Which state(s) would you NEVER consider reloacting to?

(USA)

I live in Maine. I've always lived in Maine.

My list starts with California and Nevada and then any other state with poisonous snakes.

I visited my gram in CA and we went to Reno in 1991. I could not wait to get home! It was like a Mexican gang war going on.

Ravenlost 12/14/07 01:50 PM

I don't want to ever have to move again, so I'll say all of them except the one I'm living in...Mississippi (which I wish was Texas).

Bink 12/14/07 01:53 PM

Hm. Maybe Hawaii, because I imagine everything's expensive. I'm not sure there are any other states I would never consider, but there certainly are cities I wouldn't want to live in or near.

trixiwick 12/14/07 01:58 PM

Never say never, maybe, but I'm pretty fussy.

New Jersey seems like a no-brainer. :p I can't stand overly hot weather, so the South is out. I don't want to live anyplace where water is likely to be a problem, so that leaves out the West. I guess I'm left with the Northeast and the Midwest. I've been to Ohio and parts of Michigan and thought they were really ugly, but I didn't see very much of either state. Hawaii is too hot and Alaska, while beautiful, is too cold for chickens and too predator-risky for my tastes.

New Hampshire rocks, though!

Snowdancer 12/14/07 01:58 PM

KY, when I left it was for good and I'll never go back, just visiting gives me the heebie jeebies. :nono: :D The other place I don't think I'd enjoy calling home is AZ, although it's beautiful, it's just too hot and dry for my taste.

I loved living in CA but it got so expensive it just wasn't financially feasible to stay. :Bawling:

TiaD 12/14/07 01:59 PM

I learned to never say NEVER to an idea like that. Years ago, after having traveled to Seattle numerous times on business, I swore that I would never move there as it seemed to be always raining. Well, fate had other plans and 3 years ago, we ended up moving to the Seattle area when my husband was made a job offer that we just couldn't turn down.
Now, having said that, I have places that I would prefer not to move to, but won't say never, simply because as soon as a I do, Murphy's Law will get us transferred there!

California, Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam because they are way too expensive. Did live in CA for two years with the military (luckily we lived on base) and it was very expensive. Just got back from Guam visiting dd for 2 mos and it was expensive also. Those are very beautiful places, so if they lowered their prices for everything, I'd love to live there.

The industrial parts of Ohio are awful. Detroit is scary, but if you go further North in Michigan, into and around the small towns like Hillman or Adrian(?), the land is beautiful. Even the rocks are gorgeous.

Oh, have you ever seen a Petosky stone? I love all pretty rocks but Petosky stones are especially beautiful! Michigans agate beaches in thebnorthern part of the lower peninsula are always fun for any rockhound to visit.

Yes! I may even have one of those. The ones I liked best were the ones called "pudding stones". I think they had chunks of jasper or such in them. They looked polka-dotted. :)

I loved the beaches with all the smooth, egg-shaped stones and pebbles. That's one thing I don't much like about where I am. Our local rock is mainly sandstone.

connie in WV 12/14/07 02:36 PM

New Jersey- I would have to be committed if I had to listen to the accent.

California- Is that really part of the US?

radiofish 12/14/07 02:42 PM

I escaped from Michigan - I wanted out of the Detroit area so badly that I joined the US Marine Corps to get away.. Going back to visit my family is enough to be thankful that I live in North Western California along the ocean since 1982!!!

I would not want to live in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, or Texas. Hurricanes yearly plus hot and humid weather...

RedTartan 12/14/07 02:42 PM

I refuse to say. Murphy's Law is always biting me in the butt. The second I say that I will never do something/live somewhere, something will happen that will require me to do it.

It never fails.

You all better be careful.

Murphy's Law will get you!

You probably mean Hillman or Atlanta......that is real country up there, beautiful deer and elk country too!
I guess if I couldn't live here in NC or somewhere fairly warm year round...it would be around that part of Michigan.....but why does it have to be so cold up yonder!

michiganfarmer 12/14/07 02:50 PM

any place in the south, or any desert, or any of the new england coastal states, or caifornia.

I might move to New Hmpshire, or Alaska, but that is it.

Colorado would definitely be #1 on my list. Anything cooler than zone 5 on the grow chart, I would say would be right out and places with high mountains, regardless of where they are located.

Other than Missouri, my most favorite places to move to would be Louisiana, Coastal Texas and Florida (in that order).

bgraham 12/14/07 02:53 PM

Arizona, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, California, Texas, Florida and Arkansas.

No offense to anyone who lives in above states. :)

all of southern Michigan looks like an industrial area.
You need to see Grand Traverse county.

Wildwood Flower 12/14/07 03:02 PM

Circumstances always dictate, it seems.

My daughter lives in New Jersey now--her DH works in NYC.

And me, I'm in Oklahoma--my DH's family is here.

Anyway, I'd have both of these states on my "never" list--except for well, I'd even move to New Jersey to be closer to my grandson, and unless I want a divorce, I'm living here in Oklahoma for the duration.

