Sometimes you really DO want the item and need to know if they still have it.
Me too, now I feel bad. LOL

If you just DEPOSIT them, not much happens
If you deposit or CASH them and spend the money, then when the check BOUNCES a day or two later YOU are responsible for the money

Check with your bank. My old bank charged a $30 fee if the check you deposited bounced. I used to take the tenant's deposit check and first few months rent checks to the bank they were drawn on until there was a good history.

I have never bought anything on Craigslist, but have sold some things.

What exactly is suspect about asking if you still have the item?

When we sold things, we would have people say they wanted the item, and would be there at a certain time. In my mind, I might be sure they were coming, but they haven't actually seen the item, and until the money is in my hands and the item is gone, it's still kinda for sale.

So, should someone email to ask if I still have the item, I would tell them someone is coming, but if the deal falls through, I'll call them.

Maybe I'm just not understanding this --

I've never sold anything by mail, though.

The reason these things are suspect is the wording. Let's say you are selling eggs. Nobody real would ask if you still have your item. They would ask if you still have eggs.

AWWWW... I get it now. Of course, if you were interested for real you would ask about the specific item.

I see what you are saying. Egss, yes, but for something else, I can almost see myself asking if the item is available.

I'll have to keep that in mind.

I sent an email a couple weeks ago to ask if a person still had a rabbit in which I was interested. Said they sold it but the ad was still up. Not everyone removes their ad promptly which causes many people to ask if --- is still available.

I can see not responding if they don't ask for the item by name though.
