Well, duh!! Do I feel foolish!! You're all talking about St. John instead of 1st. 2nd & 3rd John.

I just read St. John chapter 17; and I totally agree. This is the Lord's prayer! Thank you all so much.

Many years ago I "claimed" a verse: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved AND THY HOUSEHOLD.

Bear with me--God did not exactly write that verse to me. But when I read it, I started to pray for God to save my entire family. Some are saved today. Not all.

But when really bad stuff happens, or some make what I believe to be really stupid or sinful choices, I just pray for that verse to be true. That somehow, someway, God knows exactly what path each in my family NEEDS in order for them to come to saving faith. In His love He may allow them enough rope not to hang themselves, but to get tangled up enough to cry out to Him.

And that gives more peace than I can explain.

In general, it is a way for a man to live his life. Starting with verse one. Although, one MUST be able to tell the difference between admonishment and judgement. It (to me) broadly teaches (in verses 1-14) humility and basically to check yourself before condemning another Christian. I believe the key word in this section of the chapter to be the word brother. As in fellow Christian, not fellow man.

Verses 15-29, to me, are simply cautionary verses. Basically saying to educate yourself in the ways of the Lord and to be spiritually sensitive to his urgings. Especially verses 20-23.

That's just what I take from it.

My favorite is James 1:5-6

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

There are so many wonderful verses here.
Some I know well or by heart others I have vague memories of.
I am enjoying looking them up and rereading them.

1 Corinthians 13 4-7

Love is patient, love is kind....

I'm sure everyone is familiar with it, may have already posted it, I didn't read thread yet. It's always been my personal favorite. :-)
