Travel?
If you knew that your ability to travel in future would be severely limited (last chance at a "big" trip) and money was really not an object (within reason and reality :D ) where would you go if offered a trip?
Where would you choose to go, if you had the means and the opportunity? |
Egypt, Morocco and Iceland.
|
Why those places, specifically, Daniel? Something specific about those places, or just they're the ones that appeal to you?

The only continent I have not been: Antarctica
Four years ago I was in the Falkland Islands and wanted to go to South Georgia and the South Shetland Islands as well as the Antartic coast but was told I would need to go on a cruise ship to get there. Later while hiking in Chile I ran into a lady from Israel who was on her way to the Falkland's to meet up with a French sailor who had a sail boat and wa going to South Georgia and beyond. I should have kept in touch with her. Bill |
I would like to go on a Holocaust tour. There is a tour group that takes you to all the sights of importance. I can't get anyone to go with me though.
My daughter and I are booked on a trip with our homeschool group for April 2012 to go to London, Paris and Rome. It's not my dream trip, but it is my daughters dream trip. |
My "big trip" would be Egypt. I plan on giving that trip to myself as a retirement gift when I retire in 20+ years!!!!!!! I'm hoping to take a 3 - 4 week trip to see all that Egypt has to offer. The pyramids, old rulers, etc. have always interested me.

Road trip to Yellowstone National Park and return via South Dakota.
Which is what we had planned a couple of years ago when the bottom fell out of the economy and gas went to over four bucks a gallon. We'd made reservations a year in advance and everything. Oh well. |
I would want to revisit the friends I made in Arviat, Nunavut (Eskimo Point, Northwest Territories, Canada) in 1971.

Great question Tracy! For me, it would be Italy and Southern France. My dream trip is a food and wine tour around those countries. Italy also has some great history and architecture - and Southern France has beautiful castles and old villages. I INTEND to do this trip one day! That's what I've said for the last 20 years, but still, I think I can do it!
I had another dream trip in mind, but it's now a plan! I'm going to RV across Canada in the summer of 2012 or 2013 for 5-6 months! From Newfoundland to the Yukon! I nearly went this past summer, but doggie health issues put a hold on it, but still, it's happening! :) |
There are many places I would love to visit, but the top of my list is Israel. So much world changing history happened there.
|
I think I'd like to go visit Ireland. It would be interesting to see if I could find any relatives.

...............1980 , mother and oldest sister went on a six country tour , france , germany , italy , greece , switzerland and england ; she liked all except france , trashy , dirty and people were a bunch of snotts ! She loved germany because the country is so clean and residents take care of what they have , italy was next because they know how too extract some kind of joy out of every second and they don't get in a hurry about anything , esp. when it comes too making their meals and wine ! , fordy:cowboy:

All over Italy. I've been in love with Julius Caesar for years, and the era. I'd go to every ruin they have found.
|
I always wanted to go back to Spain as I loved the 5 years I lived there and there were still lots of places I didn't get to see or would like to have seen again.
And I've always regretted I didn't 'make' time to go to Mexico with my parents when they were still able to travel and I still spoke some Spanish. My Dad, particularly, really wanted to see some of the Aztec and Mayan ruins and travel in the more remote mountain regions as well ... old Spanish mines, etc. Other than than, Australian outback, perhaps, just for myself. |
I'd return to Paris yet again. I'm always happy there, even when I'm a bit lost:

