I've lived in Ga, Fl, SC, Ca, Il, Ct, NY, and Va (coastal and now mountains). I never thought I'd want to leave Ga again, but I always said if I had to, I'd want to move to the mountains in Tn. Life moved in a direction I would have never predicted, and we've now moved to SW Va, and I absolutely love it here. At the moment, I could't imagine ever wanting to live anywhere but the spot I'm in right now, but I know from experience that life takes you places you never expect.

If I were to rule out anything, I suppose California, Mass, NJ, and Pa would be the top of the list.

LOL @ Radiofish! DH and I also "escaped" from Michigan several years ago. We had a 16-acre farm really close to town (SE MI), and were getting encroached upon. All my brothers and my sister live in MI, but I don't even like to go there for a visit. I'm plumb happy here in SC Missouri. Don't ever want to go anyplace else. One daughter keeps imploring me to move to *gasp* Florida! OMG! Couldn't do that - wa-a-a-ay too hot and humid ALL THE TIME.

Fla and CA--too many natural disasters. Hurricanes, wild fires, mud slids, sink holes, earthquakes...

I love my home state of Texas, and hope never again to have to move to any other state. States I would not live in--any of the northern, colder states, Florida, and California.

I've been everywhere literally and although all areas have their perks, I don't ever see myself living in the south. I love to visit, especially Alabama because of their down-home bars but ----, it is HOT there; it boarders on ungodly! However, there are few things better than sitting on the front porch on an Alabama night.

But my heart is where the snow lays. And I say, I believe there is nothing better than -10 degrees, on a calm crisp night, watching big snow flakes fall or the aurora pass over.

Pet peeve of mine - when people say "West Coast" and what they really mean is central/southern California.

Just for the record CALFORNIA is not the only state on the West Coast! There are two others that qualify as the "West Coast".

People are just really racist here, it's crazy. Also, my particular area is very unfriendly towards raising your own livestock (even though it's the birthplace of the Nat'l Farmers Union and has a giant monument to the fact, lol). It's very much ruled by the Good Ole Boys Club, and if you aren't a part of it/disagree with them in any way, they can and will ruin your life. They do not care about those less fortunate at all, to the point it is sickening. Add your daily dose of child and animal neglect with a liberal dollop of drug dealing and you've got yourself a great little place to set up shop.

Once in GC, I think it was a thread about racism, I harped a bit about my town... three people guessed it from the description alone and got to talking about the infamous banner that used to hang downtown and the sentiments behind it that still stand. Yeah, it's ugly here.

DH is *trying* to stick it out two more years with his company, then we are so gone. Arkansas is the current plan and I am so ready.
I think I live in the same area of N.E. Texas as you do. I happen to love my little town (which is next-door to the larger town you mentioned in your post.. yes, I recognize the description), and we suffer under no such biases... owning livestock is encouraged, every body is very friendly (and helpful), and overall, its probably one of the best places I've ever lived. I'm so sorry that your experiences have been so negative!

I have no interest in ever living in the New England states, any of them. Much too liberal thinking for my taste. The same goes for some of the Western states like California, and Colorado.

Yeah, but they don't want to live here either. It's wobbly, like CA, and muddy because it rains from November to May, and, um, land is spendy, yeah, this should be at the top of everyone's "no go" list
