We Made It To Oklahoma!!! Yippee!
We did it! We moved to Oklahoma, USA! :hobbyhors It is wonderful here!
we have our propane stove and our solar panels for our heat and our 40 acres of land for our goats to roam around on and our wonderfully perfect barn with a corral... you can't tell i am excited can you??? a big huge thank YOU to Crystal for all of your help getting us over here and putting up with my frantic calls during all of the ice storms and catastrophies I endured on the trek from Oregon to OK... apparently it was the coldest, snowiest, iciest, wettest (global warming aside) winter that most parts of the country had seen in years.. and of course it all hit during the 8 days of time that I decided to move my kid and 3 goats and 1 cat across the country! LOL our goats traveled pretty good in the back of the mini-van... we set up this great pen using a cattle panel and cutting it down to fit the height of the van and then bending it so that it was one solid piece, creating a 3 sided box. Then we tied a tarp so that they wouldn't pee down the sides and poured 2 bags of wood pellets to absorb moisture and put a bunch of hay down for bedding. We packed the space between the panel and the windows with hay for them to eat. It worked out great! Anyway just wanted to check in with y'all LOL and let you know that I made it here safely and we are loving the beginning of our homesteading life. take care, Misty |
Welcome to the midwest - yeah, ya did pick a tough time to move, but it sounds like you are prepared with the solar panels and propane stove. I'm sure if you need some local advice, someone here on HT will have it!!

Welcome to "fly over country".... I also offer a loud second to R.H.'s comment....Please leave the West coast mentality somewhere on the Western slope of the Rockies. S.E. corner of the state here.

Welcome to Oklahoma, Misty! Sounds like you got passed your initiation with the recent ice storm. :p I'm glad you made it down this way. You will love it here. I am in Coweta, where are you?
BTW, if you hauled your goats in the back of the minivan, you are all ready considered an Okie in my book! LOL :rotfl: |
Welcome to OKlahoma, I'm from the southern part of the state. You did pick a good time to move-right in the middle of an ice storm!

changing user names and west coast
Hi y'all LOL We ended up in Cherokee county, Tahlequah to be exact. I love the colors here, the golds and browns and the sunsets OMG they are incredible.
I know there is no ocean of water here, but the ocean is in my heart... there I will always feel the gentle spray of mist from the waves, so even though I am physically in Oklahoma and I love it here I am still oceanmist... I am going to change the location though LOL.. We can now add to our list of adventures that we've survived our first ever tornado warning! I never knew it could lightening for 12 hours without stopping! When the weather suddenly turned hot, 75 at 3 a.m., our pregnant goats started panting like dogs and developed a bit of a fever. So I spent Sat, Sun, Mon preventing pneumonia with penicillin shots... by Monday evening when this storm hit I was watching them very carefully and was thrilled to find that they were bedded down even during the loudest thunder  I heard that there were tornado cells developing all around Tahlequah and that was pretty scary.... and I am a person that likes storms! I guess just not knowing what would happen made me more nervous. So you guys have to explain what the west coast mentality is supposed to be? my family is convinced that I have always been an Okie at heart because I am so happy here... :) Is it just the slower pace of living? There are a lot of things different, but nothing that has made me uncomfortable yet. I am constantly hearing that people have family in Oregon and the folks back home all said... oh my uncle or cousin or someone lives over there in OK... LOL small world. Thanks for all the tips on the other groups, I'll be checking them out soon... take care, Misty |
You're certainly an adventuress! I hope it all works out well for you.

How cool! My parents just went and looked at Tahlequah this last weekend (at my behest) and they loved it...assuming everything goes OK...you may have another neighbor from HT soon. :D
I'll keep my fingers crossed. Congrats on your new place! |
glad you and the goats made it safe
|
Hehehe, gorgeous area but wait till it's 105 with 98% humidity...... I do love Tahlequah though, they have some wonderful things to see there - if you can stand to leave the air conditioning.....
|
And after you get your selves settled in, take a day trip over to Eureka Springs, it's about 2 hours, and pm me before you go and I'll tell you about some places to eat and visit. You picked a great place to live.
|
Welcome to Okla. by way of Tennessee! I used to live very near Tahlequah in Westville. I was born an raised in Adair Co. right next door. Now I'm in Tennessee and wishing I was ready to move back! Enjoy the area. They don't call it "Green Country" for nothing.By the way just up to the north a few miles is the Leach Hog Sale Barn. They do a lot goats there also. About the best market to find a few more for that 40 acres!
|
hope you find good neighbors around
And a good church if you are so inclined. Im in Creek Co. Near Slick. They call me Slick Willy
|
tahlequah's not too bad. the trees, small hills, and river are nice. i was there for a yr or so, went to NSU for a year. i'm a couple hrs away from you, just west of tulsa.
|
Lance's grandpa lives in Park Hill, just outside Tahlequah. On Carter's Landing Road, just a ston'es throw from the lake. It is indeed a beautiful place there!
