Essential oils?

I am thinking of purchasing essential oils on line for scent and tea tree oil too- anyone have any good experiences? with any company in particular?

MullersLaneFarm 01/11/12 09:50 PM

Essential oils at Appalachian Valley. Butch Owen (owner) is a bit higher priced, but worth every penny because of the high quality oils he produces and sells. He tests every single batch of essential oils they sell and they have to meet or exceed his standards.

If you will be using EO for medicinal reasons, Butch is the only one I trust. If you want them to scent soaps, lotions, et al, there are a number of places available online

I never use fragrance. People with asthma can have bad reactions from them, and they don't last as long as e.o. I get mine from camdengrey.com, and anandaapothecary.com

I love these guys! They have a store at the Minnesota Rennaisance Festival, really nice oils and incense.

Medicinally I actually sell through young living essential oils, very good quality!! I had heard so many great things about them from all I know, I became a consultant...do you have a particular medical issue you need oils for? These are theuraputic grade, not really for scents

We use Atlantic Spice for EO.... http://www.atlanticspice.com/

Just want to add to be careful with EO's and pets. Tee Tree oil is very toxic to dogs and I don't even know of a safe EO to use with cats. Just be careful with using them and store in a safe place :)

YL is one place I would not buy from ... see the QuackWatch report.

There is no such thing as theuraputic quality essential oils. It is just a marketing gimmick put out by Young Living. However, their oils are good quality.

You can use ti tree on dogs, but not on cats. Frankincense is real good for puncture wounds.

I'm a Young Living Dealer. I LOVE their oils. They are more expensive than others, but their frequency is much higher, and they work which is what counts. You can buy direct from the company, or find a dealer near you. If you plan on buying a lot of the oils over time, then I would suggest becoming a dealer yourself. It is much less expensive that way, plus you get points on your purchase orders that can be used for merchandise.

I went to read the report and saw it was written by Stephen Barrett so I immediately stopped. Based on personal experience years ago, I view him as the quack (just my opinion only). I don't know anything about YL and didn't read the long article. I am skeptical with anything Barrett says or writes.

Hope you continue to look into essential oils as opposed to "scents/perfumes" as so many people have reactions. Good luck to you!

I may check out the local "organic food store" this weekend- just to pick up something like orange or lemon oil- I want to jsut add a drip or 2 to my plain liquid soap dispenser- I make our own " Foaming Soap" since it is cheap and wanted to scent it- right now all I have is Tea Tree- which is good but love citrus scents:)~

Quack watch is not what I personally consider a reputable website. I rely on many things they say not to, and have wonderful results compared to the big business pharmaceuticals. They just have foolish ideas. Pharmaceuticals kill thousands of people a year in this nation while raping their wallets. Was avandia ever listed on quack watch? actos? thalidamide? TMJ surgery? chemo therapy? and how many people die from that in a year rather than the cancer it is supposed to treat?

I LOVE Young Living Oils!!
Maura, Big Dave's dog had a bad reaction, almost died and lost all memory from ingesting tea tree oil on a q-tip. :(

I have used Young Living oils before and was happy with them. I only used a few though.
Tea tree oil stinks to high heaven.

One of my boys when they were smaller was wallering in the grass and got his nether regions eaten up with chiggers. Nothing that we had on hand worked. Lavender oil is the only thing that stopped the itch. I was really impressed with the results.

Yes, I read and responded to that. Ti Tree oil in a shampoo is not the same as ingesting it straight. I put it in soap, but the amount in a bar of soap is less than a drop, and hopefully it doesn't get in the mouth.

mamaof3peas 01/13/12 11:05 PM

I love the lavender for so many things, stress, sleeplessness, my sons adhd, and it smells lovely as well. Young living essential oils is a great company, I am sure there have been things that people wrote negatively about them, but when something works, it works, I love the peppermint for sinus congestion but it needs to be sparingly. My son has asthma, a drop on his pillowcase helps his sinus stuff, but if he gets too much he sneezes and coughs,, but I have many others I want to try

MullersLaneFarm 01/14/12 02:28 AM

Everyone has their opinion. As for me, I prefer to use essential oils that are tested with Gas Chromatography and where I can receive the GC for the specific lot of oil I'm buying. I know the area where the plants were grown and how they were distilled.
