Food Lion in my area has them $0.49/lb with $35 purchase, limit 1. Bi-Lo has them $0.59/lb with $35 purchase and they will price-match any ad. And then of course there's Walmart which will pricematch as well, so I think I will be getting at least 2 turkeys this week I always hold off on stuff I know I'm going to need to restock during Oct/Nov so that I can use it to make up the $35 - toilet paper, hair color, napkins, vinegar, baking soda, feminine products, etc. - stuff that doesn't go bad and that I will need eventually.

Harris Teeter has them for .49/lb with a 40 dollar purchase. I too have to make some more room in the freezer. If I can buy gift cards and have that count as my 40.00 I will do so.

DH likes a turkey dinner on father's day. So I want to get one for then. I also want to spend new years day when I am off of work removing the breast from a turkey or two and canning it. Then I will roast the rest of the turkey, pick it over, make stock and then can up turkey and broth.

I was pricing them last night in my area... $120/bird. They sell out quick. In Texas, goodness, on the hoof the bird will cost you $30. I think the local grassfed where we were sold them processed for $60, but at the time, we couldn't swing that.

You know, actually, there *is* a livestock sale this weekend, the usual birds, bunnies, etc. I am half seriously contemplating leaving the kid and the husband home and buying a couple ducks or a turkey and processing him in the garage. If I did drakes or muscovies... I could keep them penned for a couple weeks to make sure they weren't medicated...

Stoppit, HT. You're going to make the neighbors think I'm a loon. LOL
Ouch! That's some spendy bird! My last year's bird was $56, and it was in the 16-20 pound range. And I know for certain that they're pastured; I drive past their farm every week or so. I'm sure this year's bird will be more, since we were in the drought and they grow their own feed; but I'll still do it since it beats pork roast. You can bet I'll use every single scrap of it, too. I'd enjoy doing duck too, but that'd mean doing at least three to feed us. And lots of sides. I don't mind processing my own birds. It's not my idea of a great day, but if that means avoiding a grocery turkey, I'd do it.

If you do the ducks, make the stuffing with quackers. Err, crackers.

I found our natural grocery is selling fresh free range birds, additive/solution free, for 1.50/lb. I am very interested. Working on convincing the DH.

Really, $25 for a less-toxic bird is fine with me. He's balking a bit, but it's either this or I'm roasting a couple chickens. I could actually use the entire bird if it weren't full of toxins and that plastic/freezer taste.

Our local store has them for about $1.49 a pound which really disgusts me and underscores the reason we do not shop locally. I just found out tonight that I can get a turkey for 19 cents a pound, if I buy $25 worth of groceries first, which shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as they were things we needed anyway.

$.48 lb here right now. We get five every year at this time when they go on sale. Three will be roasted in the oven over the course of the winter and two will be smoked on the bbq next summer.

They're still .49 a lb this week at the local supermarket. I've bought 3 already and plan to get a couple more, plus dh will get one from work for Thanksgiving.

Publix here had them on sale (one day only) for 37 cents a lb. No minimum purchase and a limit of 2. I bought 2 and dd bought 2. I got 2 at FL the week before so we are stocked on turkey for the year. I like to cook one once a month all year if I have them. This year though I want to can some turkey soup so one bird will go for that.......soon as I find some more jars.

Yesterday, 47 cents a pound with a coupon and $25 purchase at Cub in Brainerd. Limit One but it sure looked like you could make more than one trip.

Turkes and pies are on sale before Thanksgiving, hams before Christmas, lamb never (darn). After the holidays candy is half price.

I use the bones in the leg quarters to make stock for soup.

I might get more meat off the turkeys than I do off the leg quarters, but turkeys take longer to cook and we prefer the dark meat anyway

Wal-Mart price matched turkeys at .28 cents a pound today. I just couldn't pass that up. I got a 12-pounder for $3.44! They price matched celery at .69 cents a bunch, a 3-pound bag of onions for .69 the bag and I did not have to purchase any additional amount, i.e. $25 or more.

For those of you who live in or near Erie, PA Erie County Market posts their flyers online so you can print it off and price match at Wal-Mart if you like.
