I "know" things are going to happen sometimes, my friends laugh and say I can tell the future, one friend actually said to me "please don't tell me what's going to happen, I want to find out myself". It's nothing I control, and I actually think it's just because some people are predicable LOL. It does seem to go in and out, ie, I'll be on a roll for a year, then nothing for 5-6 years.
One thing that scared me, was when my FIL died. I heard he was sick, and just had a thought that he would die. It scared me, so I put it out of my head, saying no, it's just a little cold. One week later he was gone. I never told anyone about that before, it still scares me. I am glad that I encourged my DH to go visit him that week he was sick.

fretti 07/31/08 07:23 PM

Yup. Several times, but not recently.

One of the last ones was in the early 90's. I was 24 weeks pregnant (only pregnancy) and lost my baby from an infection on the placenta caused by amniocentosis. Another lady where I work was also pregnant and due any day. I had this horrible dream that her baby would be stillborn and told a co-worker in confidence about the dream.

A few days later, the co-worker called me aside and told me that the woman's baby had died when the umbilical cord got wrapped around the neck and it wasn't detected in time. I was absolutely sick to have known about that ahead of time.

Another time I had a premonition when I was a child that my parents would run over a neighbor's dog. These dogs were known to chase cars so it shouldn't have been a surprise but it made me ill when we did kill one of their dogs a few days later.

I'm really thankful I'm not having premonitions any more.

MoonshadowMom 07/31/08 07:31 PM

Women are more perceptive. Call it "women's intuition" or whatever. After nearly 30 years of married life my DH finally believes and asks my opinion on people. places and events. Some of these feelings are good, some are terrible. I also get visits and usually good advice. I do not try to conjure up any feelings and they just happen. I listen. It really started about when I was in the second grade.

soulsurvivor 07/31/08 08:30 PM

I have always had an inside "something" that's still difficult to explain. All I'm going to say is that, after 58 years, I fully trust this inside "something", and no reason not to trust this part of myself. It's never lied. And no, I'm not out here picking winning lottery numbers or anything, but for myself and the people I feel closest with, it's always been accurate.

EDDIE BUCK 07/31/08 08:56 PM

Well I had a friend that was in the hospital with a stroke and about the sixth morn after he went in the hos, I woke up at three am feeling as though I just had to go visit him. I got up and got ready and went to the hos to see him and after my visit with him he died about Ten oclock that morn. Recond thats a premonition or either I'm just bad luck. :o Eddie

Sabrina67 07/31/08 09:27 PM

Yes. many times., it is strong in our family. started when I was very young, and yes...people can really get freaked out by it. My kids have also learned to listen when I tell them about a "feeling"
My aunt is a paid psychic...which I feel is not ..well real, maybe is the word. I don't think God is going to give you a gift so you can tell people about their love lives. Maybe I am just being petty. I just don't think it is something you can pull out of a hat, at least not for me.

Kstornado11 07/31/08 09:44 PM

I have read,& also had personal experiances, that the more you pay attention to your intuition, the stronger it will become. I also firmly believe that if you use it for personal gain, or overtly brag about it,you will lose it ( such as Sylvia Browne & etc). I think it is more accepted today as fact and not called "witchcraft" or "the devil's work" nearly as often by educated people. Scientists have been studying it for years, someday they might just catch up! :p

Slev 07/31/08 09:48 PM

...I knew you were going to ask this question.

but seriously, yes, far too many to bother mentioning, some good, some bad, some pointless

lasergrl 07/31/08 11:51 PM

I dreamt that Steve Irwin was killed by a crocodile less then a week before he died. I did tell people the day I had the dream.

There is a lady at work that knows when someone will get pregnant. She has predicted each one (at least 6). She has deams involving fish/aquariums. She comes in and says "I had a fish dream" and we all go, uh oh!

SageLady 08/01/08 01:48 AM

Well, it is so good to know that so many of you have had premonitions as well. It makes me feel a little more "normal". ;) I've really enjoyed reading everyone's experiences here. Thanks for sharing. :)

MelissaW 08/01/08 05:51 AM

On several occasions I've known that people are pregnant, once before she did! The neatest one was when I had a dream about my friend. In the dream she and I were walking through her house, and she told me that she had a second daughter. She showed me a portrait on the wall of a little girl with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Her daughter that she already had at the time was blond with blue eyes. The next day, she called me on the phone. I said, "You're calling to tell me you're pregnant, aren't you?" She was speechless! Funny thing is, the baby was due on MY birthday (but was actually born exactly a week early), and she DOES have dark brown hair and brown eyes!

