grocery shopping...who does it?
in your family? I know...most women do. but years ago when our children were babies, hub started getting sent out to do it. then...I worked alot and discovered I HATED it, so he did it. now...he usually is out and about travelling with work, so he does it. (no stores handy here) WITH MY LIST, of course. :)
now...he's home (lack of work)....and ladies, if you can relate....he just got sent out to do it. (ya know...cause if he sneaks up on me one more time while I'm vacuuming, he's gonna perish) lol |
We go together, but DH takes responsibility for choosing the meat. He's very good at hunting out the bargains.
|
I do the shopping. If Hubby comes along, he tosses goodies into the cart that I wouldn't have bought. Then he is shocked at how much it costs!

"gonna perish", now that's funny! I know what you're saying! DH does most of the grocery shopping because I have to be having an especially good day to go myself. It takes some physical strength to lift and carry groceries, and I don't always have enough strength, especially for big items like dog and cat food. DH has always clipped and used coupons; me, not so much.
|
We do it together, with a list. The list is for everyone to add to between trips and I get the veto since I'm the cook. We started shopping together when the kids were old enough to stay home alone - it was our only chance for a "date" and we've kept it up. We shop once every 2 weeks, so we get 2 nights out a month!

Our whole family goes together.

I do.
Grocery shopping, cooking, and most of the dishwashing. .....Alan. |
I do it a majority of the time.
I like it.. or rather I used to like it until the prices went crazy. Now I sometimes have fits in the grocery store where I point at foods and shriek. For awhile DH took over the shopping because I would come home so upset, testy and unliveable. I can cope now and so I go. DH calls on his way home and asks if there is anything we need last minute.. that is nice. |
I'm usually the one to go to the store if we need anything just because I have the time during the day. But we used to shop together back when we bought almost EVERYTHING. Now, we don't buy so much since we grow/raise/make it.
|
I do, and did, my EX didn't know where anything was in the store, or have any idea of prices. Now and then, we would go together, she would go from one side to the other then back again, because she didn't know the layout of the store.
I also did the shopping for my parents for the last 4 or 5 years they were at home, before going to nursing home. Ed |
I shop for necessities most of the time by myself. We have our own meats & veggies, so I can stay out of the grocery store for weeks at a time. Any time DH gets into a grocery store, he comes home with lots of junk food, and staples that we already have plenty of. He means well....
|
DH and I shop together. He's good at finding bargains. Love the help with loading and unloading. We try to just shop every two weeks.
|
Me. DH hates grocery shopping. Probably hasnt been inside a grocery store in 10 years or more. If something should happen to me he would probably send one of our grown daughters or grand daughters!
|
I do more of the shopping than DH does, but that is due to logistics, my carpool meets right around the corner from the grocery store. When DH goes shopping, lots of extras end up in the cart.
Things he is good at picking out - beer, hard liquor, donuts . . . However, he's much better at sorting lumber than I am. Cathy |
she goes with the coupons and the sales items, we go together for the big meat buys to can or veggies to fill the freezers.
|
It's is just me so I do all the shopping here and all the shopping at work. I ended up in the ER the other week so couldn't go into work, the woman who did the shopping for me made a mess of things. Hopefully, this weekend I will finish getting back to the supply level we were at before she went three weeks ago.
|
I do, if Dh did the shopping we would eat fried bologna, spam and veinne sauages 24/7 :D
|
We only shop once a month. DH and I turn it into a fun day together. We shop for nearly everything, food, clothes, hardware, household items, etc., on that one day a month together. We really don't buy a whole lot of groceries, since we produce the majority of our own food at the farm, or get it through our church's drypack cannery.

