Just in car accident...

I was fine, don't feel like i'm injured but now one eye has a blurred spot... seriously, its odd and distracting. Should I be concerned? Or maybe I am jsut going nuts :help: Should I get it checked out?

I've never been in an accident before. Scared the crap out of me. It was my right of way (My way is the strait way) and the guy didn't stop at his stop sign like he claimed or he wouldn't of been going so fast :nono: But since a car was parked along side the road right there I couldnt see if he was stopped there  I jsut know most people arnt going that fast from a compleate stop.

No I see a great big blurry spot in my vission and I didn't have this before. Don't know if it has anything to do with it.

trappmountain 11/27/07 03:22 PM

It may be nothing but I would have it checked just to be on the safe side. So glad you are safe

patnewmex 11/27/07 03:23 PM

I'm no doctor but if you have a detached retina, get it checked out PRONTO!

Definition
A retinal detachment occurs when the retina is pulled away from its normal position in the back of the eye. The retina sends visual images to the brain through the optic nerve. When detachment occurs, vision is blurred. A detached retina is a very serious problem that almost always causes blindness unless it is treated. (This can happen from severe trauma. Did you get a huge jolt in your car?)

I hope you got his insurance info in case you need surgery!!!

MaryNY 11/27/07 03:23 PM

I would get that checked out with an eye doctor (ophthalmologist not optometrist) or at least with your family doc ASAP. The collision may have caused part of your retina to detach. Also write down all that you remember right now, and all that happens for the next several weeks (like a diary) so that you will have it documented in case it is something really serious and you may have to consult an attorney. Don't sign anything without seeing an attorney. If you have any questions, PM me.

YES. It could be a detached retina, and they don't fix themselves.

Becca65 11/27/07 03:32 PM

My FIL had a detached retina, and he was seeing spots.. I would get it checked if i were you.

NickieL 11/27/07 03:32 PM

The guy didn't have insurance. He claimed he'd just bought the car and was on his way to some place to get insurance. Thanks, I'll get it checked out as soon as I can get a rental car. :Bawling:

MaryNY 11/27/07 03:35 PM

Get someone to take you somewhere -- today! Or at least call your doc and see if he thinks it can wait until morning!

MaryNY

NickieL 11/27/07 03:39 PM

I work at a hospital so on my lunch break I'm gonna see if they will take a quick look at me in ER or if I have to wait get my name on the waiting list. ER has been nutty lately.

MaryNY 11/27/07 03:43 PM

That sounds great! Good idea!! Try not to bend over or move your head around too much -- you may make it worse.

Good luck!

In this state, you can't do that. Sorry it happened that way, you may need to sue him. Depending. (I personally hate the idea that you may need to, but with no insurance you have few choices.) In our state it is against the law to not have insurance, even if you JUST bought the car. He is probably in violation of a few state laws.

Did you get his name, phone and license number?

Pat

Glad you work at a hospital. Tell them it may be a detached retina and they'll breeze you to the right person I'll bet.

If he WAS on his way to get insurance, the title should have just been signed and he should have had it on his person. That would have been a great way to see if he was lying or not.

Oggie 11/27/07 05:06 PM

I'm glad you weren't hurt worse. Be prepared to be sore in spots you wouldn't think were stressed during the accident. The body does strange things when bumped around at any speed.

Most states require that a driver have an insurance policy before a car is driven off the sales lot. There is also usually a grace period on insurance policies to transfer them to a different car after a trade in. The police report on the accident could be your best friend for gathering information.

If your insurance agent has to handle the claim, even if the other driver's insurance pays a settlement, it might cost you your deductible.

Good luck, sorry that you'll have to deal with all this.

Sher 11/27/07 05:16 PM

Wow..sorry you went through this..but like the others, I would have that checked out immediately. I am paranoid about anything related to my eyes..lol.

I too think he should have had insurance, in our state you have to have it before leaving the lot.

At least "talk" to a lawyer. If you have to have your eye worked on, it all adds up and shouldn't come out of your pocket if the other driver was in the wrong.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

AngieM2 11/27/07 07:15 PM

Have you had a chance to be seen by someone yet? Hope it's a mountain out of a mole hill, and not really serious.

And sic your insurance on the person, they will go after him/her even if they don't have insurance.

Hope you are okay.

Angie

Most auto policies have a "new car coverage" carryover.

That means that if you purchase a new car, both liability and Comp/coll are extended to the new car for 30 days following the purchase.

If he "tricked" you into believeing he had no insurance (and trust me, no dealer was letting him off the lot without proof of insurance, unless he paid in full), then
you willl have to make a claim through your uninsured motorist coverage.

If you have any of his info at all, give it to your insurance company. They are very good at finding folks that should be paying for things themselves. An attorney who specializes in Auto accidents should be able to help as well.

But get your eye checked regardless...no $$ is going to get your vision back.

NickieL 11/27/07 09:20 PM

The spots seemed to have gone away, maybe they had something to do with the headache I had. Headache and spots both went away with tylonal. as for him driving off the lot without insurance, the guy said he'd bought the car from a private person not a lot but still, I think it's against the law. The cop was questioning him as if he didn't believe the story. A cop arrived withen seconds of the crash, maybe he even witnessed it. In anycase he said I had the right of way. A nurse friend in the ER said I'd be feeling everything tomorrow most likely. Not looking foward to it.

NickieL 11/28/07 03:32 PM

Went to the dr today cause I was feelin' aweful when I woke up. I have a minor concussion and a cracked sternum. Neck is just sore. Yikes. Didn't think it was that bad. I hit the guy around 30 mph. Didn't feel nothing but a headache yesterday. Still have the headache today and aches and pains. I guess thats just how it goes.

Got the estimate on the car---- $3000 in body damage.

WindowOrMirror 11/28/07 03:33 PM

That is why it is a good idea to get checked out right away... every time.

Glad you are ok and sorry that you are gonna be sore.

I guess this means no winter backpacking for me any time soon !

Alice In TX/MO 11/28/07 05:23 PM

If you call your insurance company with the VIN of a car you just purchased, they will add it over the phone.

The guy is full of organic fertilizer.

Ravenlost 11/28/07 05:34 PM

I am so sorry! I hope you get to feeling better real soon and don't have a lot of hassle getting the guy to do the right thing.

Becca65 11/28/07 05:57 PM

Yikes Nickel glad you got checked out!! gosh you never know.

trappmountain 11/28/07 07:05 PM

I hope you called your insurance company. The guy that hit you should have to pay for this.

I have a very good company with full coverage. We've been with this company for many years.

Danaus29 11/28/07 08:06 PM

The bad thing about claiming it on your insurance is that your rates go up, even if your company never pays out or if they pay and then recover from the person who caused the accident.

I hope you get better soon.