Hehehe! I did this to a friend about 2 years ago. I walked into her office and she said something (don't remember what) and I said Sis, you're pregnant. Her response was "No way! I couldn't be"

Well, two weeks later she comes in my office and says "Well, you were right. I just got back from the doc and I'm due in September."

One of my friends did that once also! Me and a friend walked into another friends house one day, and she looked at us and said one of you is pregnant, I dreamt of fish last night. We just both laughed. 2 weeks later, the friend that was with me that day found out she was pregant.

woodsrunner 08/01/08 01:50 PM

Yes! And 90% of the time they involve my mother.

As a child I spent summers in Canada with my grandfather at his fishing camp. One day when I was about 10 we had a conversation about death and dying. Years later in 1986 I was working several jobs and sleeping odd hours. After one overnight shift I went to bed so tired I didn't even get undressed. I dreamed of that conversation with grandpa. Next morning I got a phone call from my mother. Grandpa had died the day before after suffering a heart attack. He died just shortly after I had gone to bed.

In the fall of 88 I had moved in with my parents for a few weeks before I relocated out of the area. My dad was out of town on business and my siblings had just left for college. My mother and I are the only ones in the family that will eat ricotta cheese. All day I craved cheese stuffed shells. I figured I would cook dinner and stopped at the grocery for ingredients on the way home. So did mom. Same grocery chain, different stores. We checked out within minutes of each other. When we got home our reciepts were exactly the same, except for the pack of cigarettes I bought.

Take the following as you will. I generally consider it a very private experience and don't often share it. I don't even think Pelenaka has heard this in detail.

A few years after that was the real wierd one. I was living in another town. Still working multiple jobs. This town was in a valley which meant no cable = no TV. I couldn't afford cable, but, I had an old short wave radio I had fixed. It was a sunday night and I wasn't working as bouncer in the nieghborhood tavern. That meant I could go in and actually enjoy a beer or two, without having to worry about what was going on around me. So, I ate dinner while listening to "The Happy Station" out of Holland on the radio. Then headed out for a beer or two. Had a few, caught a little buzz and was walking the three blocks home. A block from home this guy pulled up next to me and rolled down the window. I thought he was driving my car, it was a blue 77 Nova, just like mine. The guy was in tears, and I'm thinking, great a drunk that recognizes me and wants to talk my ear off for an hour. All he said was "Please pray for me, I just found out my mother has cancer". "Please pray for us". I hadn't prayed in years and just shrugged it off and went home. When I got there I flipped on the old radio and got a preacher from south america skipping frequencies. He was preaching on the power of prayer. Something came over me and I found myself in tears listening to the preacher. Laying in bed that night the compulsion to pray, I fell asleep crying not knowing why. Next morning as I walked in the door at work, the sales counter guy said "call your dad, It's urgent". When I called I was told come home now! Your mother is in the hospital! She's had bleeding and has been ignoring it, they think she may have ovarian cancer.

Turned out it wasn't cancer.

Haven't had any major premonitions since then. But, I could go weeks without speaking to mom. I get sick and that phone will ring, and she'll be on it asking if I'm ok or not.

NickyBlade 08/01/08 09:38 PM

Ten days ago my 17 year old got up to get ready for work and said to me "Mom, I feel like something is really wrong. I don't know what, but something is very wrong." I told her not to worry and that she was probably stressed because work has been busy for her. Later in the afternoon she came home from work and received a phone call that one of her closest friends had been hit by a car while riding his bike home from his job the night before and had passed away. They still haven't found the driver or truck that hit him and had the driver stopped, the boy might have lived. More than 20 minutes passed before another car saw him and called 911.

Pansies4me 08/01/08 10:27 PM

Ok, how about a happier story that won't leave anyone feeling freaked out?

