attractive about hands?!). I break things with my hands on accident and can open jars most women can't, so have a very strong grip. I am small boned so my hands are a bit smaller, with slender fingers.

How do I keep them soft & moist? I rub Comfrey Oil or Comfrey Coconut Salve onto my hands regularly. When working in the garden, doing dishes, or any dirty job, I wear gloves. Padded gloves keeps me from developing calluses, too.

For the cracks that get on the ends of my fingers (everything I touch seems to stick inside of them and hurts like crazy) I put Carmex on them. And put olive oil on my hands after I'm done getting them wet for the night.

My Comfrey Oil is made from infusing Comfrey w/Olive Oil. I had forgotten to write that! Olive Oil is great!

Proverbs 31:10-31

New International Version (NIV)

Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character

10 [a]A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
Caitedid and chewie like this.

I am male and have a bad hand, (long incisions down the inside and outside of my fingers, joints removed). They crack, blister and callous. I use vitamin E oil and bag balm as needed. Rubbed in well. I have to wear a glove on that hand all the time outdoors (very thin, almost parchment skin on finger tips from blood flow problems, cuticle detachment)....James

Crisco overnight and scrub the wrinkles with a veggie brush in the morning then go out and get them dirty again! Don't know where I heard that from, must have been my grandma.

Wow, so many different lotions and potions to keep those hands looking good. I cant believe no one has offered the real solution yet! What the OP really needs is a handyman to take care of all those chores that are damaging the delicate skin on her hands in the first place. She should be able to pick up some nice young fella hanging out at the local building store who is looking for work, and is willing to work very cheap.
