I live in Duluth and walk along the shore of Lake Superior almost every day. I am in awe of its beauty and its power. Though I am too young to remember the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, I often think of it as I see the boats coming and going in the harbor.

My brother did not follow family tradition to Iowa State. He studied forestry, and went where there were trees, Michigan Tech. He and some roommates used to play dodge the waves out to the end of the breakwater. That particular day, no way could they make it to the end of the breakwater. I need to get back up there on vacation sometime.

I always loved that song but I didn't realize that it happened within my lifetime. I just sang along whenever it came on the radio.

I remember the song very fondly from childhood. My Dad always played the middle of the road stations, and oldies, so I always thought it took place much earlier than 75. Thanks for all the details... and bringing back the memories of this song.

Hubbys still on the Anderson, usually he takes vacation this time of year but that didn't happen this year, I talked to him a little while ago and he says its been a really somber day on the boat. Lots of talk about the Fitzgerald.
