You are quite right, sometimes things jump out of nowhere and can catch even the very best prepared off guard. Those were not the folks I was referring to. I was talking about the ones we all know and see around us... those who are living one paycheck away from bankruptcy from day one... never setting anything back for the bad times and then wondering "why me" when the smallest setback occurs.

I am sorry this is a hardship for you. Seems like an odd change to me, too. It doubles the payroll expenses.

People I work with got really upset when they changed our payday from Thursday to Friday this year. It has taken 15 years but they worked it now from Tuesday to Friday and changed from weekly to bi-weekly. I expect it to go to the following week in a couple years. That will allow them to "use" "my" money another week.

As for comments about auto pay. My bank charges you a fee if you write too many checks. I set up my auto pay to come out a few days AFTER my pay is due so that I have time to go to the bank and cover it if I dont' get paid on time.

Comments about not having a next egg...Sometimes they have to be spent and sometimes people just don't know how. We are encouraged to keep the economy moving by spending not saving. It is very easy for people to fall prey to that. I have six months saved at all times and could quickly stretch that to well over a year if I cut all the "extras" out but most people I know wouldn't have any idea how to do that.
