Mine for July was $147, about $50 more than this time last year. Granted, I was home recovering from surgery for three of those weeks and therefore had the a/c running lower than usual, but even so, that was quite a jump.

one time last year mine almost doubled. I called them up and turns out the meter reader must have transposed numbers. they asked me to take a reading and give it to them over the phone and what he had reported was higher than it was 2 weeks later. they didn't give me the money back but did credit my next (couple ) of bills.

So how did you do with the elec company? Are they willing to consider the $300 was wrong?

Didn't get through today. They put me on hold FOREVER and I had other things to do. I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Being a ground floor apt. - could there be an outdoor outlet on his service? perhaps someone using electric powertools/weedeaters/smokers/patio lights/bug zappers? i would check all around the apartment building and find out. Any new parking lot/yard lights?