I was a junior in high school and was entered in a drawing a radio station was having for a diamond ring. If they drew your name, you had nine minutes to call in and win the prize. I told my mom before I went to school that I knew I was going to win that ring and I wouldn't hear my name called. She told me to go to school. Before first hour I told my best friend and another friend I knew I was going to win that ring. Second hour had just started when an office aide came into my literature class and told the teacher that I had to come down to the office about something to do with winning a ring on the radio.

Turns out a senior guy I knew from band had skipped class and gone home to have breakfast. Heard my name on the radio, knew he couldn't call the school and tell me, called his mom at work, his mom called the school office, they got me out of class and I made it within the nine minutes to win the ring.

My friends and family were flabbergasted, but I knew.

I've also had some of the freaky things that others have mentioned, but thought I would share a fun story instead.

Here are a couple of mine.

When I was a teenager me and my boyfriend were cruising the neighborhood in his car. He was not going fast or anything, just normal speed. Out of nowhere I told him to slow down. He said why and I said because a kid is going to ride out in front of the car. He didn’t argue about it he did slow down, mostly our of sarcasm and kept asking me over and over if he could speed up. I kept saying no. The next block a kid on a tricycle rode out from behind a parked car right in front of his car. He was going slow enough he stopped in time.

My son was out playing with his friends on his skateboard. He was around 11. I for some reason worried about him so bad that I got in my car and went looking for him. Found him at the park in total pain not even a minute after just he sprained both ankles in one complete idiot skateboard move..
There was no way he could have walked home. I hate skateboards.

Been pretty accurate with that one myself.
THe only problem is when you ask a girl when are you due, and they tell you they only found out themselves that day that they were pregnant.

I "saw" a gravel truck coming over a hill top on my side of the road one day while driving my 2 year old to grandma's. Which is odd because trucks don't usually use this road. The feeling was so overwhelming that I pulled over off the side of the gravel road. No sooner did I get pulled over at the base of the next hill and a full gravel truck came barreling over the top of said hill way over on my side of the road.

oldgaredneck 08/02/08 08:24 AM

Another man here! The wife and I are both "sensitive" to persons, places and things. Her's is a little stronger than mine.

We get "vibrations" from places we visit, and if something terrible has happened, she will actually get physically sick and we have to leave the area. I just get a feeling of being very unwelcome.

Both of us see and sense spirits, both good and not so good. We had one follow us home from our visit to "Westville", near Columbus, GA. She was not a very pleasant entity, and scared the blazes out of our 5 year old great nephew. Along with the help of our resident ghost, (who is very protective!), we "evicted" her. Our resident ghost, who we affectionately call "Andy", actually caught my wife once when she slipped off a stepstool!

My wife inherited her ability from her mother, I got mine from my Dad.

fostermomma 08/02/08 08:37 AM

I have had these things happen a lot my whole life. Some are dreams and some are feelings. Some are good and some bad. Some happen right away and some years later. I have several family members that also do this on both sides of the family.

I have a cousin that had three children and I told her she was expecting before she knew it with all three. I told her Mom that I thought she would have two more children which is "impossible" because her tubes are tied so we will see.

Sabrina67 08/02/08 08:51 AM

oldgaredneck, since you admitted to a resident ghost, we also have one. Mainly a door opener and walker. We hear it upstairs when there is no-one at all up there. Friendly though , even the kids are ok with it. They laugh about me yelling upstairs for them to go to bed....and waking them up.

SageLady 08/03/08 05:29 PM

Sabrina67, I think I could handle living with a friendly ghost, but those scary ones forget it!!

Chickadee_42us 08/03/08 06:17 PM

I have the dream forecasting things too. Mine are mostly of the death of family members. They're so emotionally real that when the events actually happen I am able to receive the news, well, easier due to the extreme sadness already having been expelled. Somehow the dreams go into no man's land but when the event happens, I have recall.

The only dreams that have lingered are my dad and mom's deaths. In dreams I conversed with them and told them they were dead. Yeah, they knew. My mom's was really lingering dreams, in the dreams she'd be doing normal daily chores, just like she was home and I was visiting helping out discussing issues. I think she stayed around because she knew trouble would be lingering.

I also have had few premonition type incidences. It's very nice to read of other people having these same type of dealings.

