I have to say that I am always quite shocked at the sense of entitlement and lack of consideration amonst so many people today. And not just the young. The expectations are way beyond what most people can contribute to someone else's life. I guess it is something that I will not get used to.

My best friend just told me a story about manneres. She is quite the Texas pistol!

She belongs to a quilting group and the ladies have been great friends for years. One of the ladies is a bragger but they love her and just tease or ignore her when she gets going. Her daughter was married last September. The quilters made her a beautiful wedding quilt for her bridal shower and those who went to the wedding also gave wedding gifts. Everything on the registry list was well over $200 so some went in together. Anyways just recently Mom was bragging about the cost of the wedding, the honeymoon to Europe and all the nice things they brought back and the fact that they are buying a house and are so excited about furnishing it all new. My friend reached into her purse and pulled out a pack of stamps. She handed it to the Mom and said "Now I understand why they could not send out thank you cards so I hope these stamps will ease their financial burden". Well everyone just burst out laughing and to her great credit so did the Mom. But she was also embarrassed.

emdeengee, you might be surprised at how NOT writing a thank you note has become the "norm" these days. I've made quilted baby blankets three times now for showers and have yet to receive one thank you note.

It does continue to surprise me. I am so sorry that those who received your wonderful gifts did not thank you. I would have been delirious with joy and been on the phone and written cards. Probably baked you cookies - which - given my baking history - would not have been very good but it would make me feel good to do this to show my appreciation.

I went to a baby shower last Saturday where we all addressed our own thank you card envelopes as we came in the door. I thought it was a little tacky but on the practical side the couple did not have everyone's address so maybe it will make sure the cards actually get sent out.

Me, too! I wanted so bad to write: "same address as on invitation" but I restrained myself! (Restraining myself is harder than one would think-LOL)

Gcpete and I were married in 2000 my mother new I was struggling to get thethank yous out in a respectable amount of time she called everyday to remind me how important they were. Last June my brother in law got married. They were handing out thank yous at my in laws church at Easter I guess Google doesn't have the addresses of little old ladies who have had the same housefor 70 years...on the topic of showers when I was a kid it was all about helping people get started and you had punch and sheet cake now its about accumulating the best stuff... because baby will know if its not name brand the one shower I had was for baby 3 it was all about having fun and instead of gifts we collected baby stuff for a home where unwed moms can stay....the best gift of all was dropping off the car load of goodies. -theresa

Wow that is a great idea and a kind and gentle thought.

Here is a picture of the cake. She did a good job on the look, but I have to say, I would not pay $150 for it. Maybe I'm just cheap but that's a lot of money for a cake that size. Also, the cake itself was overcooked. The top was a little over done. The bottom was pretty dark.

I do not know if my the MTB payed for it or not. I didn't ask.

I'd just get her a real diaper courtesy of the McDonald's parking lot.

(and I wouldn't expect a discount. This has 'big salad' written all over it.)
