Didnt they ban it after that Reefer Madness movie? Oh wait guess that was different potted product....
Just think of processed meat in a can compared to real meat as something like Velveeta is to real cheese and you wont be far off. Pink slime and wood pulp and plenty of flavor enhancing chemicals.

Glad it's not just me. I got some recently also, found it inedible, and also remember it being very different. I used to eat it all the time for lunch when I was a kid.

In the 60's I used to love Kraft American cheese in the 2 or 3 Lb cardboard blue box. I don't see it anymore. Plenty of Velveta being sold though. I wonder if Kraft American tasted the same when they sold it in wooden boxes? I'd like to have one of them boxes for my mantel.

It's easy to make deviled ham with some leftover ham & a food processor. Use about 2 cups ham. Add 1/2 cup or so of mayo, a squirt or two of Dijon mustard and a shot of Tabasco. Process till it's a texture you like.
We all like this but them we all like spam, too & vienna sausages & bologna (fried especially)--guess we're just a bunch of rednecks around here.

I just opened the can and it has the consistency of a cheap dog food and, to be honest, it smelled a little like dog food. I took a dab on a knife and tried it and spit it out. I wonder if the outside cats will eat it!
I find it rather sad that products that were good once are not that way any more.

I'm sorry to say their chicken spread has changed, too. I used to consider it a treat, but the last time I ate it, (about a year ago), the mixture was greasy and had an odd taste.

Yep., My Mom, 90 years old, said she used to love lard sandwiches and pickled pigs feet. Has tried both in the past few years and says YUCK. I don't think we'll attempt the ham now that you've done it! I do make my own ham salad as others do. You could even can it in small jars for later use.

I used to like deviled ham too but not any more. I also liked the canned oil sausages. I bought a can of those a couple of years ago and I spit the first (and last) bite out. They're now made with chicken and taste horrible.

My parent told us that when there was no butter for their bread for breakfast, they used lard. If they were lucky there was some bacon grease.

Alright, it seems like everybody liked it as a kid and nobody likes it now because tastes change. But, everybody has something they used to like and still do, so tastes don't change that much. I'm betting the Underwear Devil's Spam is what changed.
When I was a kid we used to stick a little can of it in a pocket and go on hikes. Opened it with a P38 and ate it with a knife blade or stick. Yum. But I haven't tried it in 30 years or so. For some reason, some kids used to call it cat meat. And they ate it anyway.

I havent eaten it in years but now I will have to buy some and check it out...I loved that stuff too as a kid. I still like spam and vienna sausages and potted meat so maybe my tastes just never "matured"!!
A favorite snack in country was always sardines, Spam, or Vienna Sausages on an MRE cracker with some squeeze cheese and Tobasco....I still like to fix that once and awhile.

I still like Spam. In very limited quantities. Fried Spam is awesome.
My mom used to love those vienna sausages. The first one tasted okay, but I could never manage to eat more than one. My daughter likes them.
When she was little (she's 16 now) we used to buy these toddler-food "chicken sticks" that looked just like the viennas and she ate them up like candy. Asked us for "sticka-sticks." I wonder if they still make them. I tried one and they were even worse than the real viennas.
My default lunch most days is tuna salad made with mayo & relish, or if I happen to have it, Kraft sandwich spread. I like celery in it too, or cucumber, but am not always ambitious enough.

Our tastes change as we age.

Now, I'm the other way around. I still love Spam once in awhile. Vienna sausages are okay too. But not so much.
I love to slice Spam thin, the wide way, to fit an English muffin. Fry the Spam and hard fry an egg. On an English muffin, it makes a great breakfast sandwich. Cheap too.
My DSW likes them as well.
ETA......Ooops forgot about the Deviled Ham. We like it with cream cheese, especially the flavored kind, on Ritz crackers, with Swiss cheese too. That Deviled ham is 'almost' right in there with Braunsweiger, on Ritz crackers.

Come on,we all KNOW companies are cutting costs to maximise profits,it isn't y'alls taste buds,it is something cheaper was found to put in the product.
Same with repackaging products, funny how repackaging seems to coincide with decreasing portion size...almost like the company was hoping you wouldn't notice.
Profits is ALL that matters to companies,a good product isn't really necessary, there are enough idiots who will keep buying their slop.

Actually sardines are now one of few ways to get actual wild caught ocean fish in many areas. Most of fish available in stores is farm raised in SE Asia, basically fed dog food. Dont expect even sardines to be wild caught for lot longer.
If there is a way to cheapen and debase something for tiny bit more profit.... Screw your neighbor over for a buck, its the American way.

I always thought that it reminded me of some Spam and lard put into a blender. Put enough pickles and lettuce on it and I guess it might be enough to choke it down though.
I'll eat Spam though. Cut thin and fried crisp, maybe with a little BBQ sauce on it.

Yes! I spray the pan with butter Pam, slice some turkey Spam, give the top of the slices a quick shot of the Pam again, then sprinkle Cavender's Greek Seasoning on top, and quickly brown both sides. SOOO good! BTW, it is lower in fat and sodium than Spam Lite, and it is 100% white turkey meat - no other meat fillers.

I was stationed in Mongolia for a year and most of the food there is imported from China or Russia so you never really knew what kind of beasties you were ingesting but we were eating sardines for lunch one time and when I opened the can of Russian sardines in among the sardines was some sort of creature that looked like a snake. Freaked me out so bad I couldnt eat them for months.
Almost all of the shrimp you get now days is farm raised in the far east and who knows what conditions they are raised in. I do miss taking our fishing boat out in SE Alaska and catching our own.

I like to put spam in scalloped potatoes. Never could stomach sardines.
