I'm glad for the dog you're taking care of him.

But if that dog did in fact break the leash (as it broke free on yours), wandered off and got lost, the rightful owners are grieving. The dog would be theirs, not yours.

I do hope you post with the animal shelter and others about this dog, so that if it really does belong to someone else, you help get it back to them.
