My muddroom is smallish, but I love it...always love muddrooms. Our laundry room is very small, but is off of the muddroom, and in our muddroom we have a bench at the door entrance, a storage rack, a backers rack, an upright freezer my puter desk and the file cabinet..it's all right off of the kitchen, opened to it. Frankly..the muddroom is my favorite room too. it's not big enough to house animals, but it s good room.

My laundry room doubles as the mud room. It is right off the main entry. The large utility tub is great for cleaning paint tools, sheetrock tools, tiling tools - and then it is a short trip to toss the dirty water out the front door to the driveway (won't put that junk down the septic system).
Besides the washer/dryer it has the small fridge, the smallest fridge with the dehydrator on a shelf above (they are both about the same size). It has shelves for store bought canned goods (real stuff is down in the cellar) and a place for newspaper and a few other supplies.
It is way too small, and if we some day build an attached garage this room will be made larger. I need a bigger sink and it would be great to have some counter areas for working - a great spot for processing when it is too cold to use the summer kitchen.

Never really knew what a mudroom was. Sounds like what we call a backporch or some folks called a utility room.
In any case what you all are describing is my basement. It is a walk out basement and we use it for everything that might be too messy for the main house. Right now it is over run w/ hunting gear and some canning stuff.

We've got a small mudroom (6'x6') and I love it. I put pegs along the walls for coveralls and coats, and a tall wire rack for boots, and we keep seasonal sports stuff there to. It's got a tile floor so I can sweep and mop when needed, but most of the time it's dirty and I don't care. I always wanted a mud room and was happy to see this one when we looked at the house.

How I WISH I had a mudroom!
IF I had one, it would have the washer & dryer, pantry, coat closet, and mop sink, just to name a few! Wow. I wish I wish I wish........

We call ours the bootroom. It's got, well, boots, freezer and washing machine in it so could be called a laundry room as well. I hate the word 'utility room' (for no good reason!) but it could be called that as well, I suppose!

Ours is the true mudroom on an old 1883 farmhouse. It houses our freezer and 2nd refrigerator plus our recycle bins and chore coats and hats plus our muddy boots and shoes. I love it!

My mudroom was going to be 10x10 but when we found out we could not have a basement I had them make 5 by 10 of it into a storage room so my mudroom is also 5 by 10 so I had to scrap the utility sink. I wish I had one in there. I would definately use it for mopping floors and etc. But I make do without it.
I will try to get a picture, mine is not exciting though. Very useful and glad I have it.
Oh Willow my girls are potty trained to go on paper in one corner of the mudroom. They would probably escape a box or one of the other animals would get nosy and release them. Most likey the cats who love boxes and can scale any baby gate.

OUrs is just a pass thru room from what was once a two car garage into the kitchen. It only had enought room for the washer and dryer and to pass thru.
Now, the garage is a big family room and the mudroom is a butler's pantry with floor to ceiling kitchen cabinets and a countertop. I like it much better than having my dirty laundry sitting on the floor there on laundry days. The laundry is now a finished room in the basement
But, I wasn't in my brand new house 3 days before I had a newborn goat kid in it.

The genius that built our house decided against a mudroom and built the garage just long enough to contain his vehicle - a Jeep Wrangler. None of our vehicles will fit in it, so now we have a huge mudroom. The washer, dryer, and chest freezer are in here. We put in a deep sink. There are lots of shelves for storage, a workbench for DH and DD. The kids can do models or messy crafts in here without mom freaking out. DH's large tool boxes are also in here and we have racks for coveralls, boots, and a bench to take all these off. There have been sick cats, goat bottle babies, and guinea keets living in here at one time or another. There is a cat in there now that has an upper respiratory infection. He is on daily antibiotics for 21 days.
All shoes go off in the mudroom to preserve the almost white carpet that the builder put in. Did I mention the builder was a lawyer and I don't think he ever did anything out side?