Texas would be on my NOT list too.

My first choice is my home state of Oregon. My second choice would be Northern Virginia--Culpeper County. I also rather liked Montana at one time.

Cornhusker 12/14/07 03:05 PM

I would say California as #1, but I've never been there.
Just seems like the whole state is crazy.
I couldn't live in the deep south, the humidity would drive me bats, likewise most anythitng east of Iowa.
I like wide open spaces, so nothing with lots of trees.

Alpena! That's what I was thinking.
The cold in Michigan isn't so bad because they know how to dress for it and deal with it. If you're dressed for it, and you and the people around you know how to drive in it, it's pretty bearable.

pixelphotograph 12/14/07 03:16 PM

California, New York, and Massachusetts.

TheBiscuitQueen 12/14/07 03:22 PM

Florida, Louisiana- any gulf state where it is hotter than Hades AND humid, and which is a target for predictable and devistating storms. I will take a few snow storms which simply means you stay home from school or work. Snow also kills off most poisonous critters too. You can put on lots of layers, but there is only so much you can take off!

TedH71 12/14/07 03:38 PM

People are saying that Texas has hurricanes....not so. Not every year and it's usually only Houston and Galveston that is hit by hurricanes every now and then. DFW only gets the rain when a hurricane hits. As for tornadoes. I've lived there pretty much for 25 years and seen only 1 tornado and that was when I was a kid. Tornadoes are overrated. As for states with poisonous snakes...again, I've been in Texas my whole life and seen a rattle snake twice and both situations one was at a state park and the other one was at an ex's front lawn and it was a baby rattlesnake which was relocated. I've seen a water moccassin once. Really you do not see snakes that much because it's too hot for them to stay outside other than water snakes which look dangerous but aren't. Again I think it's people's overactive imaginations that get the better of them. As for hot weather, yep, we have it. Humidity? Not really. East Texas and Houston have humidity but not Austin and not San Antonio. People whine about the humidity in Austin/San Antonio are newcomers who don't know what they're whining about.

I'm currently in KS. Not too bad. Could use less cold air, lol.

Ardie/WI 12/14/07 03:40 PM

I was in Florida in July once. Oy vey and OMG! Never would I be able to live year around there but I'd love to visit in January.

Didn't care for the state of Washington either but I didn't see all parts of it either.

jen74145 12/14/07 03:43 PM

If I knew then what I know... I am counting the days till we leave this place. People, DO NOT move to NE Texas. DO NOT.

MaineFarmMom 12/14/07 03:48 PM

It's easier to list where I'd be willing to live. New England states with a coastline and New York. That's about it. I've seen half the country and lived in three southern states. I'm too wimpy to live where it's hot and where there are alligators and poisonous things that can kill me.

ArkansasLady 12/14/07 03:50 PM

I am NOT saying either..because my hubby is a pastor and JUST as sure as I said I wont ever live in so and so state, the Lord would laugh at me and send my husband to a church there...NOPE NOPE not saying, but there are a couple on my list that would probably require a in person visit from the Lord to convince me that the Lord was really saying to go there.....heheeh ROFL...

veme 12/14/07 03:55 PM

Massachusetts is the top of my list because of their gun laws.
I won't even visit my sister any more much less live there.

gunsmithgirl 12/14/07 03:58 PM

california-just because of the gun laws

Peacock 12/14/07 03:59 PM

Florida. Blech. And I now own two building lots there, go figure.

matt633 12/14/07 04:03 PM

Georgia and Alabama are the only states I would WANT to live in. I have lived my whole life in GA and just couldn't bear the thought of being too far from loved ones.

Now God moving me is a different story....I guess anything COULD happen!

My Sister and Bil live there in Alpena, that is a wonderful town too! I grew up in lower Michigan, use to love winter but being in in the south for 15 years.....it's just to cold for me anymore...lol

See, I don't make this stuff up. Listen to this lady and heed her advice. Ky. should be the last place you look when hunting land. It rains here. Do you have any idea how many people die in Ky.? Lots. Why take the risk. Oh yea, we use tp here also. Dry tp at that.

Heidi's_Goats 12/14/07 05:08 PM

Gotta say Florida. Lived in Georgia for 5 years, that was way to south.

daytrader 12/14/07 05:10 PM

Conetticut, I just hate the state. The folks are in way to big a hurry, the snow is 12 inches out side right now and the police are very un happy to folks.

Now, Florida is my second home. I love The Tampa/St. Pete/Clear Water area.

elliemaeg 12/14/07 05:13 PM

I live in the south and love it---all but the weather. I guess you could say I don't like AL, GA, MS, or LA due to weather. But I guess I will tough it out for about 35 more years.

simplefarmgirl 12/14/07 05:17 PM

Easy for me New Hampshire,,, always lived in NH cant see me ever leaving

Katrina26 12/14/07 05:19 PM

California, New York, Florida, and any other Southern States.