I shop most of the time once a month but my husband goes and the kids are SOOOOOOO HAPPY! Can you say junk food? I tell him if he goes, he pays because he is such a bad shopper....but he does like to shop! He cooks one Sunday a month and makes a huge mess for me to clean! And, we are out of everything because he refuses to rotate from storage room..... So glad my husband is working....because he does that sneak up on you thing too and makes a mess in the room I just finished....or where's this? Where's that? all day.....Maybe he should pick up after himself so he knows where this and that is....just a thought. |
DH does not go the store if I can help it! He always finds things he "needs". Best to leave him at home. It also takes him at least twice as long to shop as it does me. If he wants something, I tell him to add it to the list on the frig.

My son does the shopping, most of the cooking and the laundry in his house. His wife told me what a wonderful job I did of raising him, and I had to laugh! I asked her if she thinks Dad does any of that??? Hah, I wish. Actually, hubby will pick up a few items on a list when he's running other errands, but usually, I do the grocery shopping, what there is of it. With gas like it has been, I make a list and do as many errands as possible when in the big city.

For many years, I did the shopping alone, usually on my way home after work or on a day off. Then I was laid up with a broken knee, and DH was suddenly retired. When I was totally disabled the first few weeks, he had to go alone, with a list I made. The first time, a friend went with him, to show him where everything was in the store. Of course it was mostly TV dinners and frozen entrees, since I was bedridden and he can't cook beyond warming something up. As soon as I was allowed to go out, the very first trip was him dragging me and my wheelchair to the grocery store! He didn't mind going with me, but I think going alone scared him... for months after that, I had to ride one of those electric cart things around the store, and he pushed the basket and put the things in it.
Now a couple years later, we still go together. I still do all the cooking, but I don't think he minds shopping with me. He is interested in the prices and getting a good bargain. He isn't too bad about adding a lot of junk, just a bag of chips, cheese crackers, something like that - and of course his weekly carton of ice cream! In the summertime, we would pick up a cheap lunch at a local convenience store while out, and drive to a park by the river that was near the store, open the back door of the van, and sit back there right at the edge of the river and have a nice lunch, watching the ships and boats go by. So grocery shopping turned into a nice little day out. |
We both shop separately. I tend to hit the bargains on the basics pretty hard. DH shops for a lot of the special ingredients for his cooking. He goes to the Asian market a lot.
|
I always done it and most everything else until Dh fully retired. Then I got very sick and he just took it all on. He knows where the best is in any store, even took over the cooking and really enjoys it. Our roles have totally reversed and I really think he is better at it all than I ever was!

All of us. I usually make up the lists, but my mom, dh or I... any of us... might do the actual shopping.

Well, I'm single so I'm stuck doing the grocery shopping. I hate it. I mean really, really hate it. Loathe it. I will go weeks eating nothing but stuff like biscuits because all I have is flour, shortening and powdered milk just because I don't want to go to the grocery store. If I ever win the lottery I'm hiring someone to do the grocery shopping with me.
I think I hate it for a couple of reasons. One is cost. Everything is so freaking expensive now. If I go to the little local store I seriously can't walk out of that store without spending 70 or 80 bucks. That's just buying essentials. Second is probably just as bad. I hate dragging the stuff inside from the truck. I don't mind so much putting everything away but just hauling it in from the truck I just hate. I try to slide as many bags as I can onto my wrists and hands so I can take 6 or 8 bags on each arm just to keep the trips down. nice thing about the plastic bags is that you can really carry a huge load of groceries albeit painfully. If I win the lottery or if I get married (both are winning a lottery suppose) I'm gonna get someone else to do it. I'll put them away but someone else can go get them. |
We go together.
|
I do most of the grocery shopping. Hubby does enjoy going occasionally, but we always end up spending so much more when he gets into the act. There is some weird magic that a can of vienna sausage has over him also. He always has to grab a bunch, especially the flavored ones.
|
I do the shopping, mostly 'cause I'm the cook, and know what we need. :)
DH works the "fridge magic" when I get home. He puts the stuff away, organizes and does the "is this bad, smell this!" thing with the deep hidden jars of whatever that may be lurking in there. |
