1. Do you like eggnog?

I like home-made eggnog, but not store-bought. And our home-made is non-alcoholic.

2. Favorite gift received as a child?

I'm not sure I got these for Christmas, but I was given the entire hardback set of Zane Grey westerns when I was about eight or nine!

3. Hardest person to buy for?

My step-father.

4. Easiest person to buy for?

My daughter -- she's very easy to please, LOL! I've already given her one of her gifts this year -- she loves the dresses worn by the Celtic Women singing group on their videos, so when I was in Goodwill yesterday I though I'd look and see if I could find her a 'Celtic women' dress! I found her one -- it's not strapless (I wouldn't let her wear a strap-less dress), but it's very nice. It's sort of a garnet-red, crinkly-satiny fabric, and it's ankle-length on her (she's short). Now I need to find a pretty necklace for her to wear with it, as it leaves more bare at the top than anything else she has, and it needs something there. I was going to save it for Christmas, but realized that she'll have more opportunities to wear it before than after.

5. Do you have a nativity scene?

No. I used to have one, but left it with my ex when we moved back to Oregon.

6. Mail or email Christmas cards?

I'll e-mail a few, but still mail some to close family and friends. I like Leaning Tree cards.

7.Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

An ugly purple stuffed toy poodle, when my brothers were getting cowboy hats and pistols with holsters and belts! That was the only toy I got that year, too, which made it even worse!

8. Favorite Christmas Movie?

I don't know -- I so seldom watch movies or TV that I don't even know what Christmas movies are out there.

9. When do you start shopping?

I shop all year, whenever I see something that I know someone would like or could use at a good price. I don't get all that much, or spend much, but I like for what I give to be thoughtful, not just last-minute afterthoughts.

10. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Oh, yes, but I made sure it went to someone who the original giver would never meet, LOL!

11. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Christmas cookies and fruit cake -- but I can't eat either one anymore.

12. Lights on the tree?

We have an artificial tree now that came with lights on it, so yes. If we were using a real tree, there wouldn't be any lights on it.

13. Favorite Christmas song?

All of them. LOL! Seriously, I love Christmas music (not the tacky, silly songs, but the sweet old hymns and songs like White Christmas with Bing Crosby singing it).

14.Travel at Christmas or stay home?

Stay at home! When I was little I used to enjoy going to relatives for the holidays, but now I'd rather stay home.

15. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?

Let's see: Dasher, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Vixen, Donner, Blitzen, and of course Rudolph. Is that all of them? I think there were only eight plus Rudolph.

16. Angel on the tree top or a star?

I like a star best, but we have both and alternate, or hang one of them from the ceiling!

17. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

We used to open presents on Christmas Eve when I was growing up, and for several years we did that with my children, too. But finally I realized that they were over-tired by evening, and it just worked better to do presents Christmas morning. Now that the only 'child' in the house is my daughter, in order to keep her from getting over-excited and passing out or something (she's done that before), she gets a small present every day for several days before Christmas.

18. Most annoying thing about this time of year?

My daughter, who is autistic, gets so over-wrought and excited and crabby, usually starting weeks before Christmas, but building up until the worst day, the day we open presents, that she's nearly unbearable. And then, once she's got all her presents open, she'll have a screaming fit because there aren't any more. It makes me not want to celebrate Christmas at all, and I'm a Christian.

19. Favorite ornament theme or color?

Our ornaments don't have themes. Some of them are probably as old as Grandma, and they've been added on to gradually over the years. I think that's the best kind, an eclectic collection of ornaments that mean something. Some of ours were made by my family and my cousins when we were kids.

20. Favorite for Christmas dinner?

Roast beef; honey-glazed carrots;fruit salad; cheesecake for dessert.

21. What do you want for Christmas this year?

Is this supposed to be a realistic wish, or castles in the sky? If the latter, then I would love to have a home of my own! With land, barns, mature fruit trees, and so on, LOL! But on a more realistic level, I just got myself my Christmas present this year: a pair of Carhartt's overalls, and two books, one on methods of preserving food without a canner or a freezer, and one on gardening in the high and arid West.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Kathleen

[QUOTE=Vashti;3480155]1. Do you like eggnog? YES! but I s just diagnosed as allergic to eggs this year.Sob- I actually used to make my own, in the days before salmonella scares.

