Reminded me, my parents would tear up a slice of bread in a cup and pour milk on it. That was another one I didnt get the point of. Just looked and tasted like this soggy glop to me. |
I eat oatmeal almost every morning. Add enough milk to make it kinda soupy add half of a small can of fruit cocktail or sliced peaches. Good stuff!! I love home grown maters anyway I can get them, fresh sliced/bitten with a pinch of sea salt is my fave.

Raw oatmeal . Night before I put 3/4 cup oatmeal , 3/4 cup almond milk , stevia , vanilla and nutmeg in a bowl . Just take it out in the morning and eat it . No cooking . Kind of tastes like rice pudding .

Can't wait for that first Tomato sandwich, just home-made honey whole wheat bread with Dukes Mayo and as much fresh slice vine ripe tomato slices along with plenty of salt and pepper as I can stand. :happy2:

I hate oatmeal and fresh tomatoes. I think one of my sons will eat tomatoes and one of them is like me and will eat a very small amount in a salad or paper thin on a sandwich.
Oatmeal can't be made good. It just looks, smells and feels awful. No getting around that. I do eat it when I am sick because it is one of those foods that taste the same going either direction. I vote no oatmeal EVER |
House rules - no rice, no oatmeal.
If you want breakfast, pull up a chair and help yourself to bacon, scrambled eggs, sliced garden tomatoes, white gravy, biscuits, and cinnamon buns. |
Scotch Oatmeal: Cook steel cut oats so it's moist but not runny, add a big pat of butter to your bowl of it and stir in a raw egg so the egg cooks onto the grains. Sprinkle a little crunchy sea salt on the top and enjoy. I'm lactose intolerant.

Wellllll oatmeal....I like oatmeal where you can chew it..not wallpaper paste. Best instant oatmeal I ever got a hold of was a Scotch brand..McCann's. Having said that, I have a recipe for a snack cake that is made with a lot of oatmeal. Those who want the fiber advantage of oatmeal could just make a batch of oatmeal muffins once a week and try to dole them out one a day for breakfast.
I make a killer bread that includes oatmeal and pecan meal as well as honey, butter, an egg, white and whole wheat flours..... |
I cook my oatmeal the way my Mom did - in milk. Just substitute milk for water at a two to one ratio ( 2 cups of milk to 1 cup of oatmeal). Cook over med heat stirring constantly. Serve with brown sugar and raisins. The oatmeal itself is creamy so you don't need to mush it out by adding more milk which to me is just soupy. No one I know who has disliked oatmeal has disliked this oatmeal.

I thought I was about the only person in the world who hated raw tomatoes! Give me salsa, marinara sauce, etc. and I am happy but not raw.
|
I make Old Fashioned Quaker Oats in the microwave: 1/2 cup oats & 1 cup water at 3/4 power for 4 minutes. Stir in a squirt of Cary's Sugar Free syrup, a shot of skim milk and some walnut pieces. Yum!
|
I love oatmeal. and grits. and cream of wheat. and grape nuts. yum.
|
I Love oatmeal for breakfast. My favorite way is with a little butter, raisins, brown sugar & a little milk, But cinnamon or fruit added & I like that too.
|
.............Oatmeal is OK , but , I could live entirely off of Creme o'Wheat ! Sweetened with Pink Stuff , real butter and a little milk ! , fordy:clap:
|
I'm not an Oatmeal fan but I love Farina (cream of wheat). I'm not sure what pink stuff is Fordy but I love lots of butter and a little brown sugar, mostly just butter. I make my Farina with whole milk, no water.

Fresh tomatoes from the garden is one of the things that makes summer tolerable in Texas. Literally one of the things to live for. Comparing these treasures to oatmeal (blech) is almost criminal.
I did however have some oatmeal once that didn't make me want to think I had just puked in my mouth. From Cracker Barrel; I think they make it on weekends only. But I only had one bite - that was enough. |
Here's what you do:
Take half of a handful of pecans and put them in a pan in a 375-degree oven. Then, take half a handful of dried cherries and throw them in a sauce pot. Put one cup of old fashioned oats on top of the dried cherries, followed by one cup of water (you want the resulting oatmeal to be thick, if you're a normal person.). Bring it to a boil, then let it simmer for 5 or so minutes. After the pecans have roasted for 10 or so minutes, take them out and chop them a little. Stir them into the sauce pot of oatmeal. Spoon that mix into a serving bowl, drizzle some of Max Lown's maple syrup on top of the whole thing. Sprinkle on a wee bit of kosher salt and it's ready to eat. You could use dried apricots, chopped a bit, instead of the dried cherries. But, don't use raisins or you will go, "Blech! Blech! Blech!" |
While oatmeal isn't my favorite food, I have it for breakfast fairly often. I like it with honey. I also sometimes add a bit of granola cereal to the cooked oatmeal. It add a little crunch.
