I also have this pattern I plan to make it in black and white = http://cgi.ebay.com/Pattern-4344-Chi...QQcmdZViewItem

kinda tuxedo'ish black background w/ white apron front. I think it'll be cute.. but white? hmmmm I'm messy lol maybe I should rethink that one! lol

I like to wear aprons for many reasons. When cooking or washing dishes of course. Hanging up laundry and collecting eggs I need the big pockets...they are just too handy. When butchering and painting a 'full" apron...of course. I don't wear one when gardening or canning though.

I love this pattern http://www.clotilde.com/detail.html?code=357061 . I think I can make it without buying the pattern which is good cause I won't spend that much for an apron pattern.

One I bought not too long ago might be perfect for Ardi who doesn't want it across the back of her neck and it also doesn't have ties. Its a wrap type and comes in two lengths. Simplicity 5201. Its a multi sized pattern S,M,L,XL.

I have a lot of aprons that I got at auctions in boxes of linens. One I found especially touching...its for a rather large lady, made from feed sack fabric and trimmed with rickrack. I'd guess 1940's. Its worn rather thin and has a couple of neat darns and a patch. I just know it could tell many stories of its adventures!

I also have several cross stitch gingham aprons made for me by my grandmothers as shower gifts when I married in 1960. Priceless to me. One of them has a patch from when it got caught in my old Maytag's wringer circa 1965.

I love my aprons! I wear them not only to keep my clothes clean but because they have pockets! I don't know if any of ya'll have pants or skirts that don't have pockets but I need them and nothing makes me madder than to realize that I don't have any in what ever I am wearing. I guess it isn't very "lady like" to need to carry around my pocket knife, a pen, a little note pad but I really have to have them with me. I just make mine from an old pattern, don't even know what kind it is but it is a full apron, (I'm like you Dana, got to cover the girls and I'm fluffy too!)

I love aprons ,, but I have to have the ones that look more like a dress, my favorite one is all open in back and ties with button at top back,, but slips on like a sleeves less dress, if it was sewn up the back it would be a dress, I made it extra full and plenty of room for my towel to hang on side,I have ruined alot of shirts and dresses by not wearing it. I got the pattern of a Mcalls pattern for prarie dress.

Cloverangel thanks for posting this and the pics. I used to wear aprons a lot and just got out of the habit. I need to resume as I'm really doing a number on my shirts.

Found this....while searching for apron sewing ideas....darn you Dana.

http://kleas.typepad.com/kleas/2007/...ng_up_a_t.html simple, neat and cute, but doesn't cover my front where I make the biggest messes. Ths WOULD be great for outdoor work though.

Bad Dana! Bad Dana! I just ordered a Park Designs apron online. (Sewing is definitely not my thing). Told DH... Now he's expecting apple pies on a daily basis. As if I don't feed him enough already...

That's a nice one Ark. That would cover very well AND it has nice big pockets!

I wear aprons while cooking if it's a large or complicated meal, mostly to wipe my wet hands on! (I try to clean up as I go along.) DBF just slings a dish towel over his shoulder, but I don't like to do that because of my long hair!

My mother made me a wonderful apron. It's got what I call "laundry line" cotton string that goes through it (goes over your neck and is in the "under your arm" seam and ties in back so is totally adjustable) and is super easy to make. I'll see if I can get a photo of it.
