grandma12703 04/27/12 12:33 PM

I love em and I also like to take a piece of bologna with a scoop of mashed potatoes and then a little cheese on top, salt and pepper, and bake until the bologna starts to curl and the cheese melts...mexican hats. Love em!

Gregg Alexander 04/27/12 12:43 PM

I like bologna any way I can get it, love it fried

Backfourty,MI. 04/27/12 12:51 PM

Gosh, I'd forgot all about fried bologna sandwiches! I bet it's been over 35 years since I had one of those! Now I'll have to get some bologna & make one to see if I still like them. I do Love bologna.

emdeengee 04/27/12 01:05 PM

I used to love bologna when I was a kid. Since I have been a vegetarian for 30 years I have done without. A couple of years ago when we were in the big city I bought Yves Veggie Bologna just to try. It was excellent. So good in fact that all the carnivores in my family kept eating my bologna which has a first name - Y- v- e.

breestephens 04/27/12 01:08 PM

Yum Put a fried egg on there with the bologna and cheese. Oh and slather it with mayonnaise. Food fit for a Queen.

nappy 04/27/12 01:46 PM

My kids when young would eat fried baloney sandwiches. Not me tho. A Michigan brand Kowalski garlic baloney is tasty without being fried.

Poor man's eggs benedict. Good stuff.

I came across this thread a long time ago while searching for a recipe. This is what I found. It is funny plus it has lots of people's idea of the perfect bologna sandwich. Twelve pages. You might get some ideas too. :) I go back to it every now and then to read the latest.

Cooks.com - Recipe - Bologna Sandwich

When my oldest son was in first grade, the teacher had the class turn in their favorite recipes for a "cookbook" for the parents. My son's recipe looked a lot like the original post.

bluesky 04/27/12 03:24 PM

Yum!!!

soulsurvivor 04/27/12 03:38 PM

I'm supposed to be vegetarian, but really I'm not. Is that fried bologna I smell? Care to share? :p

dollmaker 04/27/12 04:22 PM

That's the only way I would eat it. Wouldn't touch lunchmeat without heating it to 165 F with a ten foot pole.

WolfWalksSoftly 04/27/12 04:27 PM

Bologna used to be cheap..even the good all beef kind. But Noooooooo, not since everyone has jumped on the Fried Bologna Bandwagon..lol

Trixie 04/27/12 06:56 PM

I was once reading one of the 'A is for ______' mysteries and the female detective was talking with a man while he was making a fried bologna sandwich. She was describing, in detail, how he fried it and it curled up on the edge, etc., etc. When he finished, she said, "I'll give you $40 for that sandwich."

My husband loves them - I'm not too much on bologna - but it is food for the gods as far as he is concerned. I will not mention this thread to him, though, he would probably drive into town for bologna - and it's 11 miles.

They have been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I cut the circle into pizza slices and fry them that way. Then slice an onion with it. On white bread with ketchup. They are the best.

jwal10 04/27/12 07:19 PM

I cut 3 1-1/2" slits around the outside edge to keep the bologna flat when I fry it, an egg well done, toast the bread. A little mustard for extra flavor....James

Ruby 04/27/12 07:23 PM

My husband likes fried bologna but not me. I want mine straight out of the package with white brean slathered with plain mustard with a slice of american chese and several layers of potato chips.

Now I'm hungry again and I just eat dinner about 3 hours ago.

Miss Kay 04/27/12 07:31 PM

Oh you had to go there. Where's my car keys!

I love mine on wheat toast with a slice of fresh tomato and some cheese and mayo. Oh my, I don't think money can buy anything better than that.

Roadking 04/27/12 08:10 PM

Love it, always have.
BUT..........
to truly enjoy it, you need a side of fried peperoni as an appetizer, side dish.
Heaven!...but I hear my arteries hardening as I type.

Matt

Just looked...out of bologna! UGH!!!

Ate fried balogna sandwiches since I was a kid. Forgot about them for a long time. Then a few years ago I introduced my wife to them. She wrinkled up her nose until she tried one! Now we both eat them regularly.

Susan 04/27/12 10:21 PM

You know, I really don't care for plain bologna. But, I Love Fried Bologna.
DSW and I were just talking about Fried Bologna Sandwiches, lat night.
And I had not been on these Forums since yesterday morning.
It has been more than 35 years, since I had one also.

celina 04/28/12 08:07 AM

fried, with mustard and slice of cheese and some lettuce on white toast...YUMMY.....but you are right, i can get steak cheaper than some of the bologna now...geez..

jwal10 04/28/12 08:37 AM

One slice FRESH wonder white bread and a slice of Oscar Mayer bologna, folded in half, with a handful of Blue Bell barbeque potato chips and a grape Crush. Little brother could eat half a pound and 1/s a loaf....James

I loved fried bologna as a kid (my mom would make little slits around the edge to keep them from curling - she was a good mom :) ) but I've also been a vegetarian for over 30 yrs, so.....

I like the veggie bologna - but have you tried frying it? It just does not work.

wanda1950 04/28/12 01:29 PM

Love it--must be fried brown. Best on regular white bread with mayo. A homegrown tomato makes it even better.

Mama used to fry it for breakfast & it's super that way with runny eggs & biscuits. Also a baloney & biscuit.

Don't know if it's just a southern thing but some places sell a sandwich of fried baloney & cheese on a hamburger bun. Delicious!

Have you tried barbecued baloney?? It's delicious, too.

Lada 04/28/12 02:22 PM

I've got to admit, lately I have been flat out rejecting anything healthy, and especially wheat bread and sliced turkey or ham sandwiches. I've been doing well keeping myself away from white bread, bologna and american not-cheese but dang. This thread will force me to the dark side yet.

My kids don't even know what a fried bologna sandwich is. But we're moving in the next few weeks, maybe it's time to introduce them since we're short on time and looking for quick suppers and all.... :teehee:

pheasantplucker 04/30/12 06:41 PM

I fry mine in butter. Thick sliced, with a couple of pieces of onion in there. Cut little slits on the outside of the piece of bologna so it doesn't curl too bad. flip it. Put a piece of hot pepper jack cheese on it, till it starts to melt. This goes on a bun that has been toasted with butter...then you gotta put some honey mustard on that bad boy...very good.

Just Little Me 04/30/12 11:03 PM

I went to the store after reading this and got a stick of bologna. Brought it home and made nice thick slices, fried them, added onion, tomatoe, and lettuce.