My daughter told me of a friend's mother who could see 'spirits hanging around people'. She told her daughter to watch my daughter, something tragic was going to happen, she'd seen too many spirits around my daughter. Next night after her date ended with a young man who she cared a great deal about, he was killed in a car accident driving home. His death has allowed her to have many 'issues' to deal with. I'd love to ask this woman for more detail but I am half way afraid to. When my son was having surgery, they happened to be in the same waiting room, it made me nervous knowing she was there, yet I did want to ask her, 'do you see my family'!!!!

OUVickie 08/03/08 07:04 PM

Yes and I'll often take a drive a different route if I have a bad feeling about a road, or something. I've had strange feelings and strange, vivid dreams before. The dreams came true and the feelings I never know, but I try to listen to my feelings.
I believe kids and animals are really in tune to things like that, grown ups, often times, just let too much "stuff" get in the way as we get older.

mamajohnson 08/03/08 07:13 PM

I have similar things happen. but it is more hmmm don't know how to say it. I "see" lies. It's like a curtain raises up from over the person and I can just 'see' that what they said is a lie. I usually know what the truth is, but not in the form of words, more in the way of seeing it. I know that sounds weird, but there it is.
I have distinct dreams too. Usually a warning, a prompt to prayer. I believe also, like others, that the Holy Spirit is allowing me to see these things, and I need to be wise in how to react to them.
The first time I saw a lie it freaked me out, because it was a friend lieing about sleeping with someone very close to me. I know for sure she saw on my face that I saw she was caught in the lie. She pretty well kept clear of me after that! lol!
I have seen who someone will marry. Years ago several friends of mine and I were just sitting around her apartment, talking, with the door open. A dashing young man that she had recently met came in (since the door was open) sat down with his guitar and sang to us awhile and then left. When he left I suddenly 'saw' that they would marry. I told her - Dora - you will marry him. We all had a good laugh over that... then 1 year later they married.
I 'saw' that my dad died and as a result was able to spend the last few months/days with him, I also saw things that would happen to my oldest son, and some I did not like, but most came into being.
I saw something disturbing about my mother, but have not seen it happen yet. I will wait and see.

The most recent dream was about my 2 teen sons at home now. It was extremely disturbing, and has brought me to my knees daily to be sure they make it through this.

Yep, I think women are more in tune with things, that is why we have these dreams and such. Either that or we accept gifts better! lol!

((speaking of my dad, we moved to his hunting property after he died and I promise that several times I 'smelled' him and felt he was here. Heard his voice once. He was a heavy smoker, and I found a fresh cig. butt in the yard 6 months after he was gone. Talked to my sisters about it, they laughed at first and then said that would be weird. None of them have been here much since then. ))

Use Less 08/03/08 08:34 PM

I had a terrible certainty that if I drove out-of-state with my brother & sister to our grandmother's funeral, that we would be in a firey car crash, but that if I stayed home, they would be fine. It was so REAL, I stood in my back yard trembling for a long time. My sister didn't get it. I called my Dad, never expecting that he would so calmly agree I should act on my feeling and not go. Makes me wonder if sometime or other he had such an experience. Sue

Sabrina67 08/03/08 10:17 PM

SageLady, No kidding. When I was small we had a "evil presence" , for lack of a better word, in our upstairs. Even at a young age I knew it was bad. I had the worst dreams and would not go up there unless it was a last resort. Years later I said something to my mom. She admitted that she was afraid of the upstairs too, for the same reason. odd.

perennial 08/04/08 08:02 AM

Not sure if it's a premonition or a conincidence. The other night i couldn't sleep and was "walking" my porch. Heard a bobcat at the front of our property. The next morning when i told hubby he got a weird expression on his face and said he had a dream of one that was trying to attack us and he was fighting it and trying to shoot it. The windows were all shut that night with ac running and our bedroom is on the backside of the house so he couldn't have heard what i did.