Germany!
Why? Several reasons: --I'm mostly German, and so is dh. I'm 4th generation German-American and he's 3rd generation. So lots of family history to look up, cities of origin to go see, and there's a hotel in Munich that bears his family name. --I'm a dressage rider. To horsey people, that says it all. --Before we got married and were discussing honeymoon destinations, I wanted to go to Europe (specifically Germany), but dh wanted to go to the then trendy tropical destinations like Aruba, Cancun, Bahamas, etc. Couldn't come to an agreement and didn't have money anyway, so never took a honeymoon. --ten years ago, when dh had to get a passport to be able to make work-related trips to Mexico, we set a goal of going to Germany in 2008. Things were good and we figured by then we would have enough cash saved up plus the kids would be old enough to stay home without us while we went on our 'honeymoon' (funny how those tropical destinations aren't big desires of his anymore). Except the economy went sour and 2008 found us hoping and praying he wouldn't lose his job at GM. So our Germany trip got pushed into the realm of "maybe someday, sure would be nice if we could go " |
We've lived in 3 different countries and visited several more during our marriage but I haven't seen much of this country. I'd like to take a trip from west to east along the top. I'd love to see the Dakotas and New England in the fall especially.
|
With no intention of getting a passport visiting other countries is out for me.
Expect I'd opt to visit the NW ¼ of the United States. |
I have no desire to leave the US for a trip, but would love to take an Alaskan tour. I've been to every state in the US, Canada, and Mexico when I was traveling for my work. But would love to RV to all the states and stay a month in each one. Or at least most of them. Not sure there's that much to do in Rhode Island. LOL
|
I'll go anywhere any time - except for our dang milk cow.
I'd love to go back to China. I would love to go and tour some very small/homesteady type farms in any other country. Just to see what people like us do and how they do it. |
I'd love to go back to Japan and spend 3-4 months, our last trip was just wonderful. That's DH and I in front of the Nagasaki Peace Monument in my avatar.
Also love to visit Australia and New Zealand someday. |
So many places I would see!
France, Italy, the Meditaranean..... to see Art, ruins, and eat!! India, Thailand, Japan.... the list would go on and on..... I would love to just travel for a year, if I had the budget! |
Scotland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand...
|
I would visit. Dad - Milwuakee, Mom- Arizona, Thaiblue- Colorado, Backfourty- Michigan, KimM - Ohio, CrazyGoatGal- Vermont. I would rent a nice 4 horse trailer with living quarters and bring my goats, horses and dogs with me :)
|
I'd load up my kids in an RV and visit the grave and homesite of every one of my American ancestors (that I could find). Then, I'd visit Newfoundland to see the puffins, whales, and icebergs and, then visit St. Pierre and Miquelon to see how much French I remember from college. Throw in a trip up the Alaska Highway and I think I'd be pretty darned content. :)
|
England. Or a long RV tour of the US and Canada. Or Germany. Or Australia. Hm, tough choice. This year I think I'd choose Germany because Yusuf is on tour there this spring . . . :bouncy:
|
Sigh... I don't fly so travel outside the US is out (though Scotland/Ireland would be nice and my first ancestor to come the US in the 1600's was Dutch and that would be nice too..)
So I would also do a really, really, really, really long drive around North America. That would be totally awesome! Niagra, Canada, Rockies etc.. what fun! |
We had to cancel our honeymoon because of business obligations (almost 24 years ago!) so I would love to finally do that.
We were booked on the Venice-Simplon Orient Express from Paris to Istanbul. With a side trip to "Bran (Dracula's) Castle" in Transylvania. |
The long flight would bother me, but, I'd love to go see old castles, buildings, etc anywhere in Europe and be able to wander around by myself and "pretend".
Alaska would be nice and I could take a cruise ship there. In reality, Mom and Stepdad just moved to Montana in 10/10, so guess where our new vacation spot is only an hour from Yellowstone! Going in May or September this year. |
Ireland!
Before my brother and sis-in-law move back to the States. I'd also like to explore both Australia and Alaska as I have a thing for wide-open, unsettled places. :) |
I'd just like to go on another extended Tour of the Good Old USA. I've seen a lot of it...
The Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Painted Dessert, Petrified Forest, Yellowstone Nat. Park, and I've toured most of the Western USA and a good bit of the SouthEastern USA. I'd like to eat at Col. Bozeman's, again, out in Buffalo,WY. I'd like to camp at Weber State Park, up the Canyon, from Ogden, UT. The River water was so cold in July you could not wash your face in it. I'd like to stand on the edge of the Grand Canyon again. And, I'd like to see Old Faithful blow again, one more time. I have a lot of good pictures, in my mind, I'd like to go back to. Load me up with DSW in a Motorhome or even a good pickup with a shell on the back to haul luggage........I could travel around the Rest of the Country, for a month or two. Then just come back Home content. |
I'm not a traveler (never ever had any intentions of leaving the US or Canada). After living in Europe for a few year I've had my fill...we couldn't live there and not show the kids as much as we could. If my arm is being twisted I'd opt for parts of the US I haven't seen...Pacific NW, Alaska, or the upper NE. If it has to be an "out of country" trip then either Australia (when it drys up some) or the British Isles.
|
I'd love to go to Australia, but only if I could go on a private jet b/c no trip is worth going through the scanning process.
I'd love to see the outback and kangaroos and stuff :) If a private jet wasn't possible, then I'd go to my favorite place in the US...Saint Augustine, FL. I love the history and the city. I love walking down St. George Street and eating at the Columbia Restaurant. We're going there for spring break in March. Of course, it's only about 2 hours away, so that makes it really nice. |
Ireland, Scotland, England and Holland. then somewhere very warm for Oct. too April !!
|
I'd love to sea the Bering Sea.
|
Australia and New Zealand. I would also like to Port du Calais and to Normandy, I'd like to visit WWII sites.
