Your boys have female friends? Stuck to their shoe from visiting them. Came off elsewhere in the house and somebody kicked it to the middle of the floor while walking through last night.
Or a friendly ghost

Are you sure you didn't have some visitors last night, while you were sleeping?

The dogs would have lost their minds barking, and that would have woken me. They even bark when the boys come home at night.
I think DH must have tracked it home from work, and it stayed stuck to the bottom of his shoe until he walked through the kitchen on his way out.
Or I had a visitor the dogs didn't bark at.

I was going to suggest little green men, but all the pictures I've seen of them they don't have any hair.

Are your sons teenagers, Tracy? The teen girls here all use them in place of barrettes, so I was going to say maybe it came in with one of your sons. On a shoe, or some other article of clothing.
My girls wear them, and I keep finding bobby pins all over the house. Even in the laundry pile.

Do you have mice? I had a mouse push out an old steak knife behind the stove.

Are things like a message from a loved one that has passed telling us they are thinking about us and they are all right. Do you beleive in messages from loved ones?
I knew a girl that buried her Grandpa with his handkercheif in his pocket. When they got home, the handkercheif was on her bed pillow ...... So weird.

That bobby pin could have stuck to anything.
Did you sit your groceries down anywhere, before putting them in the car?
Or maybe it stuck to the bottom of a book from the library? Or stuck to an envelope from the mailman?
Most likely, it was stuck on the bottom of a shoe...but it could have been anything.

You'd have to know my DH to know how funny that is.
I'll accept I might have a ghost

Tracy, I sometimes get "appearance out of nowhere" stuff like that, when it happens I don't try to figure it out, I just consider it a gift or message from ' somewhere'. Maybe a little mouse left it for you.
Bobbypin relates to the ears - have you noticed any ear/throat/sinus health problems or hearing related difficulties in anyone in your family in recent days?

Tracy, that's very ironic because something really weird happened to me Tuesday morning.
I locked up my classroom and we had no custodians Monday night. When I unlocked my classroom door Tuesday morning:
* the drinking faucet was going all by itself
* my document camera light was on
* 2 lids to tupperware containers I keep on an open shelf were on the floor right underneath the shelf, right next to each other, in an upright position.
No one else has a key to my classroom. It's very weird. Also on occasion I will smell wood smoke in my classroom.

Maybe someone is just saying hi from the other side.
I have things like that happen to me a lot. Explainable.

That's strange because yesterday, I threw away a whole bunch of bobby pins!
I guess that one went to live at your house.

I'm thinking mice.
Several years ago, we had this happen every day for a week. I'd get up and go to the kitchen and find something on the floor--candy wrappers when we'd not eaten candy for a while, or bits and pieces of this or that. Oh, and there was always a potato in the floor, even if I had picked it up the previous day.
Turns out we had a rat actually chew it's way inside the house under the kitchen sink. The little hole was down low and unless you leaned over sideways or crawled on the floor, you couldn't see it. The rat couldn't get the potato through the little hole. There weren't bite marks on the potato, so I guess the rat was rolling it around.
Whew. I was almost wondering if we had a potato ghost. LOL!

Do you have pack rats where you live? If you do, it'd be worthwhile to set a few traps and/or check around for a nest. They have a tendency to move shiny objects around (and steal them entirely).

Rats. They steal things, maybe they bring them back.