brewswain 08/18/08 12:47 AM

I used to sleep like a rock.
It took a loud alarm to wake me.
One morning I woke up at 5:30.
Wide awake.
It wasnt long before my brother called.
Said he also woke up at 5:30 and heard our mom talking to her 24 hour nurse in the next bedroom.
Mom died in the middle of a sentence

greenacres 08/18/08 02:50 AM

I too get the "heebie jeebies" around people, or get vibes off them, or when something doesnt seem right and its get the heck out of there time. I have also had strong remembrances of my great grandmother, grannie and my pops. I smell certain smells that only they had....if that makes sense. The funny thing is that as i type this the hair on my arms is standing up!!!

mamajohnson 08/18/08 09:06 AM

Saturday was my birthday and my DH surprised me with a bought cake and ice cream. We were just standing around the kitchen doing "normal" stuff, I went and sat down at my desk and my 10 yr old DD came running in there and told me that she had dreamed it all. She said she dreamed every detail, even that she was wiping the cake cover with her hand.
She was sorta freaked out about it. I told her that happens sometimes, and her 16 year old brother told her it happens to him all the time.
That was the first time DS had said that around me.
I told them both that I called it Deja Vu and it happened to me all the time.

fellini123 08/18/08 10:29 AM

Ok, first of all I want to say I am a sceptic, big time. And no I dont get premonitions, normally. Only once, and it really has scared me. I figure it happened because it was such a BIG thing and lots of people involved. Dont think I am crazy because it really did happen just this way....

I was sleeping, and sometimes when the alarm goes off I let the radio keep playing cause I like to hear the news etc. I heard that a plane had just hit one of the twin towers. I thought "No that is wrong, it was 2 planes hitting both towers and they fell. And why are they reporting that now like it was new? I happened last night, it was on Dave Letterman."

Well of course it hadnt been on Letterman, and I must have dreamt it, but I knew what had happened about 15 minutes before it happened. When I heard about the first hit I got up and turned on TV. At this point still only one plane had hit, I kept saying "but it was two." And then the second one hit....But I knew it had happened, it was old news to me.

doglover 08/18/08 04:57 PM

yep, have had them all my life. Took me years to tell dh about it. He had great laughs about them until they started coming true. After a couple of years he began listening to me.I don't think its abnormal at all. Its something I think we all have, but its only the ones who examines their own souls that its strongest in. I have had them so bad that nausua envelopes my entire body. The worse they are to be the worse the nausua becomes. Do I like it? No, I wish it would leave all thre time.

mnn2501 08/18/08 05:06 PM

Shortly after being married my new bride and I were driving cross country, we stopped at a rest area and before getting out, I felt an evil presence and told my wife we had to leave right away and we did, I literally peeled away and got out of there quickly, the feeling was so strong, This was only about 100 miles from where we lived and we soon made it home safe and sound. We heard on the news a day or two later there was a car jacking in that area around the same time we were there and the people who were jacked were killed, my wife and I just stared at each other when we heard that.

My imagination? or a premonition? Who knows?

paintlady 08/18/08 10:28 PM

I get them in dreams, visions and really strong feelings. Over the years I have learned to listen to these. Sometimes they come in spurts of a couple of weeks with something happening almost every day. It used to drive me nuts and I would try to block the "feelings" of knowing what was going to happen before it did. Whatever you would call it, it seems to come and go on its own. I wish I had a dollar for every time I called someone only to have them tell me that they were JUST thinking of me. Weird.
One of the strangest things was when a close friend of ours was killed by a train. I was 8 months pregnant at the time. He had been over to our house in the afternoon and had shown us some ears of dented corn. He said he would be back later in the day. He never came back. Another friend of ours called that night to say that Bob's pickup had been hit by a train and he was killed. That night Bob came to me in a dream. He was bleeding from his TEMPLE. He told me to promise him to get my baby baptised. I asked him why and he kept saying " Just please promise me to get your baby baptised". After the third time of me asking him why and him saying the same thing I finally said " Okay Bob, I promise" and with that he was gone and I woke up. Everything was SO vivid in the dream. The next morning we went over to his house to see his wife. She told us that Bob had gone to a bar after he had left our house and as it had started to rain he had his window rolled up on his pickup. He had the radio on and must have never heard the train. The thing that really was odd was that it wasn't the train that killed him. He died from a blow to his TEMPLE from a hitch he had sitting on his dash. And yes.. I made sure to get my daughter baptised when she was born. That was 27 years ago and I still remember that dream like it was yesterday.
