JuliaAnn, My mother sings that song when we all get together. Would Jim and Jesse be the Wilburn Bros?

I am glad you enjoyed them. I thought for sure I would've seen someone post "Hard Row to Hoe" by the Tommy Webb Band. I know it really hits home with me and many farmers across the land.

Songs by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Del McCoury Band, Flatt & Scruggs

If you like Steeldrivers you might like Cross Canadian Ragweed.

I listen to bluegrass on Pandora.

BTW - Today's the day the music died.

Not exactly bluegrass, but more flat picking traditional guitar...Norman Blake...Fields of November or Whiskey Before Breakfast...I have a friend who knows him and every year or two has him come up and he puts on a private concert for about 18-20 people in their living room. I've been privileged to attend three times and I've seen him several times before that. Really nice fellow and pure talent.

I could have a new favorite song everyday and sometimes do just that, but the one I always come back to is this one where they couldn't possibly have squeezed more talent in that studio if they had tried:

Thankfully the link works. Sorry about that but this one video has always had a problem with being embedded.

I'd never heard this song, thank you for sharing, it was powerful. (It did make me think of haiku to bluegrass though.)

Two of my favorite bluegrass songs come from the Songcatcher movie track.
The first sung by Julie Miller is All My Tears
The second - Moonshiner with Allison Moorer

My favorite bluegrass songs are the original ones that my son writes! Lukas is 23 and in graduate school getting his Master's in Teaching degree, and plays the mandolin, banjo, harmonica, and guitar. (Not to mention the bari sax in jazz....but that's another story!) He just released an original CD, in which he plays all the parts of his songs (recorded himself playing one instrument, then another, harmonizing with himself, etc. and put it all together). Really good! To read about it, and listen to one of the songs, check out two entries on my blog: (you can even order it through PayPal!)

This group isn't well known but they're cutting edge in the combination of hip hop/rap/bluegrass sounds. I've never heard bluegrass played this way before. I'll post one of their instrumentals here that's basically lively bluegrass. Be advised that if you go on youtube to listen to their songs that some of those are not suitable language for young children, maybe not some adults either. I think this is the best bluegrass picking band I've ever heard anywhere. Not just this song but every song is unique and one of a kind.

and here's one of the songs:

In that vein (that of completely inappropriate for children and most adults) is the Gourds cover of Snoop Dog's Gin and Juice.

I'm not linking it but you can find it at YouTube easily enough. I hate the lyrics, but LOVE the concept of covering a rap song with a banjo.
