What kind of bibs?
If you are talking about the things that babies wear to keep food off of their clothes, I'd probably agree with the women folk of your house. You probably do look pretty stupid walking around your 'stead with one of those things on.

I wear them every day for six months a year while it's cold. I only wear them during the summer when I'm doing rough work.

Used to wear them a lot. Handy for when you need to scratch in certain places...my wife and kids complain about my suspenders so I doubt if they'd fly here nowadays.

Oil change / battery acid pair, Summer pair for Spring Fall and for Summer sawing and briars, Winter pair one size larger and insulated, extreme Winter pair of Carharts that will get handed down when I leave them behind.
Jim : try this; Wear jeans and they can keep a 2 way radio handy and fetch everything you need on projects that would have been handy in those pockets.
The real test of bib loyalty...do you wear them to town when you must run in for something?

I wear them everyday. It's strange to find me in a pair of blue jeans

I wear them a lot when I'm working around the place. They are comfortable and have plenty of pockets for tools and they hold up to this kind of work well.
This won't matter to some folks but there are only two brands I'm aware of that are still made in the USA, Pointer Brand and Round House. They are not sold locally in my area but they are easy enough to order off the 'net.

dear deaconjim,
I need to talk to the women in your family, especially the lady boss. bibs can be quite sexy... it's all in the point of view.
functional doesn't not always preclude fun...
As for the young ladies of the house, a good, well built dad in a set of bibs can have an extremely averse impact on young men coming to court, especially if the man in bibs has hold of a good size farm implement or weapon of any sort. The objection for a time period from young ladies comes from the embarrassment factor and I believe that hardship in this area only builds character, which young ladies need. During the time we had a teenage girl in our family, not only did the man of the house wear bibs about, but we put the younger brothers in bibs as well. Awesome at keeping down the riffraff .
My daughter, who is now 25, a physician and married, will see her dad now in the bibs and say "oh, my daddy is SO cute!"
my thoughts exactly!

Nope, I never wear Bibs. I grew up wearing Wrangler blue jeans. I still wear my Wranglers, every day. I did buy some Bibs once, back in the 70's. I wore them a couple times, washed them, and gave them away to someone who liked them

Yeah, around here a bib is something you put on a baby to feed it.
Now, if you're talkin' "overalls" - nothing wrong with those. I like them in the winter because I can put extra layers on underneath and not have that overstuffed sausage feeling. I have a nice pair in green corduroy that I wore for about two weeks straight after gallbladder surgery - no waistband!
I wear coveralls to work - not attractive but practical in the cowbarn.

LOVE them myself! About have my winter carhart ones wore out...actually if the wife found a way they'd be gone!!! I often pull them over sweats or shorts when doing morning chores. Keeps me from getting dirty and like has been stated I can just peel them off and eat breakfast/lunch or whatever.

Tee hee hee. When I read the title, I thought "oh good, someone else who has this problem". I wasn't thinking bib overalls.
I have a large front and cannot eat a single meal without spilling on my shirts, so I grab a tea towel and do a quick tie and wear it like a cravat or scarf when in actuality it's a bib...
No, I don't wear bib overalls, I would look terrible in them with my size.

I must be a weirdo, cause I think men in bib overalls are HOT.
I wear them when I'm working outside, but it is a pain if I have to use the bathroom! Why don't they make them with a full-length crotch zipper?

I voted that I love them, but in fact I'm a girl and don't own any. I do like them on guys, though. I don't know, they just look "neater" somehow...no issue of plummer's crack, no shirttails hanging out, etc. My dh wears them and I think he looks good in them! And there's nothing cuter than a little boy in bibs. My boys don't even own jeans until they're five or six!
Now, when I was a teenager, my dad wore them ALL the time and it was sooooo humiliating! I hated them! LOL!

I have no problem with bibs on guys (or kids). I personally don't wear them as they just weren't designed for a woman's chest. If I were less "blessed" I would consider them for chores. I wish DH wore them.....but he doesn't fit in them (and I'm not sure if he would wear them if he did). DS loved his, they just don't make them in his size anymore, and he's not quite large enough for men's (and men's cost allot more then kids).
Deconjim, I suggest you get a nice low ride pair of jeans (and a short t-shirt) and start doing chores in those....they will be happy to see the bibs come back out of the closet!

DH has several pair and I think he looks cute in them...they are very easy on his back and he likes the pockets. And he does wear them into town.
I find I have to hang them to dry, I ruined a brand new pair when the buckle got caught in the dryer and twisted around so much the strap broke.

I really wish DH would/could wear them!!!! He's 6'9" and proportionate and even tall guy pants are designed for guys with really long legs but short waisted. Belts don't work and even when he bends over really far (in suspenders) he's still at risk of showing some crack. He used to have some but wore them out and now I can't find a pair that fits him right- can't find a pair that doesn't give him a wedgie.

Hubs wears them. He says it's the perks of being old. I've never worn them. I've never thought of them as female wear, don't know why. We call them Farmer Johns around here. My MIL called suspenders "galluses". I'd never heard that expression. In England we called them braces. Hubs just got a pair of suspenders too, he says they are so comfortable. Comfortable is what we're all about around here. Way past the age of wanting to look cool.
