OK, so after waiting a few hours, we logged back in to the free annual credit report site. I started with Experian and we were able to log in and see her information. The only thing that was out of place was an inquiry from a mortgage company. No open credit cards or loans, which was good. We got nearly the same report from Transunion. The problem arose with trying to get the report from equifax. They obviously have someone else listed under her credit report as we failed the questions again. This time they referenced a car lease, the payment and someone whose middle name is obviously hispanic and who works at a shoe outlet, LOL. My daughter looked up problems with Equifax and it seems this has happened to others before. Guess we'll just send in the paperwork with a letter and see what happens. My daughter is calling the mortgage company today to see what is up with that.

twomeal, you shouldn't have had to pay the phone company. 17 year olds are not able to sign legally binding contracts. You got totally messed over by the phone company.

You really need to get all three credit reports corrected.

It's not at all unusual for them to have the wrong credit history on your account. Missing accounts that should be there, someone else's accounts can be on yours..

I'm a Jr. I started off at 18 with several of father's credit records on my credit report by mistake. It gave me a good leg up on credit, as most places were too stupid to notice I had revolving charge account on my credit report that were opened before I was even born..

I've since straightened that out. But it is a recurring problem for people with the same first and last name.

Didn't say they could, but you can get lots of other information, anything someone is foolish enough to put on there which manytimes answers the security questions that businesses ask for:
Schools, jobs, family members names, addresses, etc.

A relative had their information stolen. They discovered this when they attempted to file taxes this year, only to find someone had already filed using their info. They had to jump thru all kinds of hoops in order to actually file their taxes. To add insult to injury the only information they could get from the IRS was to be told that the other had been issued a $14,000.00 refund!!!
The IRS's take on this seems to be no big deal and they appear to have no interest on pursuing matters. Relative is currently fighting to get information so that they may press charges.
