I have learned to ask for a story instead of cash, If they say I cant remember anything I prompt with "How did you get your first car."
I once sat along the road in Utah for 4 hours listening to a old guys stories
. By the time it broke up we had 2 couples on motorcycles one in a RV and a state trooper .

If you re going to allow the Lord to lead you to be a giving person you must also allow the Lord to lead you to allow others to be grateful for your giving. Kind of like you cannot be a good friend unless you allow the other person to be a friend to you. I learned this very late in life...but I did learn it!

Yes, actually that was two good deeds. One was helping and the other was allowing them to express their gratitude with money.

I admit there would be a few people who would think that they had "paid" you for your effort but most are quite aware that that what they paid was simply a token, that it was the only way they had to thank you. Even if they were the first sort, it was still an act of charity, just making them feel less obligated even if they were less than gracious in receiving.

You done good.........

Yesterday I stopped at the grocery store to pick up a few things. There were only two of us in line. The lady ahead of me seemed to be having a conversation about milk.
“Apparently you can have 2% or 1/2%, but not whole milk.” The clerk told her. So, she takes the two gallons of whole milk back to the dairy and returns with 1/%. Now, I realize she is using the Bridge card (food stamps). Further conversation about how she is over and the potatoes put her over. Blah Blah. I see the desperation, the frustration, and this mother is being polite and dignified. $8. 96. So, I pull a 20 out of my purse, hold it out to the cashier and say, “Will this fix it?” After thank yous and a hug, all was well. I been there, ya see.