2. Favorite gift received as a child? A minature newborn nursery set, with teensy childs-thumb sized babies to fit in teensy bassinets and with REALY teensy baby bottles- which my parents promptly glued together in one mass, figuring that if it was a little larger it'd be harder to lose.

3. Hardest person to buy for? I have 2. My mother gives everything back to me, even edibles- sometimes YEARS after I bought them. I have gotten expired gift cards, clothes that her size not mine, music boxes I bought for her (I don't collect tchotchkes) food - including the remains of a freezer burned frozen pheasant I had given her 3 years earlier.Second would be Grandfatherbear. He puts in his order like a catalogue and woe befall you if you try to get him a surprise because you think he would like it- I have been made to suffer for MONTHS where he would carp and complain over something I had gotten him that was not on his "list" - he would accuse me of wanting it- whatever "it" was- for myself and of trying to control him with presents- in MY defense, once a couple of years would pass and he would get over the fact he didn't request the black bomber jacket, or the modern folksingers album collection, or the denim shirt, or the Capitol Steps political satire album, he would really enjoy them.
It's not worth the aggravation. I am just trying to be an order fulfillment service now. Trying very hard to squelch that desire to "surprise" him- he doesn't like surprises.

4. Easiest person to buy for? Oldest grandson He ALWAYS says thank you and never complains.

5. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes- bought it at Dollar Store

6. Mail or email Christmas cards? MAIL_ with xerox Year in review letters- sometimes they go out 12/31, lol.

7.Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I was 12. I got a green umbrella, don't remember getting anything else. My mother left home that spring and we stopped having Christmas because my father would drive us to Florida for 3-4 weeks around Christmas break. He had a buddy on the school board so I always wound up with excused absences.

8. Favorite Christmas Movie? Santa Clause Conquers the Martians (so bad, it's good)

9. When do you start shopping? After Labor Day- except when GFB is out of work- like this year.

10. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Many times.See answer to Question 3- right to the trash.

11. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Pfeffernusse little powder sugar covered cookies. I like oyster stew on Christmas Eve ever since I read in Little House on the prairie about the Ingalls eating oyster stew at Christmas.I also love Mince pie, which I've not seen mentioned yet.

12. Lights on the tree? We have a little silver tabletop tree with fiberoptic lights.

13. Favorite Christmas song? Rusty Chevrolet by Da Yoopers.

14.Travel at Christmas or stay home? Work. Couldn't stand the command performances put on by sisterin law and her digs and insults at me.

15. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Yes. The pair is DONDER und Blitzen, germanic for Thunder and lightning.

16. Angel on the tree top or a star? Fiberoptic light

17. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Morning. Stockings first, then taking turns to open presents. I also insisted the children couldn't get out of bed till 7 a.m. on pain of terrible retribution. They learned to tell time quite young, and oddly enough, right around Christmas.

18. Most Annnoying thing about this time of year? People who confuse one of Santa's reindeer (Donder) with an ignorant canniballistic wagonmaster (Donner!) who wound up eating half his party when they got snowed in the Sierra Nevada. I did notice someone else mentioning the reindeer's name was really Donder but I can't tell you how MUCH this one particular mistake annoys me!

19. Favorite ornament theme or color? I love my mini -Hello Kitty ornaments - everything else on my silver tree is blue!

20. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Mince Pie

21. What do you want for Christmas this year? I'de like to give my grandson a trip with me to see the Northern Lights.

22. Who is most likely to respond to this? People who don't mind exposing themselves to the whole world.

23. Who is least likely to respond to this? People who do mind exposing themselves to the whole world.
Someon asked how to copy the whole list? I didn't know how but experimented tonight- turns out those little"quote" and "quote plus" buttons on the lower right of each post need only to be clicked once, then click "new reply" on the left. You get the whole post copied and get to save yourself a lot of typing, just use the delete button to clear the old answers and put your own in. Most of you guys probably already knew this..I'm ashamed to say I've been posting since the Lusenet days and it took me this long to figure it out!
