Everyone in NC ok?

I'm here on the SC border and the warnings just ended at 4 for us. We're under watch till 11 though. Radar showed a big storm right on top of us and the sirens were going off. I was on the phone with one dd and texting the other all the while younger dd was herding the other kids to the bathroom along with water and a tub of supplies. Dh is on the road and the storm looked like it is on the the same path as he is. So far he said its just rain. The sky sure did look weird for awhile there though.

We have been very fortunate.
Looking at the forecasts it showed us (and you) with the potential for 12 inches of rain with 15+ localized. I was freaking out. Freaking hard. As dry as it has been, my yard is like pavement. And so is everyone above us. The run off would have been a raging river.
But the rain is staying just to the west of us except for a few short showers.
That is just what we need. Nice soaking rains with a chanve for the ground to absorb in between.

But my friends and family in the deep mountains are getting pounded with heavy, heavy, heavy rains according to the radar.

Kannapolis is still under a tornado warning; it's stretching up to Salisbury

ginnie5 09/05/11 04:51 PM

rain didn't start here till after 3. Then it was slow and stead with a few heavy bursts. Just after dh left though the sirens started going off. Not doing a thing right now but there are more storms coming it looks like and we're under a watch till 11 tonight. Dd#2 is still petrified of storms and was on lifeguard duty. She said the only building around was the bathroom. I told her to get in there! Older dd was at college and called me to see if it was safe for her to drive to work. My garden has appreciated the rain but my blood pressure does NOT need the warnings!

We had a sudden storm yesterday afternoon that did some damage to 2 of our neighbors homes and took some wood off a barn across from us. It started in Green County as a tornado warning and was packing some heavy wind for us here in Marion County. We got about 4" of rain in an hour of heavy downpour but the ground soaked up most of it.

Hope everyone is ok and doesn't have any flooding or wind damage. Stay safe.

Just a few sprinkles here, but Sunny overall.

We got our share from Irene, so hopefully Lee will stay to the West

Hi! We're fine! I had the weather radio on during dinner and there was a tornado NE of Monroe. We're SE of Monroe, but had our ears on! I even cleaned some things out of the closet we use as a "bomb shelter" just in case. We only got a little bit of rain and now it's quiet outside. But the radar looks like it will be an exciting night.

Thanks for checking on me! Hope everyone else in NC and surrounding areas is ok!

ginnie5 09/05/11 08:56 PM

all good here!

Jokarva 09/05/11 08:59 PM

It has poured all day here. Good thing about being up in the mountains, not so much chance for flooding.

Stay safe everyone!

cmd1965 09/05/11 09:05 PM

No damage that I know of in this area; but it's still thundering, and the rain is supposed to continue tonite and tomorrow.

oz in SC V2.0 09/05/11 10:37 PM

Rained off and on up here,we didn't even know what was going on until a nephew down in SC contacted us...

It will be quite muddy out there tomorrow, but better than the possible alternatives.

LearningLife 09/05/11 11:58 PM

Fairly steady rain most of the day here with a few spurts of stronger downpours. The creek will be up for a bit as they're saying we'll get pretty much the same thing tomorrow. Other than dealing with the mud and frayed nerves (19 yr. old DS was driving home from Atlanta today), we're all fine here.

Energy Rebel 09/06/11 11:42 AM

Just a little wind and rain, pretty much gone now.

oz in SC V2.0 09/06/11 11:49 AM

Same here, rained a LOT early this morning,we bailed out about 40 gallons of water from the goldfish pond before it started raining and it is filled almost back up.

Alternating sunny and cloudy now.

ginnie5 09/06/11 12:16 PM

well no rain here today. Its windy and alternating sun and clouds. HUMID too! We're still under tornado watch though.

jlrbhjmnc 09/06/11 12:37 PM

Western foothills, eastern edge of the Linville Gorge - lots of rain, a little bit of breeze, no problems to speak of. Just wish we could send the same rain to the folks in Texas, etc.

Tarheel 09/06/11 04:09 PM

Stormy looking all day here but no rain ! Winds been up a little. Sure need a little rain.

ginnie5 09/06/11 04:36 PM

well since I posted we've had a few quick showers. Inlaws in middle of state at the Va border said they are under warnings though and its really stormy. I'll be glad when this is all gone!

TSYORK 09/06/11 04:37 PM

Lots of rain and some nasty storms here, but A-okay!

fellini123 09/06/11 09:23 PM

Central VA here, it rained HARD yesterday. It has been raining hard on and off all day today. We were gone yesterday and when we got home.......the basement was flooded!! And we are up on a hill but had about 2 inches of water in the basement. So we cleaned that up.
Today for some reason there is more rain but no flooding!! Thank goodness.
Oh and did I mention our driveway?? Probably not, becuase we dont have one anymore  Just a bunch of deep gulleys....Oh well it is supposed to rain another day then we will fix everything......
